It's 288 on Rogers digital and 274 on ExpressVu. I believe only newer ExpressVu subcriptions receive CGTV though.

Nope, I don't have it. I'm sure Bell will add it later.

Thanks, and GL with the show!!

  • Hey Devin,

I played with you a few times a year ago or so in some live tournies -- was that head always shaved under that hat?
  • Is it still 288 on shaw in the west? I can't find it

    Look between 287 and 289.

    LOL! Go figure.

Don't worry Captain, you secret identity will be safe with us!

The name of the channel it's on is Canadian Gabling Television, or CGTV. It may or may not be channel number 288 where you live.

A Google search for something like 'channel lineup shaw cable' might help.

Actually CGTV stands for Casino and Gaming Television. Correcting mods is fun! (Hopefully that doesn't get me a banning) :)

It likely will, or it will get your post deleted with a warning
  • Meh, I'm actually just repeating the info originally posted by AA at the start of the thread, so whatever...
  • Nice knowing you
  • I just watched today's 12:00 episode. What a blast this one was. The bad calls with bad beats theme was pretty good. I liked your look of pure shock at sketchisms call of an all in with 95off and rivering the straight.

Your comments are great. The Simon Cowell thing was funny too.

Basically I am just man-flirting for the good show today.
  • Thanks very much FB.  The show is starting to become a lot of fun for me, as we air complete sit and go's front to back, and as we are now truly live, more or less.  Tonight and tomorrow night are repeat episodes from last week (not sure which ones they will use), and I am back on Thursday night, and then on Saturday night.

Please try to catch a live broadcast and email me during the show... expert@pokernightlive.ca

I check emails every commercial break.  I'm really digging this interactive thing now that we are live.

Bad impersonation of Simon Cowell's accent: "Well I didn't HATE the play but I was like... so WHAT!?!"
  • This might be a late time to reply but I have watched the show every night for the last month.. and I will watch it everytnight form here on in.. Heck I lvoe it so much I actually watch the re-run the next day. I am presently 5 for 6 getting my E-mails read on the show. Great advice on my Ah 9h call.. I was sure it was but thanks for the back up..

and dude tina is hot. How you can watch any poker next to her is amazing.

I am a hardcore poker junkie.. if you could log how long my tv spend on CGTV you would see it is almost literllay 12+ hours a day. (im currently on disabilty from work therefore I get to watch alot of TV)

does the pokernight live website tell you where they will be "filming" and when?? I'd love to paly and get your comments..

personally my favourite player name is HOOF_HEARTED lol..

and I really don;t think Johhny T is that bad.. I do like the fact he is very livly and really not afraid to say "that play sucked"
  • I'm glad you like the show... it's a lot of fun for me to do.

Yes, Tina is an attractive woman.  She is also very good at her job.

As for our schedule, it's a bit of a moving target, but if you do some digging in this thread, and at the PNL site, I'm sure you'll be able to put the pieces together.  As we are a show that merely OBSERVES and COMMENTS on online poker, I can't go ahead and tell you outright how to play on TV, as I would then be PROMOTING online poker.  There is a fine line, and I am doing my best to respect it.

There has been quite enough said about "JohnnyT: hot or not?" (I don't mean physically).  I don't get a chance to watch many of the episodes, but from what little I've seen, and from the feedback to the show, I think he's doing a great job.
  • Yeah johhny T is ok IMO. He had 1 pt made about 6 play max SNGs I didn't agree with and I will E-mail him tonight to get a better idea of what he meant.
  • Hurry up and get on regular cable...
  • Any chance the "Best of" Episodes will be released on DVD?

I wish.  Then I'd be a REAL celebrity...  ;)  288 on Roger's digital, 274 on Bell ExpressVu, and maybe StarChoice, I'm not sure.  I'm afraid I can't do any better than that.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but for the sake of argument, I'll pretend that you are.

I think a PNL DVD box set is a great idea.  But, I'm biased.  I will ask the producers about the possibility of such a thing.
  • I think we should write some lines for Devo to use on the show, being as he's borrowing material from the forum anyways... (I caught the episode where you quoted Magi - actually misquoted, and then stumbled to correct yourself) :)

    Get your submissions in!

And good work thus far on PNL.

LOL, I only sass stpboy, itsame and drtyore!!

    So, yes I was serious.

I don't get the channel that the show is broadcast on, and I imagine that some others who don't would be interested!! Maybe you could do a DVD commentary about your show commentary!! :D
  • Hey devo, finally got on these forums. Thx for replying to my email so promptly.

Gj on your work with PokerNightLive, i can't imagine how anoying it must be for your to sit and watch such god aweful poker for so long :) Have you ever had any of the regular online players, like looperville or umm can't remember any others now, contact you through email? I'm sure if they just watched one episode they'd gain a huge amout of knowldge and skill... Also, how come it seems that the
buy ins/ chip stacks at no limit games are huge compared to the blinds. I'll play .25 .50 with friends at a 20$ buy in, where as online they seem to have 100$ and yet somehow the quality of poker is much much worse than that of me and my friends... Do these people just not care about their money?

Damn.  I was hoping nobody from here saw that.  Tina had asked me a question about letting your emotions get the better of you while playing poker, and I immediately thought of Lou's quote.  (I rip off everyone and everything, by the way.  If you had to talk for 2 hours a few nights a week about poker, you'd do the same thing.  That being said, I try to give credit where credit is due when I can...)

So, I said: "Well, Tina, a friend of mine named Lou once said: "You should use your emotions to influence you, not to guide you"" or some such nonsense.  I immediately thought: wait.  That sure does sound wrong.  So, during the game (which I was supposed to be talking about) I was frantically searching this forum for a ScottyZ post, because Lou's quote is his signature.  Tina glanced over, and saw me fiddling about on my computer.  I think she assumed that I was playing $30/$60 LHE and was no longer interested in the show.  At any rate, she filled in for me while I dug around for the quote, and when I found it, I corrected myself.  Ugly.

This sounds like the beginnings of a postmodern spiral.

Thanks for watching.... much appreciated.  I only get annoyed when people play really bad.  One or two bad players at a table I can handle... gives me something to talk about.  When an entire table is playing poorly, though, my interest starts to wane...

One player named Patchy has contacted us a number of times.  Others have as well, but not as often.  More and more Canadian players are playing now.  It is a UK-based site, so initially the games were full of players who were mostly from the UK.  That has changed... it's not uncommon for the majority of players in a SNG to be Canadian.  They all watch the show... some email, some don't.

I think that the stacks at the .25/.50 NL cash games are reasonable.  I think that $20 is far too little to sit with in such a game.  Think of it this way: you open-raise to $2 and get 3 callers.  $8 in the pot.  You want to bet 3/4 the pot on the flop, that is another $6.  Somebody raises you $6 more.  If you call, you have $6 left, so why not just move in if you're only sitting with $20.  And that's just one pot!  You don't want to have to reload every single time you lose even a modest pot.  I think that $50 would be a pretty good buy-in.  (100 X BB)  Similarly, I once played in a $2/$4 NL cash game and bought in for $400.  I was one of the more modest stacks.  I recently played in a $10/$10 NL cash game and bought in for 1K.  I was about average.

As for the quality of poker... well, that speaks for itself.  Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not.  And when it's not, you see the same solid players raking it in, week after week.  Fairly typical for online games... you get all kinds.
  • 274 on Bell ExpressVu,

Is this right? I don't have a 274 on my expressvu..
  • Apparently some ExpressVu users get the channel, and some do not. I believe it depends on when you first ordered your service, and maybe another factor or two. If you're interested, you might want to call Bell ExpressVu and find out if it's easy for you to receive CGTV... there is a lot of poker programming besides PNL.

Same here. I ordered Expressvu 3 years ago, so I guess that's not soon enough.

    Devon,
Do you actually play $30/$60 LHE while taping the show? You should put that on!! Or have another host critique your play.
  • first ordered your service

    Yeah... ordered.... right.

I'm going to assume it's on the second satellite and thats why I don't see it..

LOL. No. Although, I do play before the show, and in the break between episodes. It's... ummm... research. Or something. I have joked with Tina that one day she's going to glance over at me and see me playing during the show, but that will never happen. Believe me, it takes every tiny little bit of focus I have just to stay on top of the action I'm supposed to be talking about. My brain would explode if I tried to multi-task.
  • Oh ya i'm not suggesting i buy in for 20 (minimum) at a .25 .50 game, i'm just saying it seems kinda riculous how loose people are with their money preflop which then requires them to buy in for lots of money. It's just really anoying playing online cash games compared to my home games where we don't call with just anything preflop, cause that is how you are supposed to play a cash game right? Play the premium hands, no need to make loose calls or preflop bets to keep up with the average chip stack..
