That method is painfully slow. Pretty much unusable.
Not at all....although the typing can be somewhat tedious but once favourites are set there iis little typing. Navigating is perfect and quick. My system may be dfferent mind you.
Well, I've got the house to myself for the weekend so I'm going to get this thing working or shoot myself. Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse arrived yesterday. A little larger than I expected. Not sure how that's going to go over sitting on the coffee table, but for the weekend..... Who cares!:D
More likely its the naming conventions than the file format. For best results make sure everything has the show name and a "SxxExx" in the file name, for example "Game.of.Thrones.S02E14.mkv"
I posted somewhere in here about the files view versus the metadata view. Try using the files view, it should pick up everything regardless of naming or folder structure. If it works for you, you can save the files view for your TV / Movies / etc folders individually as favorites, and then link to them from the home screen replacing the built in ones.
UbetIfold, did you try anything Bfillmaff mentioned here and did it work?
I had to read the "SxxExx" part a few times until I got what he meant. I thought he was trying to be tricky and make us look up porn on this thing or something.:)
I haven't had a chance yet to check it out. I've also been messing around trying to set up the live tv function with the pvr thing. Anyone have any success Withthat?
Wow, ok so having a keyboard with a track pad has made a world of difference. Finally been able to watch some of the videos from the hard drive on my PC. Streamed a few things which was lovely. One thing I'll say about this box is that the audio from my AVR sounds better than it ever has before. I'm sure this thing has some setting on it somewhere that's achieved this somehow.
Trying to figure out skins, downloading apps, customizing front page, etc. I'm sure if I had a clue as to how to use android devices properly the learning curve wouldn't be as steep as it seems. Nice to finally be getting somewhere with this thing! Never did hear back from Matricom about my crapped out remote.
I know I've dl'd netflix, MX player (which it now appears I don't need for some reason since my stuff on my PC miraculously showed up on my screen today, although I just checked and not all of them are showing up. Have to check which view setting I'm using. I think Bfillmaff mentioned something about that.). I swear I can't find the apps anywhere. I tried what moose suggested (home screen, edit rows, orange circle icon, etc.) but apps aren't showing up.
Pretty sure I should just go back about 10 pages in this thread and read everything over again a few times.
I was able to get the forum up on my TV using the browser which was kind of interesting!
Looking forward to seeing what game apps are out there. Once I figure out Apps.
So, I've got the ez advanced settings add on installed. (Have to be a little careful in here as the track pad seems to like to click on things when you drag your cursor over them without clicking a button.) Glad there's no "FORMAT ALL WITH NO CONFIRMATION" button.
Regarding the buffer, the change you made to 200Mb was on the Gbox right? Just wanted to make sure before I screwed something up. One thing that was interesting was somehow on here I was able to view the load being put on the CPU and memory on this thing. It was showing 20% CPU load and 40% memory load, in spite of the fact that I wasn't actually doing anything like watching video, etc.
I assume we can disregard all of the discussion about creating the xml files and what not as that would pertain to someone using kodi on a PC Correct? As well, did you alter your buffer mode to allow it to buffer for all content? (internet, PC, etc.)
Not sure why, but it seems when I try to do certain things like use the EZ advanced setting addon, etc. I get an error message saying "script failed-EZ advanced settings" I've noticed this come up a few times and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here.
I know nothing other than what those two links told me. I used the exact settings in example 4 with the larger cache.
Even with my slow internet (<5 mbps) 90% of everything streams fine, using wifi only. If it doesn't stream fine, usually backing up and streaming a different source, solves the problem.
One thing I find pretty funny is when you go to the KODI forum looking for info about the script failed thing, the mods on there say that they cannot comment on any addons or information that would allow users to access copy written materials.
Isn't that pretty much what most of the people using kodi are doing for the most part? They're pretty serious about it too from the looks of things.
You mention 1channel or icefilms and they suggest that could warrant an instaban. Obviously they have to distance themselves from the whole thing, but let's get real.
Somebody else can probably describe it better than me. A cache is like a temporary holding area for data so that it can be released at a more fluid rate, rather than simply relying on the streaming to be continuous. Hope that makes sense.
Basically, it's a buffer. You clear the cache to allow new data to be placed there.
Moose and Ubetifold.. Get a wireless keyboard with a trackpad. That's all I can say.
You'll throw the remote in the garbage.
You want to take a pic of yours? Or was it the ones we were linking to previously ITT?
And I definitely will be getting one, I had a spare wireless keyboard and mouse I've been using until I get the hang of it. Once that's done I will be getting a better remote for it.

I got the Logitech K400 off Amazon.ca then I realized it was actually cheaper at Staples. It's not exactly tiny, but it'll be living in my office unless I'm using it so that's not a concern. Trackpad works very well other than the odd phantom click.
I swear it made using the Gbox a dream. I had PFC up on the big screen for a while! I bet I could even ban people from the comfort of my couch!
You have it pretty well right... cept usually there is no need to clear the cache as it is treated pretty well as "stale data", ie new data in replaces the oldest data there. In this case it is to assist in buffering or prevent pauses in the playing of video, so very similar to the computing use. Although for a computer the software is predicting what is coming next to avoid the processor having to wait for data. ie lookahead cache.

I like the size of this Along with the keyboard functions, hopefully the mouse functions well.... it's probably between this one and a rii mini i8 I believe it is.
I seen the rii one at a flea market and tested it out briefly and seemed to work pretty good. Wasn't too big.
Man, I definitely have to increase the cache size on this thing. Just tried to watch Walking Dead and it hung up continuously. Any thoughts on what the max size can be without having any detrimental effects? Not sure what they could be.

I'm guessing the problem isn't your cache. Every now and then things just hang up and I think its on the streaming site's end. I usually just pause it for a full minute or two and it's fine.
Hmm, maybe that's it. Last night I set the cache size to 200Mb like Moose suggested. Went to watch a little half hr show in HD (720p, Dolby 5.1). Thing ran for about a minute then said 'cache is full' and paused while it filled the cache again. Minute later did the same thing. Maybe I'll just make the cache huge and see what happens.
edit: Streaming the show in standard def, AAC2.0 did seem to work last night, but I'd rather not do that.

Yeah, paused then the little "buffering 1%" window came up at the top of the screen. The buffering % did increase to a higher point since I increased the cache size, but was still pausing within short order. After I change the cache size, etc. from that youtube video I did make sure to reboot to ensure the changes were actually made.
Other than a few little hiccups like this, I'm really liking this thing and my wife has totally figured out the interface to the point I'm rarely having to come to the rescue.

Hey, don't leave me alone here!

It was very watchable. Not pure HD, but it was good quality. No buffering, live streamed so commercials and all. Was happy with the results.
And what exactly is this 'cache' thing all about. What does it do, why does it need to be cleared etc?

COMP! Get in here and explain this better than I.

I've been looking at this one most recently. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00O1V695Y/ref=s9_simh_gw_d0_g107_i9?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=mobile-1&pf_rd_r=0W7G6VJKFWAQ5E487N14&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1887033422&pf_rd_i=mobile, if I'm reading correctly the mouse function is suppose to work like that of a wii remote.

I might make a decision on one today.

Woody has left the building and all links pulled. This is what I've read elsewhere.
