You're welcome. Mohawk lets you pre-pay for your seat before the day but you have to go there. See my Tournament & Casino Guide for Ontario for the contact info & hours.
Thanks for posting. I'll probably play that one. If I have a player's card from Woodbine, do I need to make a new card? Also, is there a way to pre-register?
The great news for members like BIGBOB, Gottaget, EdtheTed, djgolfcan, etc. is that Mohawk is starting to experiment with my suggestion of having a Deep Stack tournament with a bigger prize pool while keeping the fee the same $10. This Saturday's tournament will be a $150+$10 Deep Stack with only 6% fee.
Thanks for this very helpful info. I'm going to plan on making this one!
These $220+$10 at Western/Woodbine, $150+$10 at Mohawk, and new $110+$10 bimonthly at Georgian Downs are probably the best tournaments with only $10 fee in the entire world!
I'm trying to call these people and can't get through to them. If I head down around 2-2:30, should I be able to get a seat?
That would probably be good enough. I'm intending to arrive an hour early. This is frustrating since at other casinos (Lac Leamy, Brantford) you can phone ahead and pay to reserve a seat.
Not much to report. Horrendous players. I had top set cracked by a gutshot on the river and then lost a flip to bust. I actually don't think I won a single hand. But yeah. Absolutely terrible players. It was kind of tilting. I hate not being able to use music to drown out table chatter.
Yeah, players were not so good, but that is not a bad thing. But at points it was certainly "no foldem holdem". However, I got no cards and my pocket queens ran into pocket Aces and that was that.
It is a "deepstack" because you start with 15,000 instead of the regular 10,000 (for $100 buy in), but few players properly sized their bets in relation to the blinds, so most pots are pretty large even in the opening rounds. It was kind of like when you play in a $1 and $2 ring game but the raises are to $15 or more. So it certainly didn't feel like a deepstack even though we were getting more than two rounds per blind level with the electronic dealer and enforced time restrictions on betting.
I was there 50 min early and it was easy to get a seat. But by the time it started about 6 people had been turned away so if they invested in another table they could have had at least 26 people playing, probably more.
The guy who manages the 'room' (who is quite personable) said they might even try a $220 tournament for just the $10 fee which is a good deal. I believe they are running this deepstack the first Saturday of each month and the other Saturdays are the $100 tournament.
IMO, considering how the quality of play introduces more variance, I think I'd rather play the regular $100 tournament. Anyway, it was fun and I will go again.

I may play also if my RFS doesn't run. I may have a fighting chance with BF and BigBob not there.
