Withholding tax restrictions for Canadian's on tournament winnings at various casinos. Might be helpful if you are pondering on playing a tournament at different casinos:
- Venetian - only on any winnings over $5k
- Bellagio - all winnings subject to 30%
- Wynn - all winnings subject to 30% (?)
- Rio - ??
- Caesars - ??
Can anyone confirm Wynn/Rio/Caesars withholding tax requirements.
Wynn single table satellites look like a pretty good bang for your buck (if not subject to 30%) with only a 3.7% total rake. Total payout of $5,200 with $540 buy-in. Not sure how often they run, if at all?
I honestly can't wait, it's antagonizing to see people already down there grinding and I'm still here doing FA lol
I have a very stupid question to ask, but what sort of clothes should I pack? Can anyone give any insight on the night life? At clubs is it formal attire?

I know what you mean... Even worse for me as I will miss the gang as I won't be down there until June 27... But my flights are now booked, so two weeks from tomorrow...

If you mean a real club like Pure or Mystere then I believe at a minimum it is nice jeans and a shirt with a collar... No shorts and no running shoes... But if you are on your own, you will have more fun and spend less $$ at any of the standard casino bars that have bands or Carnival Court, where you can where whatever you want.. If you are not having fun, then head back to the poker tables to grind...

All I know is its 100 degrees outside and 60 degrees in the casino (or at least it feels that way). Your Canada Goose might come in handy if you are grinding for a few hours.
For nightclub advice, I would talk to our resident party animal...Blondefish

The first time I went to Vegas I rocked shorts, tees, etc. Its the desert LDO.
Then I realized Im a degen and never left the casino - froze my ass off.
Havent packed shorts or sandals for a trip to Vegas since.
WSOP satellites at rio. There is no tax held back as you are paid in lammers.
At least this is my understanding
Yes. I chopped a $150ish sat 2/3 and they gave me 1k T$
I sold the two $500 lammers at WSOP with zero hassle in about 5 minutes. Much respect for players there, they are standding in line about to buy in, what's difference to them. True players.
Try dumping vouchers here in Canada, every one wants to haggle.
Yeah for the most case its easy to sell lammers, but I have seen some people give a hard time.
As a poker player do a courtesy and if you are worried about the legitimacy of the lammer just get the guy to walk up to the cage with you and have them inspected before you pay.
That is the most common and safest way to do the transaction. Don't be an ass and refuse lammers. Makes no sense.
I can confirm that the Wynn's withholding tax policy is on net winnings over $5K. Played their noon tourney yesterday. Busted out 18th out of 80 runners: KK < AK .
Must say the tourney is excellent, both in terms of structure and organization.
I'll be heading down around the same time as Steve and CrazyKoby, playing event #38 $1500
Anyone have an idea of what else is going on at the same time? I'll be looking to SHIP some of the smaller buyin events for a measly 77K but not sure what else is running

Let the run good commence.
You got it backwards, tell her you need to go to Vegas so you CAN win $10K...
fyp
Does this include cashing out in cash games

Nope
$1500 event you would have to cash for $6,501 or more before you are taxed.
Cash games they do not know how much money you put on the table before you cashed out. So they do not tax you on that
