2014 Playground Poker Spring Classic

Hi gang,

We've published the full schedule for the 2014 Spring Classic including the WPT Canadian Spring Championship. The festival is on from March 21 to April 1 and includes a total of 11 events.

The Main Event is a WPT National with a $1,100 buy-in and the festival also includes a $500 + $50 event as well as two short-handed (6 Max) tournaments, our popular PLO 3 Lives tourney, and a cool All In or Fold Re-entry on April 1.

Here's the schedule online including purchase links to buy your seat early and full Rules & Structure PDFs for every event:

  • Blondefish - check out the link in the previous post - hotel deals for the Spring Classic are now posted. The Residence Inn looks particularly interesting because it seems that the rooms have kitchens etc. which can be good for people who want to economize.

There's never been a question about Hotel Rustik's safety as far as I know, and it's proximity to Playground can't be beat, but it's small and not terribly luxurious and though close to the club, it's far from the other attractions of Montreal.

The new hotels we're working with are even more convenient to the highway to get to PG. They're actually pretty much ideal for the commute - from the Residence Inn you just take a left to go south on Fort and get right on the Ville-Marie (A720) from there.
  • The partypoker Mega Overlay went last weekend and with a total of 800 entries, 97 players won an entry in the $1,000 + $100 WPT Canadian Spring Championship.

In total that makes just about 130 satellite seats total that have been won in live sats. We have no word yet from partypoker about the number of online satellite seats that have been awarded.

Has anyone seen the TV ad yet? Or our banner on 2+2?
  • Which stations in Ontario? Like a lot of forumers, I use an ad blocker, but even when I turn it off for 2+2, I have not yet seen any Playground ad.

  • The TV ads are usually on the sports channels - it's the regular new Party campaign (with the new colours and promoting the achievements in their new setup) with the WPT Canadian Spring Championship tacked on the end.
  • any forumers playing this? thinking of winning a satty and flying out for the last weekend
  • That would be my plan as well
  • Maybe, it's in my plan
  • Is there anything to hold the club to the 1,000,000 Guarantee? What if Russ Hamilton poisons everyone and is the only one playing? Does he win a million? (less 3% staff)
  • Anyone know if playground charge your credit card as purchase or cash advance?
Also any fee I have to pay if I use my credit card to purchase online?
  • How your credit card is charged has nothing to do with Playground, that is entirely the responsibility of your bank. Anecdotally, I have heard some people's cards have been charged as cash advances. Not everyone though, afaik.

There is a 4% fee to buy online. What most people who are concerned about events selling out do is buy their first event online and then purchase the rest of their tickets here in person. That gives you the security of knowing you have a seat locked up in your first event while you save money on the overall buy-in. In fact that's what we recommend.

LOL the Guarantee is rock-solid - that's the meaning of the word "guarantee" after all. We've never not honoured a guarantee nor cancelled one at the last minute.

Our track record speaks for itself.
  • Thank you.
  • What (if any) is the schedule for the shuttle buses for the two hotels to the WPT CSC Main Event?

Think I read somewhere it will be running on Day 1's and day 2
  • We will be offering a shuttle service to and from each hotel on each Day 1 and Day 2 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship. The shuttles will leave one hour prior to the beginning of each day's action and return at 10:15pm.
  • What used to be a yearly trip to Montreal has now turned into over 2, but I am looking forward to being there the 21-25 of march, will be playing the 100k GTD event and whatever else comes up. Hands down my favorite venue to play in.
  • Which hotel are you staying at (PM me)? My friend won satellites to both the WPT CSC and PokerStars Canada Cup Main Events. I want to stay in a Montreal castle for at least one night, but so far cannot get three other friends or the enjoyment-challenged pokerJAH to commit.

With over 1,000 players invading Kahnawake starting next week, the hotels seem to be selling out or prices going higher. I was able to book the last two-room option in a Gay Village hotel.

  • Oh, my, god!!!! On that castle! That is something, I guess after I ship their currently $360,000+ BBJ, I suppose I could afford a night.

I was also looking in the gay district for the lol's........"not that there's anything wrong with that"

Am currently looking at places now but there doesn't seem to be much on the cheap.

    So nothing except words?
  • So nothing except words?

Pretty solid words...coming from easily a top 5 poker room in North America with a huge reputation to uphold. These guys have guaranteed all sorts of nightlies and such, adding money whenever needed.
  • Just like when FTP screwed poker players over $250,000 in the last Montreal Open, you may not have much recourse except alerting the poker community. Playground seems to have a lot of guarantees, and I have not read/heard of any cancellations, so if you ever go to Playground and try a guaranteed tournament, your chances of being screwed are much less than with FTP.
    So nothing except words?
  • Not to mention that for any sort of series event where there is any kind of moderate gtd prize pool, they usually crush the gtd anyway.
  • ez.

I offer to hold the money in escrow
  • Our word is rock solid. We offer guarantees regularly (over 300 tournaments in 2013) and have never either a) cancelled at the last minute or b) not paid out. Even when there have been snowstorms or bridge closures or whatever.

ReefAquarium if that's not good enough for you, then maybe this isn't the event for you. Though I'm not sure I've ever noticed that you made the trip, so I'm not even sure why you bothered to take the piss.

Anyhow.... for those who are going to visit - things are shaping up pretty well. We're expecting more snow tonight but also warm temperatures so we should get a major melt which will make it easier to get around than it sometimes is in the wintertime, and action at the cash tables is hot hot hot with the Primary BBJ having climbed over $380K.

I know a lot of people here don't like the BBJ, but it's definitely driving some great action at the moment, and the players it has attracted are definitely NOT jackpot nits sitting around waiting to grab a payday.

This is what he needed to see. Your reputation is good and you wouldn't risk that. The first time you don't honor your word people will make sure everyone knows. Right ftp?

I understand his concern. It is a long drive and he doesn't want to get dicked around.

  • Anybody else going this Sunday? I have to be in Playground by 6 PM for a special tournament.

There are a lot of casino players headed for Montreal for over $1 million in guarantees, but everybody I know is either going today/Friday or March 24+. I'll probably be alone driving & at the hotel on March 23 until my friends start arriving.
  • Leaving tomorrow late afternoon, coming home tues. not rolled for the actual wpt event but plan on firing 2 bullets in their 100k gtd. Should be exciting.
