Just a reminder that magithighs (Lou) will be making his Poker Night Live debut tonight. I believe he will be doing 4 segments in the first hour, so he will be on between 11pm and midnight, and will repeat tomorrow between noon and 1:00.
Thanks everyone! Tina and Devo made it very easy for me -- it's amazing how they can think on their feet and understand what I'm thinking. They brought out much of what I was talking about. Hopefully the disagreements (genuine I might add) between Devo and myself added a new twist to the show in terms of entertainment and information.
Also, it was really neat to have g-didi on the sit-n-go. Hopefully we weren't too hard on you!
Tex, I don't think we can promote the gambling aspect, but I believe if you PM g-didi, she can help you get into the game.
Also, like Devo and the rest of the crew we're always looking for suggestions -- fire away!
Lou (to me, on the subject of tracking results/Pokertracker/databases, etc.): "OK, well, obviously you don't track your results."
Me (emphatically): "I track my results in my BANK account!"
Haha. What a cocky, smarmy thing to say. If we weren't on-air, I would have added "BITCH" to the end of that statement. Too funny.
Very nice job Lou. Tina was fantastic, as always, and I think that the disagreements between us highlighted the differences between tight aggressive and loose aggressive players. Nicely done.
Also, it was really neat to have g-didi on the sit-n-go. Hopefully we weren't too hard on you!
Not at all ! I genuinely appreciate the feedback/criticism of my play.Â
It has helped my play a lot, mostly with plugging leaks
(although it might not look like it some nights..lol)
Great Job Lou,
I had no doubt that you would do well. Our practice run went very smoothly and you seem very comfortable with the format. I look forward to doing a show with you. Im not sure when it will be, but I am sure that it will be soon (But I'm not in next Thursday - my only day off next week).

Last night was great, with all the little pot-shots they'd take at eachother, one of the best episodes yet, though I failed to make it on air.. aside from the one time I actually made it, I've been doing well in the TV tables..
Here's what one single appearance on PNL did for me though.. early this week, sunday night maybe, I was on as thathoser. When i watched myself the next morning on the re-run, I wondered what the hell I was doing, Devo was right suggesting that it looked like I had just started, and it pointed out to me in a way that could not be clearer how important it is for me not to play when I'm in a pissy mood.. it wasn't a good day for me, and it reflected in my play in ways taht I couldnt' imagine. hopefully, when I'm on again, I can redeem myself and with the time I'll have off work, maybe become a regular on the show
Loved last night's programme guys Johnny T vs Devin ........... the Metrosexual vs the Retrosexual
Thanks for watching Deb. Â Tonight should be fun too... me, Tina, and Lou (magithighs).
BTW, I've never heard the term "retrosexual" before, so I looked it up using the good old internet:
"Genuine guys are sometimes known as retrosexuals, to distinguish them from metrosexuals, who are men with the good taste of gay men, only they're straight. Metrosexuals are scrupulous about their grooming and are great consumers of men's cosmetic products. They use hair gel. Retrosexuals are scared of hair gel. Some people think that retrosexuals automatically have Neanderthal views about women, but this is not the case. A retrosexual is simply someone who doesn't know the difference between teal and aqua, and frankly couldn't give a damn."
So far, so good. Â Although I have no hair to gel, I think I get the gist.
"Also, there's another sense of the word that refers to a person who hasn't had sex in a long time."

Whenever people can take criticism about their play in an objective, thought-provoking way, I personally feel that they have a good shot at becoming a great player. Keep at it.
omg last night was hillarious. I seriously don't get what John was thinking. I have gone multiple SNG's in a row without getting pocket 10s or higher, you simply cannot wait for Premium hands to take on players like Carlos. Also say you do get bullets, whos to say he'll decide to push that hand with his q3 off. What you were saying Devo is exactly right. KJ is good enough, even tough you might need to worry about the ace. He seemed to be pushing with any two cards, and i'm not sure if John knows his odds but two over vs two unders is generally a 2:1 scenario... Same would happen with JJ vs Q3...
What i don't get is Johnny's view on changing up your play. I have no idea what where he was coming from when he said he didn't like changing his play according to different players cause he thought it was weakening him somehow... From all the poker i've watched, played and books i've read, that is exactly what you are supposed to do... Change your play based on your opponents... Gather info, find out if your specific opponents bluff alot, are call stations etc. For the most part the players of last night's SNG knew Carlos was a station and played accordingly but just continuously got sucked out... That's why it made me extra happy when Carlos finally lost with AK vs AJ. The poker gods could never be that cruel Although sometimes I wonder...
Question: I know it's been asked before, probably by me but i'm too lazy to search trough 8 pages , any chance of some limit cash games? Been thinking about moving into those... but I don't have much experience at all really.
I am glad to hear that the Devo vs Johnny T show got a reaction out of some of you. I will however take this opportunity to respond to Mr Chris Windsors comments.
The point I was trying to make is this...When confronting a player like Carlos, I prefer not to change my play FOR THE WORSE. And yes, this means NOT calling an all in with KJ. It is not a 2:1 favorite against any two cards. For example, KJ vs 76(offsuit) is only a 3:2 favorite (62%). A7 vs 98 (suited) only a 52% favorite. Even AQ vs 93 is only a 68% favorite, although I would be more inclined to call in this situation depending on a number of other variables. I will not change my play based on the assumption that my opponent is bad. All that this will do is make my play bad. I will however ADAPT to changes on the table only to improve my chances, not worsen them. Against very loose opponents (like Carlos) this will often mean TIGHTENING my play... and vice versa against very tight opponents. Under most circumstances I will not call an all in with KJ. Hands like JJ QQ AK have the highest winning rate against random cards and players who like to play them. Why not be patient and wait for a bettet hand if your stack will allow you?
Johnny T
AAa there we go. I didn't know your online name Johnny. Although i don't know why i didn't just assume it was omega seeing as you created this thread, and Devo is All_Aces.
First off let me say I hate you. My last name is WINSOR NO D! Sorry but that has frustrated me to no end my entire life.
Yes, i overgeneralised the types of hands where you are a 2:1 favourite, my mistake.
I still don't understand how you see changing your game according to a call station as "For The Worse" I understand where you are coming from, it does make sense to tighten up against a loose player, but at the same time you could sit there waiting for those premium hands and either a) never get them, or b) get them to have him fold before you, or fold to your raise.
If you know he's a calling station, especially with pretty cards (suited jacks or queens) why not make the all in call/move with ace rag, KJ or KQ when you are sure you're in a 3:2 situation. I thought the whole idea behind long term winning at poker was get all your money in the pot before the flop with the best hand. Even if it's pocket 2s vs AK, you'll still end up winning money in the long run. In that specific SNG, Carlos got lucky and finished 2nd, but over time all those cards he caught to come from behind in that SNG won't be there for him in the futur, and those other players who went all in with Ace rag and KoJack will end up winning.
My mistake...no D,
Sorry about that.
Also sorry to hear that you hate me.
That's very kind of you.
Anyway,
I understand your point of view, but I would rather play another way. I wouldn't normally call an all in in the early-middle stages of a tournament with a less than premium hand. Pushing all in is another matter, if the right opportunity arises. In the sit and go with Carlos, a player with QQ folded on a big bet in the early going. Carlos would have very likely been knocked out (He had k5 and the flopp was 544). That player had the only really good opportunity to knock him out in the early going and he made too tight a fold. Many of the other hands (A-rag, KJ, K10) that were up against Carlos were not big favorites and in the long run should not be calling hands, especially at an aggressive table with a player who will in all likelyhood push all in. Much of the time it will be a coin toss or he may even be slightly favored with an Ace rag. If you don't get the premium cards there are still other ways to stay ahead. 1. Avoid Carlos until you have a premium hand - if it doesn't come, take advantage when Carlos isn't in the hand and you get a playable hand. An important element in a sit and go is to last. Until the blinds become threatening there is no reason to get into high risk situations.. For myself I would rather look for situations where I feel confident that I am in the lead against an unpredictable, wild player. If I lose, I lose. In the long run, this will be and has been profitable...for me. The cards or the position or the opportunity will come eventually.
Johnny T
Hmm, again I understand your logic, but I still think i'm gonna play the way Devo was talking about. Yes you must be wary of Ace rag when you're considering pushing with a KQ, but Carlos was pushing, calling all ins with some horrible hands and if I can get my money in pre flop with a 55%-45% advantage i'm gonna take it every time, even though against players like Carlos your probably morel ike a 60-40.
Off topic:
Something I was thinking about after playing some low buy in SNGs. It seems that often times I can limp in in early position with pretty drawing hands, i.e low/midle suited connectors and sort of "stet the tone" and have alot of people limp after me isntead of perhaps raising. MAbye because they're afraid someone limped with a monster or the fish limp with horrible hands thinking they can see a free flop. What do you think of this?
anyone know where I can download the episode from july 28th? apparently i was on it, but I was out and didn't catch it. apparently, my brother said there weren't many negative comments, but I was put in a bunch of marginal situations, so I'd really like to hear what devo had to say about my play..
With regard to limping in with suited connectors,
I do it from time to time but feel it is much wiser to do this from late position. I don't like being the one to initiate the "domino" effect because often, depending on the table, players in late position will pick up on it and just apply pressure with a large raise (which is smart thing to do if you have a good hand). If, however you are last or second last to act and you see several callers and you are sitting on 56 suited, I would limp in or even come in for a small raise to be sure that I get position on the hand. Doing this from early position can be difficult and costly in the long run.
Johnny T
I realize you've seen alot of them, but if you haven't played in one, you might not realize as much but, alot of your advice about waiting really doesn't apply to a tournament where the blinds DOUBLE every 10 hands, you don't usually have time to wait around.
If the blinds aren't threatening your stack (and there are varying degrees of that, i mean you only START with 50 BB's) already, they will be damn soon. Prima sit n' gos are pretty crapshoot-ish and when you are against a crazy player, you gotta take the edge when you get it, you cant wait for 4 to 1 or 3 to 1 edge situations.
To G-didi, why didn't you push all in with AJ 3 handed when calling commited half/more of your stack?
I gotta think about that one...
I've probably played close to 100 sng's this past week,
so gimme a bit of time to try and remember and i'll get back to ya.
thought about it.... and I dont have an answer...lol.
I dont remember the specific sng,
and I cant think of any good reason why
i wouldnt push all my chips in. Â
fatigue? brain fart?
I think i'm going to retire from PNL...or atleast take a break.
That game last night put me over the edge.
Prima's server has cost me over $100 this week in lost profit.
Froze up on me during two $20 sng's when i had a big chip lead.
Going to cash out most of it and use it to play some live tournaments.
The $2,$5,$10 PNL sng's arent exactly hurting my bankroll,
but losing because of servers that need to be upgraded suxx a$$.
Ya forgot to post this yeserday, I think it was the 30th's episode with Johnny and what'shername french lady...
Johnny how could you sit there and let her tell you "she doesn't believe in implied odds or pot odds"
I cannot believe this person is a "proffessional" and doesn't believe in either of those odds, especially pot odds.
The hand was 610, bet more than 2/3 of his stack, and had something like 3-4 people and the small or bb fold. Hit midle pair on the flop, and didnt call the remaining chips when someone put them all in. The person had top pair. If I remember correctly the 610 had a back door flush draw, and was around a 4:1 underdog peraps a little bit better. The pot was giving him over 5:1 possibly up to 6.5:1. There were something like 5-6 people left in the SNG, so folding to make the cut off wasn't a plausible reason for folding.
Ahh I remember, her name is Audrey. Anyways, she says that's a good lay down, if you're behind you should fold. Later on she said the player had no outs... um excuse me? 3 tens and 2 sixes=5 outs. Plus back door flush. So ya.. your thoughts Johnny or Devo?
Oh and I loved her comment "that's a pretty draw" Johnny: "Wait, what? Inside straight draw?" Board : AK#
To Crazy Joe,
I have played and do play on the Prima Sites (This does not mean I am promoting or recommending the site). My advice for those sit no goes stands. I find that waiting for at least the third round (If you don't get some premium hands) to get active works to my benefit. There will be, most of the time, a couple of hands that you can get that are worth playing. Recently I watched a sitngo where Monkiboy played only TWO hands and found himself in the top three, and eventually finished second. Because it is only 8 handed, and there are always at least a few very loose players, patience is an effective strategy for the early going. Of course we all play differently but I was a profitble player on that particular site. It won't work all the time but as a long term stategy I think it is the most effective, especially for new players.
To Chris Winsor,
I do remember taking issue with Audrey regarding the 6/10 hand. In fact much of the entire hour was me saying that I would have pushed in that position and I did mention the 'outs'. For some of the shows however I am a"Host" and not an "Expert" so that I will limit how much I will disagree with Audrey or Devo. But in the example you are mentioning, I think that I made my point on more than one occassion and then agreed to disagree. That player, incidently, after folding 6/10 had a very short stack but came back to finish second.
Johnny T
I agree that patience in the first few levels is important, I guess I don't really know the situation you were specifically speaking about, but I assumed it was past the 3rd level if it had become obvious the player was crazy. If you don't cards, you don't get cards, but what I was saying is that if you've realized the person is pushing extremely liberally, you can take a stand with a wide variety of hands correctly, especially if it's higher than level 3, I mean at level 4 the big blind is 160 when you only start with 1000, that's HUGE and if you don't take the chips from the maniac, somebody else will, and then you have a chip disadvantage to fight back from. We can definitely agree to disagree, but I think this issue is ripe for discussion.
As for Audrey, god damn man, I don't know how you can sit there and listen to her bullshit. When she talks about poker, it makes me throw up. I'm sorry I ever talked bad about you man, you are 1000x better than her. Even Tina would try and correct her when they had shows together, I feel bad for anyone that has to listen to her talk about poker.
