I was watching a version of this show over in england and found it to be a new, interesting spin on the game. Over there they didn't know what they were talking about but after watching this version, i can see that you do.
Caught a bit of last night's show after coming home from a game...
Something else I'm finding interesting is to see what all the hole cards are. When watching poker on TV, they only show the "interesting" hands...but watching this show, you see a lot of hands where the highest hole card is a 7, and nobody has anything of real consequence on the flop. I think it really reinforces how much position, betting, etc has to do with this game, and it's not just about the cards.
Thanks dunks. I haven't seen the UK version, but it has the same name... ours is pretty much a 'spin-off' of theirs, and it hopes to achieve the same success they've had with it. That'd be nice, for sure.
And that's something I like about the show too, Elliott, although sometimes I feel compelled to "make it exciting" when nothing much is really happening. In a way, though, as you pointed out, it can be very interesting to watch people play position and marginal hands when everybody at the table is holding crap. Not literally.
I also like the fact, along a similar vein, that we spend quite a bit of time looking at games like $2/$4 NL and $1/$2 NL. These are limits that a LOT of people play, so it's cool to see how the "typical" $2/$4 NL cash game player plays.Â
We have a "rapport". Basically, I make fun of people who open-limp in the cutoff with playable hands, and Tina tries not to laugh while she's being nice about everything. This gig is a lot more fun than I expected... I am assuming that most of the players (at the moment) are UK-based, so I tend to berate some of them pretty badly with no fear of reprimand.
That being said, I also explain why I'm berating them, and I don't actually insult THEM... just some of their plays. Newbies learn something, and experts are entertained. Everybody wins.Â
damn man, i have to tell you, i watched it a few times, and thought, geez, that guy looks like that all_aces guy on CPF, but didnt think it was you, i don't pay THAT much attention around here apparently. Well, i think you are doing a great job man and keep it up.
True true... all the make-up in the world can't hide the fact that both of my thumbs bend +90 degrees in both directions.
My big toes do the same thing. I am a freak.
Wow. Truly something I didn't need to know.
As for the show, I am liking most of it, but I would really like to watch one of those SNGs a bit more. In one episode you were liking one guy's play and then next minute he's gone and we didn't see why. It just kind of bugged me. I understand that the program is complex in that regard but it would be nice to see.
Yeah, the program is fairly complex in that regard as you pointed out. The problem is, we need to take commercial breaks... not really a "problem", but you know what I mean. And they always seem to come up at the worst times... like when there are 4 players left and 3 make it to the money, etc.
Another thing is that they like to cut back to the studio briefly after every couple of hands, but that is usually so brief that it doesn't really interrupt the flow of the game.
And finally, the show has to have some sort of "life" to it that people who aren't hardcore into online poker would be able to appreciate. This is why we cut around from table to table, and this is why we cut back to the studio so I can take an email question from time to time. Sitting on one screen for one sit and go might be interesting viewing for "serious" poker players, but more casual players might just want to see a guy lose $500 on the river in a cash game. We are working on with this stuff, but it's not easy.
However, I have managed to make sure that if we're going to cut from sit and go to cash game to sit and go to cash game, we're always going back to the SAME sit and go. You can imagine how disjointed it was when we would randomly drop in on different sit and go's, with different players at different stages.Â
I might propose that one of the two hour-long episodes we tape tomorrow is dedicated entirely to one sit-and-go, with no emails or anything. Commercials are obviously beyond my control. We have no means to pause the poker action during commercial breaks, but if we just look at one sit-and-go from beginning to end I think we'll catch a lot of it. Then I can do an email and/or look at cash games when it's over (they go fast... the blinds are aggressive). If they like the idea I'll let you know when it's going to air... probably this Friday.
Edit: it's available on Roger's Digital Cable AND Bell ExpressVu. Oops.
And Hork, I don't call people donks. I just say "maybe they're new" or "that's a terrible play" or "I have no idea what these guys are thinking", etc etc.
Oh, I know you don't call people donks... I'm just preparing you for to resist the compelling urge you're sure to get if you ever see me play. People call me names all the time!!
Instead, I'd prefer something like, "This Hork42 chap seems to be playing at a level far higher than any of our television audience members would be capable of comprehending. Let's watch him as he loses all his money."
Do you know if there are any plans to re-air the episodes during the day? Or did I just miss that? The night time viewing is hard on those losers like me that are up at 6am.

I'm going to put a few episodes on tape for them.
As for repeats during the day, the previous night's episodes repeat from noon to 2:00 the next day. At least, for now... the schedule changes quite often as it is still a very new show. I believe my episodes will start airing again this Friday (maybe tonight, but I doubt it) so the "sit and go special" I'd like to propose should air on Friday night, and Saturday afternoon.
Say I play on Riverbelle, any idea when I would need to play and when it would air? I know on the website it says Thurs and Sat, are the ring games any specific time or just random ones that are just recorded and commented about later?
The show records from 10pm to 11pm and then from midnight until 1:00am. The content we record from 10pm to 11pm is aired from 11pm to midnight (delayed by one hour), and then the second half of the show (from midnight to 1am) is truly live.
Hope that's not too confusing.
As for which tables make it to air, they are clearly marked as TV tables... sit and go's and cash games.

I like this show, I'm at the point now were I'm either working, playing poker or watching poker on TV its driving my girlfriend nuts. Great job on the show aces really fun to watch and very good for my poker game too.
I made an error in my last post in this thread, which I will quote and use strikethrough to correct:

I'm glad you're enjoying the show... email me there if you have any questions, or if you disagree with something I've said.Â

Thanks for the input.
Currently it is only available on Rogers Digital Cable; I believe it is included with the basic or mostly-basic package.
My parents only get Cogeco too.Â
If you ever find me playing at one of those poker sites, please don't call me a donk on air...

Makes sense, thanks.
BTW have you tried this new casino game?
"Wow, I am surprised that MDSGuy hasn't tilted yet, that's the second time his quads have lost to higher quads"
"Can you believe MDSGuy is still hanging in this tournament? He lost his third full house to a higher full house and 2 quads"
"Remarkable that he held on long enough to get AA short stacked, only to be rivered by 68o getting 2 pr."
"That's Poker"
"Maybe next time for MDSGuy"
