oh yah, how about some valet service...or at least some markers in the parking lot..not fun walking around in -10 degree weather looking for your car....not fun...
My Bad - they have valet service, not sure how much?
They had all but one table open, and not much of a list. Biggest game was $2/$5 (3 tables). Seemed awfully quiet for a Saturday night, but I guess the 0.1mm of snow kept everybody at home.
Ambiance and service completely suck, but the incredibly poor play more than compensated. I can see it being very profitable for an average to good player, even at $1/$2. I was able to steal a bunch of pots with very little resistance, and got to see TONS of super-cheap flops with very marginal hands.
You know it's going to be a good session when the following hand happens:
UTG raise to $9, 1 caller in MP, you call $7 more from the BB with QTos,
Flop: QdTs6s
You bet $20, UTG makes it $50, MP calls, you shove $225 more, both players are covered with about $150 each and both call
UTG has JJ, MP has Q8os YAY!!
I would of had a killer night if my KK had held against AK (-$600), but still left with +$650 after 8 hrs.
Just got all signed up at Woodbine and on the list for 1/2 and 2/5. Waiting list currently for 1/2 is 25 players with 7 tables open and 6 deep for 2/5 with 3 tables. Looks like a full house here today not sure how long my wait will be. Only wanted to check it out and put in a couple hours so we will see what happens
Played approx 2 hours, up $300 playing 2/5. Would have been more but my QQ ran into AA preflop for a sizeable pot.
Overall, took abit to get used to the tables, but once I did, it was easy. Found the players at my table to be very soft and loose. Having 5 or 6 see the flop was common, and any preflop raise or reraise usually took it down. I can see it being very tilt inducing as guys were seeing flops with ATC. Atmosphere was borderline Hollywood...guys standing on any allin that was called and screaming for one card or another, then slaps on the back and brags for about 10mins. Found most of the players at my table to be borderline horrid, with only maybe 3 that had any idea on how to play. Played more like a home .25/.50 game than a casino run game.
So made it out to Mohawk last night to check out what all the fuss is about. After getting signed up for the Winner Circle Card and loading up some cash onto the card at the cashier window I headed for the poker area. The first thing I noticed was that there were only two tables instead of three...they have replaced one of the tables with an electronic version of roulette. I assume they haven't been filling up lately or maybe this was always in the works...I don't know. Also, there was only one table running with 8 players at 8pm when I arrived.
I was offered a lesson on the how the table works by a very friendly pit girl named Cathy on the empty table. I recommend this to anyone that isn't familiar with how these things work. She gave me a run down of the the screen interface and we played several sample hands before I signed into table that was running.
The table was only full for maybe an hour into my session, and was short-handed until I left around 1:30am. Mostly it was six-handed and we even got down to four-handed for the last hour or so. One of the regs there said that it was unusual for the tables not to be full on a Saturday night.
There was a lot of live staddling going on, and since I am not that familiar with it since they don't allow it in NF, I never opted to straddle. The guy to my immediate left straddled every single time...which I felt took some play away from me when I was in the bb. (What is the optimum strategy in this case, if there even is one? Or is it just a pot/action builder?)
Overall, the play was fairly typical for the 1/2 level. Lots of calling and 3-5 players getting involved pre-flop. I played ABC poker for the most part and cashed out for $700 + after my initial buy-in of $200.00. The pace of play was fast, no-one seemed to think too long about their play. I was the only one that tanked a couple of times. It took a little while to get use to the interface, as someone said earlier - it really is a mix between on-line and live play. One thing I noticed though - I found myself staring more at the screen in the middle of the table as play developed instead of looking at the other players. I caught myself doing this a lot, maybe it was just the distraction of being new to me...I'll have to work on this.
The highlight of the night was parlaying the free $20.00 I received upon signing up for the card ($10.00 right away and $10.00 the "next day" for returning to play) into another $72.00 profit on the new electronic roulette machine!!
I been visiting woodbine regularly over the past one month. (been to fallsview only once) I have to say this place is pure FISH TANK. Especially friday/saturday nights.
I switch between 1/2 and 2/5.
in my openion...
the software adds little action to game but I don't think it favors a seat/player/
for sure its programmed to take max rake every hand.
I seen too many set over set on flop, to many runner runner flush.
it is very possible to make 20k playing 2/5 or 5/5 in one month.
I have cashed out 2500+ more than once playing 1/2
also $4500 playing 2/5 (this is after losing a 3000k pot to this idiot who chased his gutshot to river) hahaha
anyways My screen name is My real name YAMA.
peace out.
YAMA, you are famous. Last week I was sitting at a table and somebody was talking about you. If I remember the conversation correctly they also mentioned you recently won the badbeat jackpot at Brantford.
Congrats, I wish that I could be so lucky in this lifetime!!! :cool2:
$240.00 profit last night at Mohawk in 3 hours of short-handed play.
Poker room was empty...only 4-5 players between 9-12pm
Talking to poker staff - he said that since Woodbine opened their tables it has killed the action at Mohawk. Apparently they still get busy on the weekends though. I'd think they still get players west of Milton (Guelph, Cambridge and K-W). Driving 25 minutes vs. 80 minutes to Niagara is +EV.
Booked another win last night....4hr session. Lost a 100 playing 1-2 plo after having to fold my 98jq on a 997104 board after betting flop and getting call then betting turn and getting min raised, called min raise then check folded river. One guy was running like god at my table and obv shows 97q2 for the nut.
Seems like one seat at each table gets really hot and people can't miss. Moved over to 2-5NL and scooped 800.00 and called it a night. Game is too soft....these regs complain more about not filling the table fast enough rather than focus on actually winning a pot.

same result last night, +$900 at 5/5 and -200 at 1/2 omaha. Not bad for three hours.
The plo doesn't get going often enough. People seem leery about playing. Put your name on the list when you come in and if the list becomes 8 or 9 players ask the floor to start up a game. They usually will but if you don't bug em it just drops off the radar.
Was playing on Sunday night and there was a player at my 1/2 table with over $2000. This is my second time here, I've encountered this amount of my money at this limit. I've asked other people what's the highest chip count they've seen at this poker room and a few people have told me they've seen up to $2800 at this limit.
I assume this happens more often at Woodbine than other poker rooms because the maximum buy-in for the 1/2 game is usually $200. Here at Woodbine the maximum buy-in is $300 and this probably why you see some players having a chip stack of over $2000 at the table.

I lost $162 playing one hour of 5/5 but I suck. Can see it being profitable and highly addictive.
My Bad - they have valet service, not sure how much?
Was this before or after she took all your money?>:D

Woodbine, top limit is 5/5 for now.

I been playing regular there and love it.
my brother hit the bad beat 52k.
I be there friday evening, anyone else?

Likely going tonight, probably playing 5/5.

I'm guessing it gets going at night.
I have seen it a couple times on a Friday night. No list usually and 1/2, $400 max.

No, the chip counts get high because the room is full of fish and donks.
