BUT, the highlight of the day was a brush with greatness after the game. Waiting for my son and his cousins to do the base run that they let the kids do after the game on Jr Jay Saturdays, up the stairs on the lower level comes porn power couple Jessica Drake and Brad Armstrong (he's from Toronto) and what seemed to be one of their grandmothers. Unfortunately no one to share it with as being with my daughter it was kind of hard to say, "Hey, guess who those 2 are".

Maybe, but the numbers he put up last year was a career year for him. I said it a while ago, chances of him duplicating his season of a year ago were slim at best. Certainly don't see him getting to 25 HR and being the first base guy or DH he should really be at the 28 - 30 mark. If AA knew he was going to go for it the year after Fielder was a free agent he should have signed him first. The problem is AA blew up his plan in a panic. Now we have no choice but to wait and see what happens.
He still won't admit he got fleeced by the Chisox either.
The raging concern about the Yankees in the spring was their loss of power, but that hasn't been a problem thus far. They lead the American League with 28 home runs and a .452 slugging percentage. Can DH Travis Hafner (5 HR, 1.120 OPS) stay healthy enough to have an impact all year long?

Virtually the entire infield -- Brett Lawrie, Maicer Izturis, Emilio Bonifacio and Edwin Encarnacion -- needs to provide more offence, especially in the absence of Reyes.

Also, you should be aware there is nothing in the rule book to prevent him from wearing it on his own. It is a little uncomfortable at first, but they get use to it.

I thought it was coming too but this is baseball and the OBA has a habit of protecting the "purity" of the game before the protection of their players imo. I have drilled it into him to finish his delivery in a defensive position. I'm pretty sure he'd say he wouldn't want to pitch rather than wear a mask on the mound. I can't blame him, I never would have either.
At least they lowered the age at which they switch to wood bats only.
My son starts his pitching career tonight, and this is always my biggest fear (oddly enough never when I played myself).

Strangely enough my kid pitches for the first time tonight too. I know what you mean about the OBA too. My kid started in softball because the younger kids had a better rule set. But the softball association also requires facemasks for all batters while the OBA doesn't. When he moved to baseball last year, he was the only one with a mask. Until they actually start pitching for themselves, the 'pitcher' on the mound had to wear a mask in softball and baseball. At mosquito and up, no helmet/mask for baseball pitchers and the kids pitch.

Sounds familiar. I assume he's a Cambridge Cub? Garrett played softball (fastpitch) last year. Mandatory facemask for hitting. Playing minor Mosquito baseball in Waterloo now, the first age group that the kids actually pitch themselves and no added protection. What really shocked me is that during try-outs last fall there was little to no emphasis put on pitching. Luckily I had a baseball background to teach some mechanics to Garrett last fall and in the off season. I'm afraid there are going to be a lot of hit by pitches and sore arms from improper coaching though.

The line: 2 IP, 4 BB, 5 K, 0 ER, every walk was on a 3-2 count though.
Hope he got the bite! I know I did and still love baseball all these years later. Jack Morris 1-0 win, 10 shutout innings is something I will always appreciate even more so than Carter's homerun cause I was always a pitcher first.
