Take better care of my kitties. I really don't play with them enough and more often than not, quality time is me watching tv and scratching their head/petting them every so often. I think they need a little more than that, call it a hunch.
    Catnip?
  • Stay smoke free, been almost a month now.

Lose 50lbs by next year. I used to be in fantastic shape in my youth, matter of getting back there. Joined gym and currently shit kicked and feeling it but happy about that.

Spend way less time worrying about poker industry and find energy to get back into the work that goes with my trade. Right now it feels like moving rocks from one pile to another and back again, but attitude should improve with other positive changes.

    More than enough for now.

Don't need karaoke. Just tell them they need to sing a song with the word love in it. Put the instructions in the wedding invite and everyone will come prepared.

As I said, trying for a little less traditional. Have seen the love idea at a few weddings. I like the idea of people being able to choose whatever suits their fancy.
    Catnip?

Need to get more of this.
  • 1. Quit smoking
    2. Get more exercise to both shed some pounds and to just feel better.
There are others, but these are maybe the most important 2.
  • For those with working out/losing weight on your goal list, highly recommend buying a Nike Fuel band. Me and the wife are both using and it really guilts the shit out of you or pats you on the back in a strangely highly motivating way.

Apple store best place to find.
  • Well shit. This thread died fast. Bump for updates any motivational tips.

Still smoke free, down a solid 12 pounds. Using My Fitness Pal app has been key to bieng accountable to calories in vs out.

Cardio doing 1 hour on bike trying to keep HR 135+, 3-4 x per week

Been doing toning for weights only but steadily going up 10Lbs a week on resistance. Generally 15-25 reps x 5 sets depending on muscle group.

Sitting at about 245 lbs from 260. Goal is 200 by 2014 but eventually will be adding muscle.

  • ok, as a comedian in all seriousness...

Moving somewhere warm and near the beach and finally having a 24h gym again has motivated be to get back into shape. I have been working out irregularly over the last year so I still have most of my strength, but I need to get back into doing some cardio. I hate and never do cardio indoors so I need to get into a routine of hiking/biking/swimming and maybe some intervals of running/skipping rope...I hate distance running and so do my shins.

Goal is to start working out like I did in my 20s when I had no job and could just skip classes and do nothing. Problem is that I am working 14 hours shifts so I can't get a workout in every day.

Goal is to get back to some sort of rendition of this condition circa 2000...I'm pretty sure that I can get it done in 3 months:

    7818_133337007205_797377205_2398196.jpg

I started this morning going back to low rep and high weight training (5x5s for larger muscle groups and 3x5/6s for smaller ones) and have switched back to doing 2 muscle groups a day after doing an upper body circuit of 15/10/5 reps alternating with a leg day. One problem is that I can't do squats anymore as they kill my lower back (I'm old)...I never really did heavy squats but I used to mountain bike every other day, did heavy deadlifts and leg presses, etc.

It's hard to say what my weight should be since the more I lift, the more muscle (I assume) I gain, but I could probably lose 10-15#. I have no idea what I weighed in that picture, but I'm thinking around 200# and I'm currently ~235# depending on the day. I don't think that 200# is realistic with my frame and my age/metabolism and I don't really weigh myself very often anyhow.

Back then I had a pretty strict diet and looked as food as more utilitarian than pleasurable, but over the past 10 years I have become more enamoured by all sorts of cuisines...not sure that I can go back to tuna and eggs for 3 months. Maybe some semblance or a modified low carb diet.

I live a mile from the beach and a bike trail along the beach, so if not now when? If not me, who?

  • 2nd last paragraph is my only gripe as well.

I am disciplined enough to eat the right foods now that i need to for goals, but it certainly isn't making me happy. I love sandwiches and can only do so much tuna.
  • If you were to go to a doctor and have your BMI checked, wouldn't a doctor be able to tell you what a realistic target weight would be? Factoring in age as well?

You can find (surprisingly) some pretty good seafood at Superstore in AB...snapper, scallops, halibut, salmon, trout...as a rule just bbq 3 mins a side and assess.

I know that for me once I start on a plan I find it pretty easy to stick to...it's just the getting started that is a pain.

I also think that being lazy with food (I never make food for work) is a big obstacle for me wrt diet since I generally eat 2 or more times a shift at work and they usually end up being some sort of microwave pastas.
  • For sure. Sounds like we all be happy with some meat on us at 200.

I know at my best shape and lowest BMI, on a very strict diet working out in my early 20's I could get down to 155-165 180 would be great weight but approaching 40 I am just not going to work that hard....yet

My BMI was always high due to muscle even when I was in great shape -- I don't think that is a good measure for all people. Body fat %age would likely be better. However, I just need to get out and do more training...I don't really need #s to motivate me.
  • That's more what I was getting at too.
  • While we're at revisiting goals threads of 2013, this one came to mind.
  • Funny, was thinking about posting again. Still smoke free, couple more months to hit 1 year. Mid March was at my low for the year, the started holidaying and put on 35lbs. Almost back to that low though ~ 5 lbs and much more dedicated now that I may have type 2 diabetes, though I might still have a shot at getting it into pre stages. Was working on weight before I found out.

Have made big diet changes and enjoying it, I'm all or nothing...if I can't overindulge, I'd rather go without.

Strenght wise, definitely at a high and should be able to bench body weight within a few months. Cardio keep cranking up tension.

Let's see if I can stay on track, 5 weeks in, putting about 10 hours a week in. Goal is 200 or 220 if stacked.

Also with the Type 2, big eye opener...I've been overweight less than 10 years and obese for only half that, don't take long to trigger if I have. (Get tolerance test back in a weekish)

This is how I am with junk food of ALL types. If it is in the house, it does not last. Bag of cookies? Two days, MAX . . . chips? One night, tops. but I can go weeks without either one, so long as they are nowhere to be found.

I should probably lose about 30-50 lbs. I am never going to be the 195 that the BMI charts say I should be. when I stopped working out I was 270 lbs. with a body fat of ~ 8-10%. The weight is probably close to that, but the % is likely MUCH higher.

AJ's passing has had me thinking that I need to make some changes.

Ditto. I need to change my habits too, been over weight far too long. I don't have a lot of money to spend, I wonder if my Doctor can refer me to a dietician to have it covered by OHIP.
I just need a meal plan that I will enjoy eating that will also cut down on my caloric intake.

How are you for broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower & cucumbers?

Last time around I never tried this but steaming them with some Mrs Dash is great or light vinager. Mini cukes just eating as is.

I'm loving it as you can have cups & cups with very little calories so using as side instead of rice or pasta with a lean meat, even trying different fish with bit of oil on BBQ. Costco has some fairly lean pork loin chunk for cheap, broccoli and cukes are about $5 for heaps. Bananas liking for sweet too.

Tuna & cottage cheese with chives is another protein fix loving, no white bread for me anymore though.

Those are my favorites if it helps. Usually coming in at 1300-1700 calories a day on this but eating enough to be full.

There in lies the problem. Brussel sprouts, cauliflower and broccolil are like eating grass to me. I have never liked the taste of them. Cottage cheese isn't good either.

I don't mind lean meats, fish, fruits are good. As for veggies, carrots, peas, grean beans, corn, yellow beans, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, celery.

then its knowing how to put it together to take to work to cover two meals and being able to make it up ahead of time (2-3 days in advance)

Did you quit cold turkey, or did you have any help? (patch, pills, or gum). I was going to try Chantex, but my drug plan wouldn't cover it.

I didn't quit cold turkey. I used a e-cig/vaporizer I bought in Vegas a few years back that had nicotine for driving and other high habit times. Gradually used it less over course of a month then stopped all together. I had some decent attempts prior to that with Nicorette inhaler. Each time was able to stop longer.

I was really motivated this time though. People always say think of the money I am saving, I say fuck that; I'll pay to do what I like. It was about health and more so not being a slave to the stick for traveling. I didn't want to ruin a family vacation because I didn't have enough time between connectors to smoke
  • Ps. I will say (and I am sure others can add support)
That the first week was rough, but I "napped it off" a lot. The first few months after that, I was fine, save the odd STRONG craving out of nowhere but don't kid yourself into a "treat" or "stress" cigar or smoke (this got me several times before)

Now, despite having been an enthusiastic smoker for 20+ years, I don't think about it or even really remember, which was quite surprising after the first few months where I would start heading outside on a break or somet random trigger.

Champix and Zyban should both be covered for one quit attempt per year by OHIP if I'm not mistaken. When did you last try to get a prescription for it?
  • Some pretty nasty potential side effects with Champix, iirc. Perhaps not as nasty as Cancer, but maybe.

I tried over a year ago, Through my work benifets, (Greay West Life).
