  • EDWIN!!!!!!!!!!!

STRO the young gun steps up!

Bullpen 5+ innings of shut out ball!

Bring on some Lynyrd Skynyrd and "That Smell" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hib4n9RmFrQ

    GG Orioles! On to Texas!
  • Great pitching performance for the Jays from beginning to end.

Safe to say that Gibby outmanaged Showalter. Can't believe he left Britton in the pen all night. Yay us!

So which inning should he have been brought in? The first time Givens gets the one pitch double play ball. The second time Toronto hit into the double play or when O'Day got a one pitch double play? Ubaldo Jimenez dominated us last week. Shoewalter had a plan it didn't work.

Orioles had a plan, it didn't work. Toronto's base running almost cost us. If Ezequiel Carrera doesn't get that two out hit, you realize we would have lost.

It was a great game! One team excuted a little better than another.

  • He could have brought Britton in for either situation. At least in the ninth he brought in a reliever with a solid track record. But once the top of the order comes up in the 11th, you gotta use your guy ans maybe you get 2 innings from him. You can't expect the lineup to turn over again. Also, Jiminez has had 6 good outings after a gas-can season. Do you really want to put your season in that guy's hands before you have to?

So regardless of whether the Showalter plan worked or not, the Jays had a better pitching plan to start with, and then they came out and executed superbly.

Oh, trust me, I know how close we were to losing that game after not scoring the go-ahead run from 3rd with 1 out in the 5th, and then the squandered leadoff double in the 9th. At that point I was sure we'd see Britton shut down any threat in a big spot, and it would be a tough go for us. My real hope at that point was to get to long relief in extras and we'd have a better chance there.

And +1 that it was a great game (other than the moron throwing the beer can at Kim). That was brutal.
  • The only reason we aren't berating Gibby's pitching decisions is because Liriano came in and pitched great. Showalter tried the same thing and it didn't work.

The only thing I don't get is why did they pitch the Encarnacion in the 11th, when they had previously walked him to get to Bautista already in the game. Why change strategy? They could have also used Britton at that point to try and get out of the jam.

But otherwise using Britton when you do not have the lead can not win you the game, it can only make it longer. Advantage Blue Jays for having home field.

Also besides the beer can moron, you should have seen the jackass behind the plate who thought it was his personal job to distract the pitcher by jumping out of his seat and waving his towel every pitch. They should have sent a cop there to stand in the aisle a bit as well.

Are you going to be there?

I was there. It was the best atmosphere of any sporting event I have been to and that includes a Game 7, Toronto win over Ottawa back in the 90s
  • Having home field was a huge advantage for the Jays. And I agree with Moose & Prophet, if Stroman lays an egg, everyone is on Gibby about his decision to start him. But because it worked out, he's a genius.
One thing I was surprised at was the Oriole outfielders weren't covering the lines to try and prevent Donaldson from getting a double. That seems pretty fundamental in a tie game.

I agree with the no doubles outfield as well 7th inning or later tie game or ahead by one. The embrassing part is Bryan Reynolds miscue, allowing Travis to get to 3rd. Then a number of ways could have scored him. As it is, I will take the three run homer as it gave me the predicted score I was given out yesterday.
  • I hope at least a few of you are planning to watch the NL wild card game tonight. Classic pitching matchup with Bumgarner vs Syndergaard. Should be a great game!

IMHO I find being a baseball fan heightens the experience of being a Jays fan! I am rooting for the Mets in this one!

On a Jays note looks like Osuna is good to go for the ALDS!

Is that because if the Dickey trade never happened the Jays would arguably have the top two starter in the major under the age of 25?

  • Lol I think I should change my handle to SeekTheGibbons since I seem to be in total sync with what they are thinking. :)

Jays announce the starters for ALDS Estrada, Happ, Sanchez, Stroman for games 1 to 4. If a game 5 is needed then both Happ and Estrada could start on normal rest.

As for me rooting for the Mets they have some ties to former and current Jays so that seems like a good reason!

Great pitching and a great game.

That's pretty cool that you were there. Game of a lifetime.

BTW, nobody's suggesting that Gibby is a genius. I just think he made fewer mistakes than Showalter. Even before the game, I agreed with starting stroman and having Liriano in the pen. I also like that he pulled Stroman when he did before he got into trouble. The rest was up to the players and they executed the plan.

  • Well I really think 8 relief pitchers is way too much. You only need 1 of Loup, Feldman, or Tepera even if Osuna needs one more day of rest. And no Pompey for that key pinch running appearance or Goins for defence either!

Crap I don't like this roster setup for the ALDS but at least it is the bottom relievers and pinch runners / defensive substitutes that is of any concern! I would of dropped Feldman (when the hell did he last pitch???) and included Pompey.
  • Yeah, I'm on board with that except I'd argue that you need one of Feldman or Tepera, or even 2, but not all 3 for sure.

Loup should not even be in the conversation. He can't reall go more than an inning and the only time either of those guys is pitching is in a runaway (like yesterday) and you need to fill a few meaningless innings. Can't trust any of them in a big spot.

Dropping Goins is not so bad, but I'd really like to have Pompey on the roster.
  • Now he is just as famous as me.

And the rest of the games to go extra innings!
  • Nah, 4 hour rain delays.

  • Rangers had the lead for half an inning in the first and half an inning in the 6th today and that was it for the entire series.

  • That was pretty thrilling for sure! You have to love that kind of back and forth edge of your seat excitement!

The way the Jays are rolling it doesn't look like it matters who they play in the ALCS! Nice they get 4 days to rest up with the ALCS starting on Friday.

Great hustle by Donaldson and a perfect slide home! Textbook!

    Go Jays!
  • Yes it does. Cleveland is closer and they haven't put their ALCS tickets on sale yet. Road trip?
