Well playing cash would be the easiest way to make money
This. ^^^^^. Maybe 95/5 of pros I know make money primarily at cash tables. Tournies live are gravy only.
Variance in bi under $200 prob make unbeatable. Usually top guy in casino playing these everyday might come out 2.5-3k ahead / month. Not enough in Van. Your going to need a top 3 finish in either a WSOPC or WCPC to lock down any significant cash live.
Keep in mind BCPC main event final table at $2500 bi is only table that a top 9 will be 2 months expenses or more. Gotta smash $1/2 and move up. $2/$5 you can make living, but you'd have to be beating $5/$10 or higher on hours your logging.
And I'm not busting your balls. Look at BTP, prob one of only MTT grinders we know who makes a living solely on tournament poker. I'm guessing, knowing a bit about his history from interviews, he's working with a 6 figure roll or close. Guessing and just from playing patterns I've seen, he commits $500-1000 a day minimum to make enough to pay bills. This just isn't possible in live tournaments. You can't multitable.
I'm guessing in Van, your going to need $2000 a month just to keep roof, eat cheap and Internet phone. I'm low balling, and you already said you want to keep the life.
Based on 20 work days a month, you need to make at least $100 a day. Let's bump it to $200 as you want a bit of cash. Almost impossible to profit this on evening and early birds. Someone else can do math, but 30% ROI consistently seems decent for top players, so that's like $10,000 in cashes at least per month. Not easy.
I just pulled that Edgewater schedule and forget those tournaments. I don't know how much you played live back in Ontario, but $50-$60 freezeouts are trash. There will never be enough money in PP to beat them. Besides that, I guarantee that your looking at m of less than 5 when final table STARTS. It's all luck at that point. You most likely looking at $500-$1000 up top maximum. We used to play these 3 days a week. A $35-$45 even less. So let's say your winning 1 every week for even $800. Your paying $250 in bi, plus whatever else you drop on expenses. So $500 profit or $100 a day aka minimum wage....
Your going to need a field of 70 players or more to even have a chance of seeing that much up top, keep in mind in most provinces, tourneys under $100 bi take 10% of prize-pool for charity on top of rake. It drops to 2.5% over that, but there will most likely be a "dealer tips" 2.5 to 3% on top of as hidden vig or add on you pretty much need to take that means you'll most likely have to beat 80 players with a shallow stack the whole way.
I live on seymour, straight up street from waterfront station or w/e its called.. the main juan
Ok, Knight St. bridge, SE Marine Dr., SW Marine Dr., Granville, Granville St. bridge, home. Anyhoo, I'm sure you'll figure this all out yourself, so I'll end the geography lessons here.
Too bad you didn't mention this a couple weeks ago, before he left.
Two weeks ago he had an entirely different plan. And I didn't full understand this plan.
Regardless, I did same thing when I was 18, quit 5 year seniority job to move there, promisses of big thing by a best friend. His dads union didn't agree. Stayed a year, went home broke and broke down. But had fun.
lol everyone is making it out to be like im some huge massive failure
im not an idiot, just taking a little longer than expected to get going
This is not what I am trying to do. Obviously more drama=more fun ITT.
I don't want anyone I talk to to fail. Just trying to take what poker is ITT and talk more about it. I don't know what you do or don't know, so why not dissect the option being thrown out there. Given that we've established your working with minimum (assumed) right now, let's look at making the most of what you have. I think of you as more of tourney grinder than cash, but know you play both, so hoping to steer you towards right option now.
Cliffs. Forget the edgewater donkaments and let's hope next guy in your shoes that may or may not know reads this thread.
After bricking Sunday and being on suicide watch , I got a msg around 10 our time to get over to my buddies condo
We went out for supper at this crazy place in the heart of gastown that had crazy shit , my buddy had kangaroo steak, Brian had stuffed quail (Sp?) an I had the fish tacos lmfao. Washed those bad boys back with a few red stripes. *edit* place was called chill winston lol
We went back to their condo and I got to live sweat some 50/100 deep PLO against isildur. It was amazing for me because im a poker dork. Still can't believe it lol.
As for today, I'm going to play full stacked 1/2. I got a couple rebuys close by... But I'm going to feel the games out.
Also, I've vowed to myself no more 50bb PLO and drinking and all that crap. There to grind hold em, not piss around playing PLO and splashing pots.
Will start posting pics of chips and session reports and we can watch me climb
