  • Heading to Vegas in September and staying at Mandalay Bay (anniversary). Will be able to play lots of poker except on the anniversary day. Was wondering what kind of action at this casino? Play mostly cash and was wondering if poker room is filled with regs or tourists or if better to play at a different casino close by? Any info would be helpful thanks in advance.

You get unlimited access to the Mile High Club during the flights.
  • I will be in vegas end of august......
  • Moose - I'm interested in this excursion. So far the proposed dates work well with my work schedule. Keep me posted on any changes and let me know when you need a firm commitment.

  • Oops. I was just about to post that I quoted those dates as a placeholder to reference to on any future booking. I can't actually go those days.

Thanksgiving long weekend I'm in Maine for a chiptalk meetup.

Later in Oct may be possible. Oct. 20 - Royal Cup. So before or after that weekend.
  • OK. Before Oct 20 is much better for me. I have commitments on Oct 24 and 25 that I shouldn't miss.

I recognize that, heart attack special at Ellis island...;)

    Man I miss it...
  • Hubby and I are heading down on October 26 or 27. We have a spot booked at Polo Towers for Oct. 27 to November 3 but might head out a day early and get a different spot for one night.

We've looked at CardRunners' tournament list and the Mirage Saturday morning tournament looks very interesting. Has anyone played it?

Also, Moose we are looking for some good recommendations for meals out. I read one of your last TRs and thought the buffet pass was a great idea so we're gonna try that this time. We have a full kitchen in the suite so not gonna lie, we will save a ton of money eating in but still want some tips from those of you who head to Vegas more than once every other year.
  • I stayed at Polo Towers my very first trip to Vegas. Watch the Bellagio fountains from the rooftop pool.

My top 2 places would be Ellis Island BBQ and Hash House a Go Go in IP. As I posted, Caeasar's opens a new buffet in Sept so the 24 hr pass would be worth using to check it out.
  • Also...we are not "comp meisters" so we need some guidance as to a cheap/decent room for the 26th of October. Looked at Hooters (one of hubby's must-see's...imagine!) and they're like 81.00 all in for one night. That seems like a good/excellent price to me considering all the strip locales are $130 and way uo for one night. Suggestions are awesome...don't mean to hijack...just seems to fit the topic...
  • I can't see you doing much better than that considering it's Halloween w/e and the rates are going to be through the roof. Hooters is kind of a pit though and currently in bankruptcy.

  • Yikes! Will keep looking...thanks moose!!

I really would not recommend Hooters; it is a bit of a dive, although maybe it might be okay for one night. For about $20 more, you can probably get a room at Excalibur... Right on the strip and the rooms/hotel will generally be cleaner.
