  • Well we are here to compete but also support each other to get healthier.

So stop putting garbage into your body! But yeah, that shit does taste so good. Mmmmmm Popeye's...

You need a strategy to cope with these temptations. Give it some thought.

If anyone wants any dieting or nutrition advice let me know. I've been studying this for 20 years but I've lacked the motivation to put in the extra effort and make the sacrifices. This time I'm sticking with it. I look forward to seeing the results in March, June and November. Feel free to harass me if I stumble along the way.

You are all fighting for second place but all losers are happy losers.

That said, today was a bit of a cheat day... I had a small quantity of Popeyes Chicken for lunch and holy fuck was it ever good. It's going to be a long 6 months.

I'm not in your challenge, but I can give you some advice from personal experience as I was a fat kid growing up. Growing up in a family of diabetics, we never had much sweet stuff around the house like cake or whatever. We had cookies, but Mom made them and they were incredibly low sugar (boring/kind of gross).

When I was out at a friend's house/out for dinner I'd splurge and eat that crap like it was candy. I became the fat kid.

At one point I just mentally convinced myself that desserts (cake/pie/cookies/whatever) was disgusting. Just keep driving that thought through your skull and eventually it will entrench itself. Now, if I go through a bakery/Tim Horton's, etc. and see that stuff I practically have to turn away as it grosses me out (actual nausea). I've applied this strategy to several other things in my life and it's worked for the most part.

Never did quite work for smoking and booze. Not sure why.
  • Did you guys eat out a lot? Kind of surprising you could get fat when I'd assume the bulk of your eating was at home.
  • Your friends' parents must have loved seeing you come over. Where's that roll eyes emoticon?

No, we didn't go out for dinner a lot but when we did I'd pig out. Looking back, I guess more of it was junk food type stuff filled with sugar, etc. Ho ho's, Twinkies, etc. at school.

That and the fact that my Dad grew up on a farm and wasn't exactly wealthy growing up. He was very proud to see us all eating huge/massive amounts of food and nobody was allowed to leave the table until you were done. He used to broil cheap steaks so that we'd have in between meal snacks. Between my brothers and I we'd go through two loafs of bread a day at least.

When I was 14 I weighed 205lbs., my brother was 20 and weighed 265lbs, my oldest brother was 22 and weighed 310lbs. We all lost at least 40lbs within 2yrs of leaving home.

appreciate the support - don't worry though, cheat days are a part of the strategy!
  • Much too soon for that!
  • FU I'm going to McDonalds!
  • Cheating now is like saying you'll only put it in a little bit.
  • Skip mcdicks and hit that nugget special at bk.

You have to do that or it hurts her too much. Lol
  • try more lube

There's a very solid (or not so solid) reason why in the trades they call the receipt from McD's a poop ticket. I can't eat there without knowing there's a bathroom within close proximity exactly 20 minutes after finishing the 'food'.

I can proudly say it's been years since I've eaten there. I do miss a whopper from BK every now and again though. Thankfully there's no BK anywhere within an hours drive from here.

Any of you guys tried the Atkins thing? My wife's doing it again and for some unknown reason I'm apparently on it as well.
  • There's a good reason...

Yes I'm on it. It has worked for me very well in the past. I just need to commit to better eating habits once I hit my goal.

The food is great. You have to commit to spending the extra time to prepare meals though.

I made a great omelet this morning. Three eggs, whipping cream, tex mex cheese and bacon. 3.5 minutes in the microwave. Delicious.

I also did some high intensity interval training, some weight training and walked a couple of miles. So far...

Blood sugar this morning was 4.4
  • Hopefully I don't fall to far off the wagon. Gone to Halifax for 4 days for a job interview and possibly find a place to live if all goes well. Down almost 6% now, right on track where I want to be. Once I fall through the 270's in to the 260 I will feel a lot better.
  • Eat some lobster! Sooooo goooood...

Smothered in butter and garlic... mmmm
  • Congrats on the weight loss, Joe. Keep up the good work. I haven't figured out where the others are in this challenge but you must be in the top 3.

When are Brent and cam going to post updates? Anyone else in contention?

Go to Subway, if you like subs.
  • Worked for Jarrod!
  • Dont like subway now mr sub yummy
  • Thanks Greg working hard at this. Did it many times and then you slack off eat crap and wonder why you are no longer thin. Got to make it stick this time
  • This sounds vaguely familiar. When you get to the age where friends start dropping dead, you start taking it a bit more seriously. I'm glad this challenge came along to give me the extra motivation.

I hope everyone does well and maintains.
  • This reminds me of when my Mom has my brother read the names in the obits to her and she sits there saying "no, no, no, yes, no, yes, no", etc.

Not involved in the challenge but I wish you guys all the best of luck. Your hearts and other body parts will appreciate it.

fyp.. and hopes my co mod doesn't pick me in any dead pools..
  • I have you in my death pool ;)

Bill is the only one I'm worried about picking me..

Although Zsa Zsa did "survive" Bill picking her. If you call that surviving..
  • I'm still sad that the DP didn't survive and you're all getting a smidge shaved off your little 'installing bars of life' for that reason alone. My margin got screwed up.

Business is business, and now I'm out of the business.

Just a hobby now. It is more enjoyable now without the stress of production expectations.
  • Why isn't Wild Bill in the pool?
he messages more on this post than most!

    I trust him.. sorta!

Not sure how he acts after being deprived of food

For the masses..there is more than 10lbs. less of me than when we started

I'm pretty happy with my svelte 170lb figure at this point. It deviates 5-6lbs up or down sometimes, but always settles back to around 170. I'm not sure why my wife is imposing her Atkins thing on me. She says it's being supportive of her efforts. I say I'm being starved.

Deprive me of food while painting and you're fine. I'll work like a dog. Otherwise, don't put appendages near me or you'll pull back a stump.

I am posting in this thread a fair bit. Hope it's not annoying anyone. I'm just impressed that you guys are doing this and supporting each other along the way, and that PKRFCE9 isn't ranting about the lack of poker content in this thread.
