That is actually a good seat to be pushbotting from the CO and Button.

Stacksizes are big enouth on your left that you can make a dent, but still awkward enough that they cant make light calls.

errrr, where have you played? Poker players don't get comps.. :)

That was, you know, sort of the point . . .

sheesh, do you old farts have to have everything spelled out for you?

Good luck, and don't forget to get a decent pic with the winnings . . .
  • What is the average chip stack for the remaining 402 players?
    About 20K
  • Abyone with any experience at this give me an idea of how long it's likely to take to get to the money (pays 270)? I know I need 1 early double up, or steal once per round until I do, but will that likely be enough? Probably need 2 doubles? Avg stack at the money bubble is likely to be about 30K

My experience with wsopc, they will drop like crazy over the next 3 blind levels. Based on the posted stacks online, basically half the field is in pushbot right now. you're right, you will likely need 28-30K to money.

Get Steve's input as well. His day 2 last year the field went crazy to start the day.
  • You can do this, Jeff. You just need to believe in the power of ridiculous head gear . . . Bring home some $$$.
  • The goal isn't to get to the bubble or just past it -- start getting more aggro and accumulate some chips, you have no choice but to play push or fold at this point. GL!
  • pokerpages has a better summary of chip counts. You are 313 out of 397 (although they have you with 9,300). If you look at the players in the 270 player range (making the money), they are only slightly ahead of you at 12,000. So, realistically, if you can get a little lucky, steal some blinds, and not run into a big hand, you should be able to at least cash.

btw, there is another player from Orangeville in 25th, Robert Laberge.

Saw that, gonna try and find him before we start and see if I recognize him.
  • Last year when I started my day 2 we were already in the money (272 paid and started the day with 264) I was in a similar situation as you, push or fold mode, and noone really doubled me up, I just built a little bit of a stack by eliminating 2 smaller stacks with big hands (got lucky)

I think all you will need is one average double up and you should get into the money as there is alot of smaller stacks that will be pushing alot as well
  • GL Jeff,

I want to see you in day 3!!!!
  • Ok, made myself a chart of my table with names, where they are from and chip stacks. Looks like the 4 positions to my left are all vunerable to my pushes, ie I can hurt them. Likely they will need a hand to call me. I can swap places with or catch up to them by doubling through them. Except for the person 2 to my left who has 4 times my stack. Him I'm going to have to be more carefull with. I'm going to attempt to make friends with these 4 prior to starting, to hopefully avoid a "light" call... lol... Psychology 101... hope it helps...

Thanks Steve, and do you know Robert Laberge from Orangeville? He's in 25th/

I hope you come back with decent position so you have a few hands to choose from before you do the push and pray move. Good luck w the rest of the trip.

Looks like there are two other shorter stacks at your table and five players under 12,000. So there should be lots of fireworks early on. If John Solis is in the BB the first hand, I would expect a push either the first or second hand for sure. Lot of work ahead of you :

    (Table 85)
    Steven Cathcart - 34400
    Chuck Goldstein - 11500
    John Solis - 5900
    Jay Trumble - 28600
    Anders Beckman - 8700
    Jeff Cookson - 9300
    George Banziger - 27500
    Jeffrey Miller - 36800
    Kimberly Logan - 21800
    Jack Warner - 9300

Jeff's Twitter, Poker News...a text message?
  • Like the "most interesting man in the world" does, live vicariously through yourself my friend. Then go have a couple of dos equis.
  • Well that hurt..... Before I get into the gory details, just want to say thanks for all the great support and suggestions on here. It really helps to have someone to discuss these situations with. I went in with a plan, executed it, and was executed myself. lol, well not really.

I'm in the 6 seat, button in the 10 seat. We play 6 hands, all raises or allins preflop and I either have garbage or no fold equity. Finally hand #7, I'm in the hijack, folded to me. Snowmen, (pocket 8's for the uninitiated) I push for 6.9K, button who has about 32K repushes, hopefully AK??? Please let it be AK, nope...... 10's and I'm done in about 380th place... Why can I never come from behind... lol... But I did enjoy it, very impressive place and I would do it again.. However once you've played one of these you realize how big the tournament variance is... I'm sure if I played 100 of these I would be up but I would have to live long enough for the positive side to kick in... Guess I should stick to the more manageable size tournies..... 50-100 seems to be my sweet spot.... That is unless someone wants to buy me into a 1500? you keep 90%... lol....

Again thanks all for the support and the best of luck to you all who still have their events to play.. I feeeeeeel a bracelet coming to PFC this year...

GG, congrats on a great experience. If I may, I think a huge error was letting your M get to 4 or so (not sure the exact blinds/antes), I would have been shoving a wide range much earlier than that...but what do I know I don't play tournies much anymore.
  • Nice try Jeff, would have loved to see you take this down, but there is always next year. Nice run!

Thanks for the opinion, but as I said in my earlier post, all 6 hands prior to my elimination has someone in 1st, except from my one UTG hand where I had 9,2 as I recall. In retrospect I probably should have been shoving much earlier yesterday, although I did have a few big pairs that I shoved with when my M was 12-15 but got no callers, gotta get someone else with a hand as well.... at the right time... That's tournament variance...
  • GG and great run....

Really now adays with tournaments you have to play your A game and hope the cards come, seems like most players who have won bracelets in the NL events have had the deck hit them at one point in the tourney (just watched Basebaldie's interview on cardplayer for event 34 and he basically ran like god flopping sets, etc all on day 2)

I totally agree, play a 100 of these and you will probably sneak out a good pay day.

lol, now if I could only figure out a way to live another 99 years..... Thanks for the good words..
  • Congrats on a decent run - tough to make many moves when the cards just don't seem to come at the right times... You made it further than many other players and I enjoyed following the updates on twitter.

Are you taking a day off to re-charge and then hitting another tourney?
  • Yes, where do you plan to be on your last day on June 25? StinkyFingers and I are scheduled to arrive in Vegas at 10:20 AM on Thursday. Depending if Binion's gives us a room early or how sleepy I am, I plan to use the rental car to go to the Rio satellite room at some point.

  • Well done sir! You played awesome. That one hand goes a little different with the AA vs KK, you're golden. Nothing you can do when you play your best and the poker gods decide to let someone else have a turn.
