  • dont see my name there yet... matty?
  • I just quickly glanced over the site just now as well - more information about the different prizes and what's in the gift bags worth $300 - is it like some gift cards?.

Also wanted to ask about the length of the levels - I see the blind structure and can probably guess that it's 20 min. levels, but I just want to make sure.

Good luck in the final stages of planning - hopefully it's a huge success

when I get the cheque for $75US, then I will be convinced; if they can pull off a tournament at the Liberty Grand, I will be very impressed. Not sure how they are generating enough revenue to pay for all of this? we deposit $25, earn the required points and they pay us $75US. How much is Mansion, etc. paying them to generate 20 Mansion points even with the $75US to us? I don't understand their business model and how they are pulling this off. Not unless someone has fronted a load of cash to see if this concept may work. Kind of reminds me of the Great Canadian Poker Challenge but their business model included a TV deal to help generate the needed revenue. I will have a trip report on the Liberty tournament next week.

Mansion has one of the most generous affiliate programs. You get paid $100usd per poker signup + you earn off their rake. So assuming they acheive their 500 player target, thats $12,500 in revenue. Additional revenue will be through the $50 addon and probably food. Overhead looks like the venue, dealing staff (if there are any), $10k buyin. Hopefully theres money for charity left behind.

I still would like to know what the top 50 prizes will be though before I come down and buyin though. Also if there will be a cash option for the trip instead.

my opinion is that Mansion is a sinking ship; you can't even multi-table on this site as they only have one table going usually at each level; no SnGs unless you wait a couple of hours for one to fill up. I would expect 1deal wants to make a decent profit and not just break even from these events. As they have less than 100 people signed up with a week to go, not sure how they are making a profit at this point. I would expect the Liberty Grand is very expensive, not unless they have donated the room since it is a charity event. I hope their concept does well but I wonder about their business plan to ensure they make a profit. It seems very professionally run and well supported.
  • I leave for one day and you guys start gossiping like women at the shopping mall, hahah
Ok we have the top 50 prizes, we just need to put them in order so that will be by the end of the week
If you need verification for an account please message me directly or message me on 1deal.ca
As far as our business model goes, we pay you to play poker, why ask questions why??? enjoy it while it last fellas
  • looking forward to the tournament! should be a fun night at a great venue.

I guess we have to pay our way into the CNE as well?

    Answer please?

You don't need to pay to enter Liberty Grand (during the CNE). Go to their site for directions. I think if you want to play poker at the CNE charity casino, you will have to pay entry.
  • I was just at the CNE Casino and it didn't cost anything to get in. I say carpool to the tournament guys or take a cab if you live close. Parking will be i think $9. So save money and car pool!!

Thanx for the info. I assumed since it's on the CNE grounds that we'd have to pay. Depending on how my day goes I'm probably going straight from work so I may hit up the casino before.

Here is the info just sent to me by the Liberty Grand:

    Hi there!

The Liberty Grand is accessible this year without having to enter through the CNE gates to the fair therefore admission is not required.

    Parking is $9 flat rate.

    I hope that helps.

Have fun at the poker tournament!

  • Hi Matt, so for those who entered this tournament through 1deal, do they already have our names and info at Liberty Grand? Do we still have to go there and register or just show up at 7pm?
  • uh.....Matty. I'm out of the country during the new scheduled time. Can I have my gift bag and reimbursement cheque now?

    Dear Member,

We highly value the endless stream of support and enthusiasm you have provided for the "All in for the Cure" $100,000 Free Charity Poker Tournament being held at the Liberty Grand in Toronto. Our staff has been working hard to ensure that every member who signs up wishing to be admitted into the tournament receives a guaranteed seat.

It is to our dismay and disbelief that the "All in for the Cure" $100,000 Free Charity Poker Tournament has been postponed. Due to endorsement issues involving the other contributors, the tournament has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2007.

"All in for the Cure" was approached by the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) and told that since the tournament is being held at a licensed establishment, for the event to be run legally, our representing charities must possess gaming licenses. Regrettably, one of the charities involved does not possess such a license. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to alter this unwanted change in events.

If "All in for the Cure" was to choose to disregard the AGCO's advice and run the Tournament anyway, we could be fined a total of $30,000.00 CAD. As a non-profit organization, we can not afford to take such a risk. The Ontario Government's response to a charitable event meant to raise thousands of dollars for children in need is discouraging. We have been speaking to our lawyers, and will be doing everything in our power to change this outrageous government restriction. "All in for the Cure" finds this delay extremely disappointing.

A strong sponsor of the Tournament, 1Deal.ca, views this postponement as only a minor setback. They have agreed to take over the event. Due to the large amount of people who have already signed up, 1Deal.ca will run the event as a member appreciation Tournament, and re-entry will not be required. Please take note that this will be a members-only event, and tickets will no longer be sold.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We understand that a change in schedule is never an easy thing to deal with, and we have changed the tournament day to a Sunday in hopes that everyone will find this a more convenient day to be able to attend. Any member who has been admitted into the tournament previous to the announcement of the new date and time, and is unable to attend, will be granted a seat at any future event.

Members who have been admitted into the Tournament by completing a deal through 1Deal.ca will now receive their reimbursement cheques in the mail.

"1Deal.ca sees this delay as a blessing in disguise. Now the 1Deal.ca staff has more time to make the 'All in for the Cure' $100,000 Free Charity Poker Tournament being held being held on September 23, 2007 even bigger and better! A representative from 1Deal.ca will be calling you within the next few days to confirm you received this email, and accommodate any requests/suggestions or questions you may have." - Matty Kies, 1Deal.ca VP of Marketing

At "All in for the Cure" we work hard to raise money for people in need, and we are going to work just as hard to provide our members with satisfying alternatives despite this undesirable turn of events.

    Thank you for your cooperation,

  • I got no email stating this. However if it is moved there is a good chance I can't play either. I was calling bullshit from the start and I guess bullshit arrived. GL Matty you had done a lot to gain some credibility, but this certainly will bite ya in the ass.
  • lets see what happens; they had reserved the room so I think they had full intentions of holding the tournament as planned; lets see what happens in September. Hopefully the cheques will arrived as promised.
  • -ev wrote: »
With all due respect Matt, this is total bullshit. The story seems to change every other day. I have zero faith that this will go off anything close to how you have billed it so far.
Ok, so never mind about the respect part.
  • Thanks for posting that TiMSuM....

I'm so happy that they decided to not inform me, and I had to find out here

    (yeah right...)

    Oh, that is so brutal!

I think these guys got in over their heads but to go and recruit someone to lend credibility then not even tell him when they get shut down is totally classless. Burn in hell, Matty.
  • Well I'm going to reserve judgement for the moment. While not telling Al in advance of sending out the email or posting it on their website is a rather large error in judgement this hardly seems to be Matty's fault. As I understand it Matty is part of 1Deal which is just partnering in some way with the Charity to gain them players. The postponement, (perhaps also to gain additional players) is hardly earth shattering, after all it's not a cancellation. I know nothing of the details or reasoning behind the changes but we have hardly invested any money out of our own pockets. Up to this point 1Deal has come through with the cheques as promised and the 1st tournament was held as scheduled, albeit with some flaws, but other than perhaps being a little more upfront dealing with Al, what's the big issue?
  • Matty, when will the cheques be mailed? If anyone receives their cheque, please let us know.
  • Holy CRAP! You are one trusting person. Perhaps I am just too cynical.

They used Al then burned him. How would you feel in his shoes right now?

Listen son, I'm not all that trusting, I've just learned through a few life experiences that you really don't get very far by constantly slamming people. I like and respect Al, so how about if we let him handle his own arrangements. If he asks us for support and assistance, I'll be there but until then he's a big boy.

So who are you anyways -ev, have you played with any of the regulars on here? Anyone here know him? Al, do you know him?
  • compuease wrote: »

I tend to agree with you. I tried to get some information earlier on to establish the credibility of this event and its organizers, as I had considered putting in the time and effort to qualify for the event and get the time off to attend. How many of my concerns were addressed:
    -ev wrote: »
Things that still give me cause for concern:

1/ $300 'value' gift bags. Are these things like gift certificates or discounts for crap I don't want? I don't really value these much.
2/ Website says 100k, here it says 50k. So far I see a 10k tournament entry and a trip worth maybe 3-4k. Has the rest actually been determined? Or are you putting a value of 100-200 on each gift bag?
3/ You are quick to banty around 'charity' almost as a reason to stifle questions. Please specify how much is actually going to the charity. I'm all for raising funds for charity but I'd like to be reassured it isn't a token 1k when your walk-ins and add-ons will net you far more.
4/ You've specified the blinds for the first hour (I'm assuming 20 minute levels) of a 7 hour event. Please tell us more.

You are getting so close to the cutoff date where people would have to start their 'challenge' in order to qualify but it seems many things are still up in the air. You have not yet convinced me this is worth the bother. It sounds a bit 'fly by night' or 'seat of your pants'.

I see this as about a 1 in 100 crapshoot for me to win a 'freeeeee' entry to WPT (for $50) and a 1 in 100 chance for me to win my own murder that the locals will call an accident (which you might not mind too much right now). Even from that perspective, it is not a terrible deal (the WPT part) but you've really blown your credibility in my eyes. Far too much misleading and incomplete info and late changes.
1/ It appears the gift bags are coupons and tickets to stuff I don't care about. Fine at least that is sort of clear and I know what value to put on them.
2/ Still no details about prizes other than 1st and 2nd. Fairly significant as any serious player needs to factor this in.
3/ No details about how much actually goes to charity. I really don't know how much people weigh the 'charity' factor in how they view this event so perhaps no big deal. If they had said 100% of the money after paying for the hall and the dealers goes to the charity, I'd be inclined to give them a huge amount of slack for some of these miscues.
4/ I believe the levels have been fully documented. So people are able to evaluate the skill level, patience factor,... of the tourney.

My other posts focused on the fact that the tourney was changing day-by-day. This has held true to form. This is huge and says a lot about the credibility of the event, how well it is organized and supported by donors. I do believe this sort of stuff hurts the legitimate ventures out there as they get painted with the same brush.
    -ev wrote: »
I hope the event goes well and I hope the good folks here that attend feel like they got good value for their efforts.
    -ev wrote: »
Pull it off successfully and you will definitely get lots out to the next event.
  • Fellas Ive been on the phone for the past day with lawyers, unfortunetly it did not help. I am very sorry for the inconvience and realize most of you people will not come down, and for that I am really sorry. But we are sending all of your cheques out today so hopefully they get to you soon.
If you think this is a scam, so be it but we lost quite a bit of money in this delay not to mention time and effort. The government involvement in our tournament is completely asinine, we were hoping to give over 15K to charities and they still shut it down.
Anyways for those of you with some compassion I figured i would say thanks for sticking by us and for those of you with the snippy comments let me know the next tourney you'll be at :)
Compuease- I appreciate your patients and rational thinking, I guess it will be a couple of years before the young guys think before they write.
