  • Based on my own highly speculative formula I believe that, if FTP rises from the ashes, I will have approximately enough $$$ on the new site to pay for a buy-in to a Forum Home Game tournament.
  • I'm curious, if the site does reopen and they're say one million dollar short on player funds, how long would it take them to make up for that in rake if you assume something like a 50% loss in traffic

just feels like if they could get going it wouldn't take too long for them to get back to where they should be in banked funds
  • I would be willing to bet that, with a 25% drop in players, the "new" site would be profitable by year's end.

    thats a valid point

what do you think the cost is in operating a massive site?
  • Wow.. Thank goodness I didn't bid in that...

Look, don't know who you are and you haven't posted any spam that I can see so far, but looking through all your posts, they are all the same. Lacking revelance and content. Either participate properly or bye bye...

  • So like, what does this mean in the big picture?

Will FTP and stars accounts be linked togerther (we can swap freely to our accounts on both sites)?

Will FTP have a new relaunch so we all have to sign up, agree to new TOS, new screen names?

Will FTP still have rake back? will they go to a VIP program like stars?

Im way to pumped for a merge if that happens, there will be a major series with huge guarantess all the time, with SCOOP, WCOOP, TCOOP, MicroMillions, FTOPS, MiniFTOPS, there will be year round awesomeness.

This is so good for the community if it goes through, im so excited, it would be a huge letdown if this is all rumors lol

Pokerstars is such a beast lol
  • Pay everyone back and shut down the site. I don't see the point of having stars operating 2 sites when any sort of "proprietary" FTP software/bonuses/tourney series can be easily transferred into Stars.

That's like operating a two tim horton's and naming one tom horton but serving the exact same coffee. What's the difference. Maybe I am ignorant but in cyberspace there is no sense having two poker sites operating under one mgmt team.

The same players will be on both sites. The only advantage I could see would be if they pushed one to be accessible for US players once US legislation wakes up but then again Stars has a much better reputation and isn't tarnished in the eyes of the average joe.
  • This is either a soul read or stacking off to villains quads with ace high. The flip side is if just a rumor, this is very bad news.

I couldnt disagree with this post more.

FTP was a marketing giant, they attracted players all over the world but PRIMARILY THE US, not to mention IMO their software is better, mtt/sng game selection is better and runs more, they offer rake back, and notoriously have all the nosebleed action for the rail birds.

So while its true there will be many of the same people on both sites, they offered different things, and the site appealed to different people.

Having both sites is great for the poker community as a whole, I don't see how anyone could argue this; the more money there is in the poker community, the better it is for everyone.

I can't see how it could be a rumour IMHO. Stars is the biggest player in the online poker market, and if there is no truth to it, they would've come out by now and denied the rumours. To me, the fact that it's been 12+ hours since the rumour and Stars have done nothing to deny it, shows me that there is some truth to it.
  • Agree 100%. Made same arguments all day. All I am saying is if this some how doesn't work, this shit is over.

Personally this morning, I thought they would just buy and burn FTP. But starting to see a few reasons why they would keep.
  • It would be great news that the FTP players that were defrauded by Bitar, Lederer, Ferguson et al would get their money back, but horrible news if the #2 company is bought up by the biggest company. Having such a dominant market share controlled by one person (Isai Scheinberg) is very unhealthy.

Having FTP as a competitor innovating with Rush Poker, 27%+ rakeback, Iron Man, etc. was good for players, but now PokerStars will be able to do whatever they want in the online poker world. It would be like Apple merging with Google, then companies like Research in Motion would be unable to compete and survive.

It's been rumored that Isai would be stepping down btw.
  • Has anybody heard if the $750 million bribe to the US DOJ will include dropping charges against Scheinberg, Bitar and the other alleged criminals?

That's the rumor, and why the price tag is so high. Isai is currently safe if he stays in the Isle of Man, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind being able to travel without worry.
