  • I did it myself for my win in 2012 and it took 4 months as your first filing you need to apply for an ITIN number to be able to file a non resident US tax return to recover withholding.

I also filed in July 2015 for my cashes in 2014 and found out the minimum time for processing is now 6 months which is published on the IRS site. If you call before six months to see where your refund is at all they will tell you is it is in process.

It might be faster if you pay a 3rd party as they have connections and can followup for you all thou you can followup yourself either online or by calling the IRS.

Also keep in mind that the IRS appear to have gotten a lot stickier on documenting your losses. For example the tourney receipts or casino receipts must be in your name or at least have your player card id. You do not have to submit receipts with your filing however you will if you get audited or if you use a 3rd party provider.

You also cannot send in your 2016 return for your win until Jan 2017.

One last note if you won $10,000 and had $3000 withheld you need to show losses for the $10,000 to get the full $3000 back. If you only have receipts for a partial amount you can get 30% back for the lesser amount. (i.e. If you have $2000 in tournament receipts for 2016 then you get $600 back).

    Hope this helps....Steve
  • Thanks for info...

Question, do the losses have to be for 2016 or can I go back a few years?
  • Losses have to be in 2016. You do have up to 3 years to file. One important note for filing you need to provide the exact dates you are in the States in 2016 even if it was not for gambling. You will also need to provide total number of days you were in the States in 2015 and 2014 as well.

Good luck for the rest of the trip!
  • I am getting pretty excited guys. One week today i will be playing my first Main Event. I am guessing i will have to last near the end of day 3 to get into the money. With 2 hour blinds and $50,000 starting stack i know I won't have to force any action.
  • I hadn't bothered to number-crunch the WSOP bigger events this year, but since The Pimp is playing, here is my 2¢ analysis schmalysis. Unlike last year, you may not be down to the 1,000 players ITM by the end of Day 3 - 2,500/5000+500. With 2/3 more chips this year, there will be a LOT of micro stacks delaying every single time it's their turn to act near the end of Day 3, desperately hoping to survive for the U$15K min-cash. If you have at least an average stack, be prepared to call clock on the habitual tankers; I was about to do this last year but there were other players in my table who were much more impatient and insta-called clock. You can have a lot more fold equity during the long bubble period, depending on the stacks.

The terrible effect of the 30% tax will be that a Canadian will get around the same amount of cash whether I am the first one out ITM at 1,000th place or finish as high as ~550th place! :o After ITM, I have to adjust my $EV-maximizing ranges whenever I'm in this *&^%$#@! "Twilight Zone" in the US. :arghh: Even if I were to finish at 478th place, my first reaction at the WSOP Cage would be, "Why the f*ck am I only getting U$1650 more cash than 1,000th place after risking over C$13,000?!" :rolleyes2:

After Toronto Pimp (or other friend) makes it to the November 9, I will fly in to Las Vegas to rail. After you win the Main Event and handed the bracelet by Joe McKeehen, please slap him for being the worst ME ambassador ever! :wink2:
I am guessing i will have to last near the end of day 3 to get into the money. With 2 hour blinds and $50,000 starting stack i know I won't have to force any action.
  • Do you think there will be more or less players than last year ???
  • There seems to be a lot less Canadians this year in Las Vegas. 15.6% of the field was paid last year, so I am surprised that there could be less chance of cashing this year, i.e., if my prediction of > 6,420 from last year becomes true.

  • That's awesome. Definitely a bucket list item.

And remember, don't cash or you'll have to pay 30% withholding tax. Aim for the bubble.

    Run good.

  • I wanna pay as much tax as possible. would be more than happy paying %100,000 to the government.
  • %100000 would be onerous

  • Returns to the Monster Stack Two Months After Conquering Cancer

Four months after surviving her second battle with breast cancer, Ruth Hall was playing in the fun Ladies Event at Binion's. With hundreds of other games available in Las Vegas, a male douchebag from Texas insists on crashing the $250 Ladies Event. :rage: Here is Ruth's post on Facebook.
Binion's Ladies 6th cash, but my focus was on Cowboy hat plastic surgeon who insisted entering a Ladies ONLY event. Attacked him with my chips, he called us "goofy bitches", warning! He went on stating he could offer to help with discounted plastic surgery, then I busted him with 95. He re-entered & insulted my roommate at her table (who is beautiful) "I've been beat by prettier women than you". Still no ejection for harassment. Yes, we busted him a 2nd time. As we clapped he gave us the finger walking out. Once a little man, always a little man Cowboy.

A bunch of other ladies I know playing in the event confirmed that he was being an asshole. Here is a photo of the &^%$#@! douchebag, whose name is Bruen Goolsby from La Vernia, Texas. He lied about being a plastic surgeon.

Finished 25th I believe as per a post on Facebook. Sick run. Nice score.

As per the surgeon entering the ladies event....what kind of a piece of sh!t do you have to be to even enter something like this, then to start berating other participants. Some people.

The enraged :rage: ladies investigated him, and found out that the douchebag even lied about being a surgeon. He is a chiropractor who has refused to go to a medical doctor for 25 years.
My roommate from LV said that H&R Block does it for $50.00.
Has Matt or anybody actually gotten the refund for $50? Most companies charge a percentage or >= $300. I got a referral to meet with a Certified Acceptance Agent for the IRS tomorrow, to get my passport certified for the ITIN and apply for a refund at cost of <= $150. If it goes as smooth as expected, I can get you an application package and give it to you at the World Cup of Cards.
  • Brian Mulroney, remember to declare your >>> $10K. I was detained by US Customs last time I played the Main Event and I would have missed my flight if it weren't for DirtArse asking an airline employee to check up on me if I had been shipped to Guantanomo Bay. :wink2: The check-in agents were waiting for me and I was the last person who made it on the plane as they immediately closed the gate behind me.

Last month, I told US Customs how much I was carrying and they asked me a bunch of questions before waiving me through. After you cash, declare again going back and count privately your exact amount. Canada Customs always directs me to the secondary inspection area to fill out forms about how much currencies I have. I became Bank of America to my busto friends needing to exchange for more U$, and I didn't have time to count how much C$ & U$ I had, so the agent counted all my big bills and filled out the form for me. They did not inspect my luggage this time.

    Good luck.
    Getting the roll together.
  • Not my first time to the rodeo.... I always declare both ways. I never mess around with the customs guys.

If i am lucky enough to make it to day two maybe you guys can do some research on my table draw for day 2.......thats if i make it.
  • .... I always declare both ways.

Sweet Jesus.......that is one delicious beer!
  • GL TP!! I will try and do reaearch if you make it thru. Love the pic!
BF..You have to ask Matt about H&R Block. He told me that in LV. Also, if you can if really appreciate a form if you can get an extra one. Thanks! I need to apply for the number as well.

TLDR: I thought of walking away from the meeting to contact the other options different friends had recommended, but signed my life away with a whole bunch of forms just to get it over with. I was planning to write an article about the &^%$#@! 30% tax, but won't find out what happens until 2017.

The meeting with the referred company was disappointing, including not telling me the cost before the meeting then trying to charge more than what they were advertising. The WSOP screwed up by putting zero tax withheld on my 1042-S form, when they actually took away more than U$4,000. :rage: The company confirmed that the IRS has been doing more audits, and the cost can be a lot higher if you are audited. H&R Block or whoever better you pay for in 2017 will tell you about paying for a certified copy of your passport.

    .

much appreciated. I am feeling pretty good and I know with 2 hour levels I really don't have to push the action but I can see a few extra flops if I can see them cheap enough.

Just really in a good state of mind to play the long days.
  • Alrighty........ So i am here with a few buddies and we got to Vegas just after 11am. I thought we would hit the pool or relax and have an amazing dinner...

    nope

they want to play in a $ 1100 satellite to get into the main. They say it will be good practice. I wanted to eat and look at half naked girls in the pool.

i end up going winning and hope day onec jgoes as goodłd
  • i end up going winning and hope day onec jgoes as goodłd

Hahah...up $8900 already....awesome!! Just think of all the half-naked girls at your side after you win the main...

    GL today!
  • I am thinking like Buddy...... Hmmmmm this is very +EV right now even if i manage to min cash. Going for a walk on the strip before breakfast ...... Then on to THE MAIN EVENT.

on a side note. Ebony Kenny was a bit of B1tch yesterday. She was on the next table over as we were 25 away from the bubble and she was short stacked. She called the boss over to complain that a guy on our table was tanking on porpose. Guy was in the tank for maybe four mins for his tournament life and he had pocket tens somit was legit to think about it. Ten mins later she got knocked out.......KARMA
