Vegas trip open invite

Hey all

Alright, so here's the deal, a couple of us delinquent lunkheads got it into our heads that we need to go to Vegas. We know a few of your other delinquent lunkheads are likely going to grunt in interest, so we're putting it out there. Here's the deal.

When: First Week of November (exact dates TBD)
Accommodations: TBD (when we figure out the cheapest)
Cost: TBD
Various other shit: All TBD (yea yea, planning later)

DEADLINE: We are going to plan it the weekend of September 6-7th. This means that if any of you want to come, you have to ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CONFIRM BY SEPTEMBER 5TH.

So... post if you're interested, and any special shit you feel is relevant to the trip (deals / preferred departure location / dates etc etc)

Disclaimer: Before agreeing to attend this trip, please realize who you are planning on going with. The first three confirmations all but guarantees that this trip will include all of the following and other events / occurences ad hoc:

    - drinking
    - poker
    - swearing
    - bad dancing
    - man flirting
    - uncomfortable silences
    - uncomfortable conversations
    - uncomfortable uncomfort
    - pantslessness
  • Yeah mmoose and I are in but prefer the following week. First week of November is the PBR finals and room rates are more than double that week.

Yes I looked it up - Professional Bull Rider association has their finals in Vegas that week and I guess it must be a big thing. The crappiest hotel is going to be $100+ a night that week.

Cheapest way by far right now is to fly spiritair.com out of Detroit on a Tues or Wed direct for about $200.

Wes said JohnnieH has his vacation booked that week but maybe he can switch it to a week later.

Just so we are clear I'm suggesting a departure date of Tues. Nov. 11. Spiritair leaves Detroit at about 12:30. We could drive that day or leave Monday and overnight it in Detroit/Windsor and start the degeneration early at the local casinos.
  • tempting.. very tempting..
  • A friend had already invited me in November, so it's tempting.
    - He is playing at the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza, which is on November 1-25.
    - WSOP Main Event final table on November 9-10.
    - The American Poker Championships at Binion's, including a Casino Employees Event on November 3.
    - AllVegasPoker.com 7th meetup on November 8.

But there may be tournaments in Ontario that month that I may want to stay and play in:
    - the long-awaited Casino Brantford tournament series
    - WSOP Mega Satellite at Caesars Windsor on November 8.

  • I'll see what I can do about the vacation time.

Why Detroit? Isn't there something closer at about the same price? Personally I don't care about spending a few bucks more if we can leave from TO or Buffalo.

    Johnnie
  • I believe I was tentative as well....Are you not getting my FB messages?

    I'll know by Sept 5th.

Who else are you going to man-flirt with?

    stp
  • I can do the second week as well... we'll see what Johnnie can do

    And stpboy: Who WON'T I man-flirt with?

    Mark
  • Go Buffalo, I flew from Detroit to Florida earlier in the year, and when you get back, hung over, it is worth its weight in gold to land in Buffalo rather than Detroit, that 2 hr trek from Detroit to London via Ontario's flat lands is a killer.

    I will check my availability.
  • hmm...very tempting.

I've already taken the week of Nov 10-14 off and wasn't planning to do anything. hahaha Although I don't think I can 100% confirm by next week though. If anything I'll meet you all there.

It will definitely have to be second week of September before I can confirm...

So in summary 7-10 hours travelling to/from Vegas from Buffalo ($285) or Toronto ($375) with one stopover or direct from Toronto for $454.

Or 3.5 hour drive to Detroit and fly direct for $268 US.

    Driving directions to Buffalo, NY
    151 km – about 1 hour 56 mins

Driving directions to Casino Way, Detroit, MI 48207
    296 km – about 3 hours 12 mins

Driving directions to Lester B Pearson Int'l Airport, Canada
    89.0 km – about 1 hour 5 mins

It is only an extra hour to Detroit over Buffalo and you go direct. It is an hour drive to fly out of Toronto anyways. I don't see the big difference to going to Detroit driving wise and you save $160-$180 vs going direct out of TO. Driving 2 hours to Buffalo and then wasting 7-10 hours sitting in Airports getting to Vegas is a waste of time and almost a full day of gambling when getting there and also coming back. Take the 12:30 pm Spiritair flight from Detroit and you are at the tables by 3 pm Vegas time. Coming back you take the redeye out of Vegas so you can gambol almost the full day there before flying out.

  • Unless you already reside in Toronto :)
  • I'm tempted to do this too.

But I wonder, What does Vegas offer that I can't get at Fallsview?
  • What does Vegas offer that I can't get at Fallsview?

Low buy-in tournaments with excellent playing value
    Excellent customer service
    Much better comp
Huge game selection - possibly softer players

    Thats it for now...
  • $2/hr in comps at Binions. Friday night $125 tourney 6K in chips 30 minute blinds. Best value in Vegas imo

Friday night 7 pm tourney at the orleans 2nd best value in Vegas. I believe this one is $105.

I still say Detroit crushes that. Anyways getting there and/or where we stay is less important than everyone being there at the same time. Hopefully JohnnieH is successful in switching weeks.
  • My vacation has been changed to the 2nd week in November!

Wes and I where orginally talking about staying at Harrahs, but I really don't care where we stay. If we get enough people maybe we should get a multi-room suite? Any thoughts?

    Johnnie
  • But I wonder, What does Vegas offer that I can't get at Fallsview?

This may in fact be the most retarded thing I have ever had to read.
There isn't a casino around here that will make you as hard as Vegas will.

It is the only place that the Rocks don't need their Viagra.

Go on the trip, you will not be disappointed, gamble, don't gamble, drink, don't drink, it doesn't matter.

Vegas is what Heaven aspires to be.

It's also Hell for many of the losing gamboolers, including the so-called professionals. I think that each visitor loses an average of ~$700 on gambling there.

A winning player at Fallsview will have a lower win rate at Las Vegas because of all the -EV expenses. I want to go with ReefAquarium to Las Vegas so we can write a book called:
The Retarded Guide to Winning Money at Las Vegas and Fallsview Casino. ;)

Drink $700 in booze and you are even!

    Cool Johnnie.

We are going to book the Detroit flights by the end of the w/e and figure out where we want to stay. Possibly MGM. Anyone who wants the same flights as above is free to car pool with us.

You don't really think that a trip to vegas ONLY counts $$$ as to whether or not it is +/-ev do you...? There may be one or two other good things in vegas than that. You know fountains, um nice double decker buses.... ;)
And I'm not even sure if you consider only $$$ as +/-ev if your statement is true.. There is so much dead tourist money in Vegas that every time but one I have covered my expenses, of course I don't generally play anything other than poker.

Now on to Vegas trip considerations..... Since this is shaping up as a CPF trip the Rocks are considering an appearance... Maybe a Vegas Ryder/Royal?

Maybe it'd be safer if I met you in a well lit area ?

Orleans cash games have been very lucrative for me as well.
Good buffet right next door to poker room too.

Anybody looking for a good price on lodging
and not afraid to put off any firm commitments,
wait until about 2 weeks before your departure
    and go to hotels.ca
They start dropping hotel prices about 3 weeks out.
Right now, for early september, there's hotel rooms
downtown (Vegas Club, Plaza) for $18 and up.

Oh shit we miss being in Vegas for the FT by one day. Maybe it will still be going when we arrive.
  • I'd love to fly out of TO and take
a westjet flight and watch bell xpressvu tv
all the way to lasvegas, but its a big diff in price.
Its not even the flight, it's the crazy fees
and taxes you pay to fly out of Pearson.

Spirit out of DTW has had the
best deals lately, but its definitely 'discount'.
Not sure if you've flown spirit before,
but its a pretty tight fit. I'm 5'8" and there's
not much room to spare. If you're
6ft tall +, be glad its a short flight to LV
Some of their planes are pretty dirty
and worn out... just an FYI, so you're
not shocked if you're used to flying
    westjet or aircanada.

If I have a choice for about the same $,
I'd fly with southwest from DTW to LV,
but i'm cool with spirit too...
I can save that $ for the tables.
  • AFAIK...just fly whatever way you want and we can just meet there - not mandatory to fly out together.
