  • This will be interesting.......running the same event with different number at 3 different casinos for a few of the tourney's.

Could be a shitty table move if they make you change casinos.
  • Lol. They play down to 10% and Day 2 go at it at the Deerfoot.

    That is 198k prizepool right?

Think I will come in and try to sat. into this on thurs. 26th...(I am guessing the thursday sat. is for this tourney) ....if I don't sat in, I will play the 550 on Saturday instead. Where should I play it?
  • I will point that typo out. it's either 189 max players or 198k prize pool. This is all preliminary info, but I am getting clarity and should get blinds structures etc, soon.

From what I understand the sats will work like this: for every 10 players in the $180, one person will get a $1100 seat, one a $550. For every 10 players in the $300 one will get a ME $2200 seat, one a $550. The difference/balance not sure if it will make an extra seat or be the bubble payout or added to the top prize, depends on entries I suppose.

As for which casino to play? IMO, Deerfoot tends to be the softest overall, which is why you will always find a few of the best to contend with as well. The Cash Casino usually has aggressive players, always a laggy game, but with that said it is the most profitable place to play for a good player. Most of the guys who have made it big, started there and had there first big win there. The Grey Eagle is my personal favorite, but only because it is the newest. Nice Room, you can smoke in the casino, but not in the poker room of course. The bathrooms are a bit of a jaunt. Overall, it would be the most balanced field I think, but the toughest only because al ot of players that have been around are playing there. That is both a good and a bad thing though.

You bust out of one, should be able to make the start of the next one too.

The $550's are good. Nice pots and fields.

My thoughts are to go to the biggest player pool, increase your chances of having a big stack...chipleader not likely to be coming from Deerfoot due to the short field there.
  • This looks real juicy. I'm going to be out in BC late August. Will def stop in Cowtown for some nice action. Keep the details coming.

Do you always have to make sense? ;) Good call. But the Deerfoot has the largest field for the events, yet the smallest field for Sat.'s??? I will look at my dates for the end of summer and decide which set of tourneys to play..the 19-22 or the 26-28
  • Liked the discussion and asked for feedback from Ron. So Day ones will not play down to 10%. They will go 8 or 9 levels then merge for day 2, so the stacks shouldn't be hugely unbalanced.
  • COPC Satellites
    Satellites - Aug 19th $180 buy-in - 1 $1100 buy-in and 1 $550 buy for every 10 satellites players.
    Satellites - Aug 19th $300 buy-in - 1 $2200 buy-in and 1 $550 buy for every 10 satellites players.
***The bigger prizes are awarded first, then secondary seats, and finally remaining cash.

    August 28th
Day 2 of $2200 NLH Championship is at Deerfoot - approximately 100 players and Day 1 of $550 at Deerfoot approx 200 players.

If anyone has more questions feel free to ask.

We are almost done building a landing page where structures and the likes are going, along with deals available for hotel, travel etc.
  • I was told there will be CPT satellites online including PartyPoker. When will they start?

  • What the hell does this Kelly guy know anyway??? The CPT has to follow the gaming regulations and does not have any online affiliations for this event.

Of course, much like the RIO having no relationships with the major sites, that doesn't mean people aren't going to notice that this will be the most awesome series evvvver and decide to put together packages.

If I hear of any of these poker brokers of sorts I will be sure to let you know.
  • Hey Jon boy...is there a special table and tv coverage set up for the Heads Up Slap Shot Challenge???
  • Noticed on 888 last night there was satty to a satty.....will eventually get you to a $340 satty for I think it was an 8K package for this event....unfortunately I could not find anywhere what the package was going to consist of.
  • yeah I was curious on that as well...have a step 2 seat tomorrow..

I am guessing the 5k hu, hotel, airfare and spending loot???
  • Bump for not knowing when to book a flight.

The first weekend and play the 1100 sat, 220 mon and 330 tues?

or the end weekend with the 550, 1100?

    Also need cheap hotel please.

    tx.
  • While I would like to be there for the 5k hu to see some action, I am booking in for the second weekend. 2200 sat on thursday, then either the 2200 if I get the seat or the 550 if I don't.

OK. So it appears that IRL (ie work) says Im coming for the first portion.

Playing the 1100 2day, the 220 Monday and the 330 Tuesday. (Events 2,5,6)

    Some Q's:

    1) Still need hotel, and am clueless.
    2) Do they run "2nd chances" at these places if you bust early? Im not really a cash player and would probably die if there werent smaller turboish events in the event I bust on say, the first hand.
    3) Do I have to pre-reg?

I had originally planned for the first weekend, but I have a friend coming up to play a live concert here on the 21st.

As for hotels, all I know is the Sandman for $109, but Jon was working on others.

Don't have to preregister, might might want to for the 220/330
  • Thanks!

Its too bad we're not there at the same time but this lines up conveniently with a work commitment, so I impulse bought a vacation!

Gogogo - is there anyone else in.
  • Jon - fwiw the Deerfoot does not know of any promo code "CPT" as listed on the website.

Not that it matters as its completely booked.

Also - on the website Event 7 shows to be a $550, but the registration shows $330.

What dates are you here? I can try and find something for you. Do you want to sell any %age?
  • I fly in on Friday night (20th) and leave on the 25th (Wed).

Ive already regged for the 1100 2day, the 220 and the 330. If I bust the 1100 Saturday I'll likely tilt reg for the 1100 Sunday.

I have a car rented, just need the hotel. Hopefully around the 100-120/night, not too getto.

Would be willing to sell some action, prob not more than 20% total. I'll also swap with anyone else playing.
  • I'm out of town except the 23-24 so I doubt I'll be able to play any of the events. I may stop by and play a cash game if I get a chance.

Where are you playing these events? I'm too lazy to look at the schedule.

The smaller events are at grey eagle(sp?) So I'll likely play the day 1 of the 1100 there as well.

There are really no hotels in that area (it is kind of near my house). The good news is that it isn't very far to get anywhere in Calgary.

I stayed at the Hotel Arts once 2 years back and it was decent. It tries a bit too hard to be "modern", but it's a decent location. Close to Stampede and Elbow casinos (you probably won't bother going to Elbow it's a limit room) and good access to major routes to get to Deerfoot. Not too far from Grey Eagle.

It is a bit more than you wanted to pay. Expedia has it at $132 average per night. I have no clue why the 23 and 24 are so expensive relative to the weekend nights. The only thing you want to check out is how much parking is there a night.

Hotel Arts (Calgary, Canada) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor

If you can get a deal on this it is also downtown:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g154913-d155241-Reviews-Sandman_Hotel_City_Centre-Calgary_Alberta.html

The only thing that sounded not terrible and cheap is Hotel Alma. ($85/night). It is not close to any of the games, but is right next to Crowchild Trail which takes you right to Grey Eagle. Probably less than 15 mins in non-peak traffic. I have never seen nor stayed here, but it got decent reviews on Trip Advisor.

Hotel Alma (Calgary, Canada) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor

3rd option would be anything in "motel village". Just a bunch of chain motels...noting too nice and overpriced for chain crap. Again, close to Crowchild so you can get to GE easily. I believe some other type of pros used these rooms at times -- good or bad? Prolly bad. I stayed at a motel here once before I lived out here and it was ok...I just needed a room, nothing special. Personally, I wouldn't stay here unless you are just going to sleep and leave.

Overall, Stampede is close to downtown if not considered downtown. GE is in the SW kinda all by itself off of major thoroughfares. Deerfoot is in a crappy industrial area in what I think is the SE (pretty far south) -- no idea if there are hotels in that area, but I assume they aren't nice if there are any. Hotel Arts would be as close to the middle of all 3 as you will get. Hotel Alma will is in the NW and will be decent to get to GE, annoying to get to Stampede and far from Deerfoot -- this is pretty much the same with motel villiage.

Edit: my bad, I just looked -- You can pretty much interchange Cash for Stampede for approx locations.

Use expedia.....I think anything downtown or on Macleod Trail will work fine if you have a rental. Just avoid rush hour driving times and it's easy to get around.

This is a new event, but I'd say unlikely. Possibly some satty's maybe.

Good idea for the smaller events with small max entries.

I'll likely come down for 1 or both weekends.

I booked at the (new?) Holiday Inn on Macleod for 129/n.

Already preregged for the 3 events on the COPC website.

    Hopefully meet some people there!

Never stayed there....but it's a good location. Close (5 minute drive) to Cash Casino (dungeon), probably 20 minutes drive to the other 2 locations. Also very close the the Stampede casino (downtown) and Elbow.

Still haven't met another forum member, so I'll try to make it down for the weekend you're there.

The hotel is blacked out online as it is saved for CPT players..have to call them from my understanding.
