  • What does Jericho always do when he is about to return? Deny that he's returning :) It's his MO
  • oh you Bryan, I really hoped he was gonna wait for wrestlemania ^^'

edit: nvm, thought it was a bit too random of a switch
  • So, I need a reality check...

I love Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson)... but Micheal Cole needs to be neutered and fucked by a barb-cocked demon.... seriously.. this is NOT the way to build up your best in-ring worker

  • Thoughts on the slammy awards 2011. I'm typing as I watch, so this will be "real time" for me...

Somehow they got JR to start embarrassing himself, saves Cole, Vince, etc from doing it... sigh, Cole even tried to help him when he forgot his lines.

Foley is always funny - Big show is not. This so reeks of 2002 or whenever when Lesnar and Show did the same spot, won the same award. The spot was the best of those listed, but I could have seen Sheamus killing Sin Cara winning too.

Man, watching a replay of Mark Henry is bad enough, but in slo-motion? Really? I mea.... oh... never mind.

I do like Wade Barrett. Lol Big show doesn't break the table on first try.

Road Dogg? Nice! He should have a job teaching people mic skills. His timing is still spot on. Does Pipe Bomb of the year mean best promo? Biggest mistake? CM Punk should win if it's the first, if it's the latter, R- Truth's getting the name wrong is sweet, and his work on the mic made him interesting again! And who doesn't love Booker's randomness! Is this a blooper reel award? Some of these are hilarious! Well, looks like it was the best on the mic then. Ooh! A John Laurenitis greatest hit package? Maybe I should be watching this so late - I risk my status as "conscious"

Kelly Kelly winning "Diva moment of the year" really is telling of the attitude towards the women's division. Incredible innovation on one of the most classic moves ever (Natalya double-sharpshootering two other divas)? No, that isn't good enough. Beth Phoenix and Eve Torres's turnbuckle Glam Slam? Nope. Pretty blonde wins title because she's pretty? Yea.. that's the moment of the year. Also, Lita is still hotter than any Diva right now.

The Bella twins are as entertaining as John Laurenitis, which is to say, not at all.

It's hard to fake laugh convincingly. Tony Atlas can't do it.

That may have been one of the BEST fatal 4-ways I've ever seen, replace Ryder with a guy that can really go, man. No hate to Long Island Iced-Z, but his gimmick and inexperience means he's not in the other three guy's level.

Christian rocks. Kevin Nash should not be nominated for anything aside from the "Buying Dr. James Andrews a boat" award. Edge's retirement should be "Gamechanger of the Year". It left a hole for some kids to step up - thank your elders Ziggler, Bryan, Miz (and I like those guys).... and of course Dwayne wins. They defined the award as that "moment that changed the landscape of the WWE", and didn't include Punk's kayfabe-breaking promo? It better be on the card for some award later.

Okay, Cena was pretty good rippin on Rocky... but it's time to drop the personal ring announcer for Alberto.

Although superstar of the year is far and away CM Punk, and I SO hate to admit it, this was a banner year for Mark Henry, and he would have deserved it almost any other year. The tag match with those four was good, Miz stealing it at the end!!

These Kane promos are good, and I'm curious what the reasoning (if any) behind his re-masking will be.

A-lister of the year? No offense WWE, none of those were A-listers. I liked the Muppets on Raw, and Hugh Jackman looked like he legit loved being there. Either of those would be fine. Snooki did that handspring thing and that was cool. Who the fuck cares about Cee-lo green? I predict Snooki - she's still most popular. Look at me spotting the obvious! AND she did more than the Rock bothered to do - or was I supposed to forget that part by now?

Oh god.. Mark Henry's talking again. If they put this guy, John Laurenitis, and the Bella twins all on simultaneously, it would cure insomnia.

Sheamus vs. Jinder Mahal - has there ever been a good mic worker to get over who spoke in non-english? Wait, was that a match? Did they cue up music and video for these guys just to kick him in the face? They don't even always play the intros for the Divas! Wow.

Superstar of the year better be Punk. . . . good. Oh god, here comes Mr. NyQuil. At least that was quick.

Mark Henry vs Cena? This is the end of a three hour show? Sorry boys, skipping through it on 8x... looks like Henry trundles around, Cena tries to make it look good - hope something interesting happe.... oh look Kane! Mask? No mask? Is that hair? Ooh! Man, I don't even much like Kane and yet I'm excited!

Oh wait... wtf? Did Iron Man fuck the Predator? Please tell me that's not the new mask.. he looks like a villain from Skyrim or something. Alright, I can get behind the reveal... kinda looks like Batman fucked leatherface though. Maybe I need to cut back on the geek culture stuff.

Anyways good show, it's appropriate to have this one coming in at 3 hours, but it's still a long watch. Great fatal 4-way, and everything else is setup for the PPV.

  • Oh! Forgot the OMG moment

Yes, this spot deserved it.. .I remember actually thinking Taker was going to lose for a split second.

    Mark
  • Oh!

WWE.com revealed some more slammys... I'm only commenting on the ones I care about.

Fuck, didn't I just say Kevin Nash should never win a slammy?

    LOL @ muppet resemblance

T-shirt of the year should have gone to the discontinued sin cara penis shirt

Superstar Transformation of the year should be R-Truth. He's relevant again - ish.

Split second? This was pretty much the craziest match I've ever seen. Undertaker took pretty inhuman amounts of punishment there from 3 pedigrees, general slammage and a long as fuck match, not sure he could've stood up towards the end there if he wanted to

Edit: I'm pretty sure this topped the HBK - Undertaker match for me
  • I dig Kane's new mask. It's very similar to one that Keiji Mutoh wore years back, only without the gigantic bat wings coming off the sides. I've always been a fan of masked wrestlers so I'm definitely happy he's back under the hood.
  • Mark, I lol'd at the Dr James Andrews comment. Just wanted you to know that someone noticed it!!

Much appreciated to know there's other smarks around! ;)

  • Lol, searched the term "barb cocked demon" to find this thread.

    Anyways, TLC.

It sucked. We've been riding a high of several SOLID ppv's and this one was highly contrasted. But, I knew that coming in, so I was overall fine.

    Ziggler vs. Ryder

Good match, nothing too special, but the right decision was made. This is how to build interest. You have a kid with steam behind him, you have the heel champ deny him over and over until he's forced to defend it. Then you put the kid over clean. You can only do this with a champ that losing the title isn't going to hurt them, and Dolph's that guy. It frees him up to go for main event titles, and fills his spot with Ryder. There should not be a rematch, and Ryder needs to run with the ball.

Booker T got jumped...so much for the integrity back to the IC belt.

There's a tag match? Huh... well, okay. So a fresh and well rested Evan is back, and two guys that have had one TV match suddenly get a title shot (suck it Uso's!). Good to see the resurgence in the tag division. Alright match, nothing exciting really though.

Booker's hurt and may not compete? What? He takes more damage in 2 minutes of a match, and they're talking about cancelling... okay.

Teddy long as bigoted Santa. Nice.

Barrett vs Orton - I'll admit, I was busy chattin with others, barely watched this. Someone brought up a good point though with Orton hitting the RKO on a mid-air opponent. Two things, he's doing that too often now, and it'll never top the one he hit on Evan Bourne. Also, Barrett should have won.

The Bellas are backstage. I don't care they suck like a Kevin Nash match (FORESHADOWING DUH DUH DUH). Umm.. Santa's creepin them out, and wants to sit Swagger on his knee (line of the career for Swagger "I'll break your hip"). So, we get Swagger and Sheamus now? Aside, I love how Sheamus is sharing all the folk tales and such - awesome.

Oh god, a ladies match. If Beth doesn't destroy Bleached Botox Barbie I'm quitting wrestling. Oh, she won after only like three Barbie botches. Fuck Kelly Kelly - she's useless.

Backstage, Miz has ugly jacket, and I don't know how Ricardo isn't screaming about the hot sauce in his eyeballs. Also, Alberto is mean.

Oh good! Booker's gonna fight suckaaaaaaaaaa... wait, what? He's going to the back? After like 5 kicks? WTF? Did he bruise your vagina Booker?

Up next - WWE cures insomnia.

Seriously, this match sucked, and Nash botched standing up. How bad is this dude? If your combined ages = >90? DON'T FUCKING RASSLE. Kevin Nash sucks. Also, this gimmick is dumb - Sledge on a string match? I mean, does this mean that's the only allowed foreign object? Oh, no, they're hitting each other with ladders, so they're allowed too? What about chairs? Lead pipes? Is it no DQ? If so, who cares about the sledge - use a kendo stick or chair or anything else under the ring - they're all about equivalent. Poor booking, poor talent, and poor me :( Nash is helped out of the ring by paramedics - oddly enough it took less time to stretcher and transport than if he had walked on his own. I did lol at myself when Lawlor said "There's no way HHH is 100%", And the first thing that popped into my head is "Nash hasn't been 100% for 30 years".

Hey look! Swagger vs Sheamus.... at least part of team Ziggler / Swagger / Guerrero is pulling 2x duty. Umm.. Sheamus wins, and Swagger isn't Kurt Angle, needs repackaging.

    Big Show Henry part III

Christmas has come early, and I've clearly been a bad boy this year. A Kevin Nash match, a Jack Swagger match, and now Mark Henry. I had to call a suicide hotline twice. I think I'll never be able to be happy again. I feel like I'm in a deep dark well. Wow, Big show is now champ, I'm not happy, life is drab, pointless, I don't think I'll ever feel the sunshine aga.... WAIT A MINUTE IS THAT DANIEL BRYAN?!?! HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I LOVE EVERYTHING ON THIS MOTHERFUCKING PLANET!

Aside: Big show's ring gear had camouflage on it. If you're 7' and 400 pounds, you can NOT hide.

Oh! Here comes Cody Rhodes! I thought Booker was going to walk backwards all the way to the ring, but coming out 2nd makes sense. Solid match, but wasn't what I was hoping. More on that in the thoughts. Booker jobs as he should.

Oh! Recap! Why, look at that, World Heavyweight Champion DANIEL FUCKING BRYAN! Soooooo awesome

    Main event time!

Match was great overall, but it should be with the talent in there. Problem was, I never had a doubt as to the outcome. Miz has lost a lot of steam pissing around in the tag division, and Vinnie Mac seems to have soured on ADR. Some good spots, but where do they get those long handcuffs? Also, cuffing Punk to a ladder, and then trying to climb it? Not the smartest move. Ricardo takes bump of the night, maybe the hot sauce blurred his vision. This is way better and makes more sense than any other ladder-based match of the evening.....

    Kevin Nash sucks.

    Thoughts:

As I said, bad PPV, but knew that coming in. The Main Event had not "what if" factor, the Mark Henry vs Show match sucked, but I don't know if you hear, Daniel Bryan cashed in MITB and is now our Heavyweight Champ! And the third "big match" was dead in the water from the start. God I hope that's all for that.

    - Zach Ryder now needs to shed the "joke" aspect of his gimmick. He needs to come off as a badass guy. Keep the Jersey shore thing, but focus more on the "GYM" of GTL.

    - My problem with the Booker / Cody match was that this was arguably Cody's biggest name he's wrestled in a long time, and he needed to do something big. The backstage / entrance jumpings looked like they were to protect Booker. Booker doesn't need protection, he's retired or as good as. Apparently this isn't the end of the feud I'm told, so here's hoping.

    - Here's hoping Daniel Bryan's reign as champ doesn't suck, I want him to beat Big show, and beat him decisively. PLEASE let him carry it through to Wrestlemania at least!

  • I for one love your recap posts Mark! Keep em coming.:)
  • rodriguez isn't a wrestler is he? Was that fall from the ladder a bit too extreme for him? <.<
  • Ricardo is

He wrestles in FCW I believe, under a mask.

    Mark
  • Ricardo was trained in California, I believe with PWG, so he can definitely take a bump. I'd say he's more of a manager than an announcer, so eventually he's gotta take some beatings.
  • Next Monday is the big comeback for someone!

    Hopefully undertaker or jericho!

Hopefully not that Brodus guy debut, that would suck.
  • should be undertaker, sounds like it from the teasers
  • It's Jericho, but it seems to be teasing he'll come back with a different name possibly.
  • just out of curiousity, how many injuries are real and how many are fake in the wwe? I guess many are exaggreated but there seems to be the obviously fake ones like triple H and great kahli. But what about Christian, del rio and sin cara?

    thoughts?
  • I think it's legit. They will obviously overplay any "real" injury for effect (imo), but I do not see WWE giving their performers an unscheduled break without there being something truly wrong.

Don't forget that these guys are working a pretty hectic schedule. I would guess that their bodies take more long-term damage than an NFL player's does, because they do it for a longer period of time.

I know Bret Hart always claimed that the thing he was most proud of as a wrestler was not having injured any of his co-workers.
  • Definitely legit when they are gone for an extremely long period of time. When it's 30 days, they usually failed a substance test (not always, but it's a good bet that's what happened), such as Evan Bourne and R-Truth. Generally, they try to work the injury into an angle to build heat on whoever puts them out of action and create immediate buzz when they come back.

Christian, Del Rio and Sin Cara were all legit.

Iron Sheik is a Jabroni :D

first Kane and now Taker...Brothers of Destruction 1 more time :o
  • Lesnar will be back, especially after last night.
  • For Mania payday, probably. He'll never come back full time. Left because he couldn't handle the grind.
  • Well, now that he has retired from the UFC, and MMA generally, I think Mrs. Lesnar might want a little more cash in the not too distant future. And then, there's the lawyers fees for the inevitable divorce, etc.
  • True, but he's still under UFC contract, so he's not free and clear for anything. They know they're going to get a good Mania buy with Rock on the card, so I don't see him even wanting to come back this year. Plus, he wasn't stupid with his money, so he isn't exactly starving.
  • Have you seen the SIZE of that boy?!? That's a lot of groceries going down that hole.
