  • El Cid - a young and studly looking Charlton Heston stars with a young and gorgeous Sophia Loren in this late '50's Epic.

25th Hour - Ed Norton stars in one of the few Spike Lee films I can actually watch.

Unbreakable - Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson in a Shyamalan movie that comic book fans will LOVE, and most others will go "meh".
  • The Pianist
  • Are these clearly movies you don't want to have to pay much attention to? Because those are two different kinda flicks. I'lll do some off my head for both - also some of the lesser knowns, so I'm avoiding a lot of "blockbuster" movies.

    "Stupid no attention required" movies

    BASEketball
Mom and dad save the World
    Evil Alien Conquerors
    500 days of summer
    Bubba Ho-Tep
    Dead Snow
    Drag Me to Hell
    Fanboys
    Kung Fu Hustle
    Shaolin Soccer
    Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter
Real Steel - fuck you it was great
    Repo - The Genetic Opera
    Role Models
    Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

"Pay attention and love it" movies

    Oldboy
    Requiem for a Dream
    Serenity
    A Wednesday
    "The Chaser" - Chugyeogja
    Defendor
    Leon The Professional
Let the Right One In (AKA Let Me In - North American version, hear it's good too)
    Sunshine
    Once
REC (Original version of "Quarantine" - this one's better)
The Mist - best ending in a movie I've seen in a long while

Considered adding, but figured they were blockbuster-y enough.

  • In Bruges is one of my guilty pleasures . . . I love that movie. totally under-rated.

Really? I don't pay attention to the theatres, did they do well?
  • "A Prophet" is amazing, subtitles but the movie's so badass.
"The Orphanage", another one with subtitles needed, a damn good horror movie, ur eyes will be glued to the screen.
"Hugo" was great, saw it in 3D, def worth seeing
  • I forgot 2 others I always include in lists of fav movies, but you've likely seen them.....if not put down whatever you are doing and go find them......NOW!

    Grosse Pointe Blank
    Reservoir Dogs

*In the same vein, My Name Is Bruce. Filming a B movie within a B movie is genius!
    Dead Snow
    Drag Me to Hell
    Fanboys
    Kung Fu Hustle
    Shaolin Soccer
    Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter
Real Steel - fuck you it was great *Who the hell said it wasn't? I'll kick their ass! It was that damned Kristy wasn't it?!
    Repo - The Genetic Opera
    Role Models

When it comes to background noise movies, I'm all about Disney and Pixar, especially Lilo & Stitch, Wall-E, The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.
  • Guaranteed Grind Killer . . .

The Princess Bride. I even have the obligatory T-shirt.
  • Just watched man on a ledge, not too shabby
  • Yeah some good stuff listed itt but go with this first:
    Scott Pilgrim vs the World
you might replay it on subsequent grinds.
  • Killing Zoe
    Donnie Darko
  • Mark-

I watched The Mist, very good, thanx for that one

    no worries

I'll vouch for "Orphanage" fantastic movie. "Donnie Darko" however is a very niche-y kinda flick. I had to watch it and then do homework on it.

  • Im watching "kick ass" right now before bed, I had never heard of it

I have a feeling im going to watch every movie you listed, we seem to have similar tastes
  • Well I will add more later to ensure you hadn't missed any

A few more off top of my head you should have heard of

    X-men First Class
    Watchmen
    Sin City

And a TV show: The Walking Dead

    Mark
  • hahahah Kick Ass was ok at first, i was like "right on, cheesy teen romance with action hero's, i can watch this, not bad..." to when the girl super hero emerged, and i was like "wow this movie just went full retard.. I never go full retard." sigh.

    more movies tomorrow
  • costanza wrote: »
    "I never go full retard."

    That's wise.
  • I'm going more for the "you might not have heard of" in this list. No guarantees but all watchable:

    The Brest Fortress (captioned)
    Four Lions
    Harry Brown
    The Debt
    The Lincoln Lawyer
Leon The Professional (because it needs to be said again)
In Bruges (because it needs to be said again - It's like a fucking fairy tale!)
    Equilibrium
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (although the book is SO much better)

And I'm sure you've heard of this one but The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is great.
  • I loved Harry Brown. Michael Caine is such a bad-ass.

As for Dragon Tattoo, I hope you are talking about the original.

you didnt like the recent one?

No, I've only seen the newest. For a 2.5hr flick, it's got an interesting plot and doesn't plod along at a snail's pace too badly. Not oscar-worthy performances by any means, but definitely makes my list of recommendations. That said, I would still like to see the Swedish one and compare the two.
  • Have not seen the Daniel Craig version. I have all three of the originals on DVD, and I am considering getting the extended versions. There is stuff you see in the originals that would not be allowed in the Hollywood version without an "X" rating. Also, Noomi Rapace is so much hotter than Rooney Mara. I will get around to it eventually, but I am in no rush as, from what I have been told by those who have seen both, I would like the original better anyway.
