Haha, please note that I went out of my way not to bump this thread 🙂
Comp,
Have we not learned yet of the massive incentives to sell us on fear? Keep us scared and the masses will react predictably. Every time.
Optimal strategy is to turn off the TV and go outside.
Another good strategy is to buy the dip... see moose's post above.
Either way, America is not going anywhere because of a few weird trade deals, and with everyone so polarized, this latest "current thing" is literally just more manufactured outrage.
Funny point about the trade stuff is that his whole strategy is just him following the steps in his own book. Short version: start with giant and super unreasonable demands, then create urgency to act, then negotiate from there. We're in the urgency stage now, and many countries (retarded Canadian leadership excluded) are already pursuing negotiations. All will be fine in the long run.
That leads me to the Canadian reaction. This is actually getting insane. Carney said the other day that this is "the biggest crisis in our lifetime". He is keeping that fear up because this one single issue is winning him the election. Nevermind that hes the big banker elitist who could care less about us peasants, or his stated goals of making things measurably worse for us (read his book) in service of his longer term climate policies, or his liberal cabinet being 97% the same people responsible for our declining standards of living, broken economy, out of control crime, etc. Make no mistake, he pitches himself as a 1990's liberal "normal" but he is as far away from that as you can get. Our state funded media in Canada knows all of this too, but why would they say otherwise when they are incentivized to support them? Again, turn off the TV.
I will also have to go on record that as much as I supported Trump for helping dispose of the extreme left in the USA, ill never forgive him for one thing: destroying conservative momentum in Canada by making our election come down to this one single issue. Not long ago the liberals were at risk of losing their party status... but through some clever (not sure clever is the word...) tricks, Carney has fooled Canadians into thinking the US is our problem, taking all of the focus off of the Liberals horrendous track record. Same team that called Canadian flags "right wing symbolism" have somehow used nationalism to pull ahead. Crazy.
Last point and Ill stop ranting: can we also talk about these betting lines?!!? Theres some manipulation and/or bias in the polls that seem to be presenting some interesting odds. Canadian betting sites have no volume, so they move around a lot... but 3 to 1 on a conservative win? 8 to 1 on a majority? .. this has to be a good buy ... you guys aren't actually going to vote for the elite evil banker guy are you????
