• When I was looking at Google Maps, it mentioned that the Mercier Bridge (QC-138) will be closed this weekend. According to the bridge website, both westbound lanes of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge (to the South Shore) will be closed to traffic on both weekends: from Friday, March 21th, 10 PM, to Monday, March 24th, 5 AM, and again on March 28-31. :-\

Does mikelbyl or anybody know if there is an easy alternate, or will everybody have to drive twice as long through Champlain Bridge instead?

Are you coming from the 401?
You can bypass montreal but it's a toll road, it'll get you fairly close and you don't have to drive through what's arguably the worst city in the world when it comes to road design.

edit:

Hwy 30 there's a junction right before MTL, unless you're anal about toll there's 0 reason not to use it
• What about getting there (kahnawake) from the downtown core (st cathrines)?

I'm not the king when it comes to Montreal but I think champlain will be your best bet

you do realize you were responding to the forum's official rake mizer, right?

:)

But you'd probably break even on gas so it's a decent deal !
• OK - sorry about the bridge! Obviously there's nothing we could do about it, and we were as surprised as anyone...

From the West - i.e., from Toronto on the 401/20 or Ottawa on the 417/40 - the advice was correct to come straight to Playground - take the new A30 and pay the small toll on the bridge (I think it's $0.75). Continue along A30 until you see the signs for Chateauguay/QC138 and follow that to the Club.

From Downtown, take the Champlain Bridge and follow the signs to take A30 Ouest. Follow that along for what seems to be quite a long way and exit on Industrielle. Follow Industrielle through a commercial park all the way to the QC138 and take a right at the lights - then in a few hundred meters you'll see Playground on your left.
• Right after we cross the Champlain Bridge, should we take exit 53 to merge onto Boul Marie Victorin/Autoroute 15 S toward QC-132/La Prairie/New York, or should we keep going to Autoroute 30 O?

Wat?! How can I possibly afford to stay in the Montreal castle now with pkrfce9?
• you cannot ldo
• I'm taking off now hopefully be there for 7am. See ya tomorrow for 1c
• Blondefish - that's the route. Total door to door is about 35 minutes maybe 40 compared with 25 mins. Pro tip - keep your eyes peeled for the signs to go from the 15/132 to the 30 - it can be a little obscure. It's one of those drawn-out interchanges using service roads, so if you're not careful you can peel off to the service road and end up merging back onto the original highway you just left.

An observant person who is paying attention will have 0 problems. Or if you're like me the first time I took that route, you could find yourself travelling 20 mins south towards the US border before turning around.
• OH - also I know you have your thing on Sunday at 6, but still, there's a ton of value in the $150 that's on now. We've already surpassed the guarantee on the prize pool with 2 more flights tomorrow afternoon and evening.
• OK so I just drove the route across the Champlain again and it's pretty smooth, the only thing is to be patient and follow the signs. Directly across the bridge, follow signs for 15 South. Once you get on to the 15 you will see signs that *seem* like they might be what you want (one for the Mercier Bridge & 132 for instance) but keep going to the 30 Ouest. And again on the 30 you'll see signs that you think might be good, but keep going to Industrielle.

It's a breeze, really, and there will be no traffic so no problems.
• Unfortunately for me, the 6 PM timing will make me skip the $100K Gtd (conflict with Day 2), 5 PM Event #2 & probably the 8 PM Satellite. :( Since all my friends are not coming until later in the week, I'm thinking of driving all the way back to GTA after the 6 PM tourney. I'll let somebody else on Wednesday take on the headache of driving to Montreal and around the bridge closures.

• I'll be flying in on Thursday. Which hotel would you recommend of the two on the Playground site with shuutle service?
• Bricked 1C, reg'd for 1D, bagged 90k for day 2, avg is roughly 70, $37k up top! Although still a bit from the money.
• Was your GPS able to navigate around the bridge closure?
Good luck.

46k here for day 2. tough beat right before the end yesterday... sigh. good luck today UbetIfold

BF, I heard someone say yesterday that their GPS was useless to get down there. It kept directing them to the Mercier bridge. Just follow Mike's directions, simple really, not a big deal, just takes double the time

I used my iPhone for gps, somehow it must have known the bridge was closed because it auto routed me to the Champlain bridge. Weather and traffic was really bad yesterday so it did take quite a while though to get there. All in all, for someone who doesn't do 'city' driving in general, it wasn't all that bad.

Thx racer43, best of luck to you also.
• Out in 230. I ran AA into K7 and AK for a 160k pot when the avg was 120.
.....thanks for a great tournament. Great structure, had a blast for a $150 buy in tourney.
• Just booked my flight/hotel. See you there for the Main! Looking forward to it.

I ran AJs into AA with 11 BB's, out 286th.

Agree on the great tournament. great bang for your buck.... thanks PPC
• I followed my GPS blindly to go to Playground directly, & there weren't any tolls. Playing the $90 + $10 + $5 dealer add-on Super Satellite with unlimited re-entries. After two loose players quickly busted, we've been playing 4-handed for awhile. :-(

• Min cashed event 1 made 80$ for 20 hours of poker can you say WORTH IT!! Lol it was a good tourney tho a couple of the brantford regs cashed aswell. Playing a satty at 12 tomorrow then 220$ 6 man at 7:30
• Anytime you cash in tourney is great, it also adds experience and confidence going to next tourney.

Best of luck to all Brantford regs.
• For those who are playing the Super Satellites on Wednesday to Friday nights, there is a $5 dealer add-on for 3,000 more chips. So for the $115 you spend for each unlimited re-entry, the fee is 13% (100+10+5) and starting chips is 13,000.

There were a lot of players I recognized from WPT Fallsview. At one of the tables I was playing, I think half of the faces were Fallsview refugees. There were several first-time "virgins" to Playground and they were amazed at the huge differences between how Playground and Fallsview are run. For the forum members who haven't been to Playground yet, at least play one tournament there instead of buying into a US tournament.
• I'm heading out of toronto early tuesday morning, around 2-3am, does anyone know if the bridge is still closed?
• I believe only on weekends. Is open both directions today.
• When I phoned my credit card company, they said it would depend if Playground processes the tournament buy-in as a "purchase" or as a "cash advance." Does Playground process it through The Rail like Ontario casino restaurants do so that players won't be charged the cash advance fee?

Has anybody here ever used an Options MasterCard (Canadian Tire) to buy from Playground? A tech-challenged friend can't figure out how to buy online & no longer wants to pick me up for Montreal. mikelbyl, is there any other option for my friend to reserve an entry for tomorrow's satellite?
mikelbyl wrote: »
How your credit card is charged has nothing to do with Playground, that is entirely the responsibility of your bank. Anecdotally, I have heard some people's cards have been charged as cash advances. Not everyone though, afaik.

There is a 4% fee to buy online.
• The bad beat jackpot at Playground keeps reaching all-time highs, currently over $415,000. According to a dealer, the previous record was around $275,000. There seems to be a lot of casual players who are playing the cash games to go BBJ hunting.

To the BAP investors, I plan to fire my first bullet on Friday, Day 1B, so the deadline for payment or roll-over confirmation will be at 11 AM Friday.
