  • Also, counting our host, there were at least 5 Forum members at the Final Table, with yours truly the first to fall.

Blinds 300-600 with 75 ante. Raise from MP to 1800, 1 caller, I call from the BB with Q-10h. I have 6675 behind, and comtemplated shoving.
Get my dream flop of Q-10-X rainbow and shove my 6675 into the pot. Called by PF raiser with K-Qo, turn is a 9, river a K, gg Milo.
  • Good tourni....thanks...c u next time!
  • Points well taken Wetts!
I did ask if it was OK and no nay sayers but it is putting people on the spot.

    Daniel 1st
    JBird 2nd
    Allan 3rd
    Rodney 4th

Total 25 out of 40 showed.
Most likely I will have a smaller number as max. 27 is a good number.
Thanks to all that came out today.

Milo yes I did suck out on the river, both good hands.

Heading to bed now, I had 3 hours sleep last night because I was the DJ and never got home till 5am.

    Cheers Rodney

Structure was really good, a couple points possibly:

    1) If you're going to take a chop from the pot for a tournament of champions this should have been included in the original posting.

    2) If you're going to pay dealers out of the pot, and not from the $10 fee, those dealers should have to deal even after they bust, until the tables break.

    Will be playing again.

I agree with both points and was actually coming on to specifically comment on the second point. I'm cool with playing by house rules and won't make a big fuss about these things but, especially when money's being taken out of the prize pool, it should be made clear from the beginning.

That being said, yeah, the food was great and the structure allowed for a good amount of play. A few suggestions from my home games that I used to play in Calgary:

    1) Have you tried the Tournament Director software before? Small fee but makes for running the tournament a lot smoother and much easier for you as the host. You can set how many max players to put at each table and it'll automatically seat and reseat players as they bust and tables break. It'll come up with payouts that you can adjust manually. Really great software. All the hosts in the games I played used it. A lot of casinos use the same software as well.

    The Tournament Director

    2) The food break was really nice but no one seemed to know how long the break was going to go on for. I'd maybe suggest setting a set break time of x minutes so people would know if they have time to run and grab a coffee or something. Tournament Director lets you plug in break levels. I'm really super high on that program.

    3) Some of the hosts I used to play with implemented a bonus of x amount of chips for people that showed up and registered on time. Helps with getting the game started a little quicker. I'm not a big fan of this (as I'm usually late) but I do think the tournament should start within ten minutes or so of when it's scheduled. Just blind out the late comers.

    4) I personally prefer having people take turns dealing and leaving the dealer payouts in the prize pool. The way we'd do it is, have two decks at each table with the button dealing and cutoff shuffling the second deck. After the hand is over, cutoff would pass their deck to the new button who would cut and deal.

Those are just some of the things I liked about my games back home. I think tournament director allows like a 30 day preview or something. Try it out and see if you like it.

I had a great time and I'd play again too. Thanks for hosting! I know it's a lot of work to run one of these things.

Or you can get the serial # and get it for free :-P
  • Fun Game fellas. I definitely think 2nd place and 1st place deserved that win. From the small sample size I witnessed at the final table Daniel seemed to play perfect poker. Jbird played really well with very few mistakes. Well played guys.

Ain't no joke. Cape Bretoner's ARE Newfies with the shit kicked out of them!

Fuck me how does it get left to me to comment on this?

I suppose you are saying that Newfies are full of shit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda surprised it took this long for someone to comment as well. And yes, most Newfies are full of shit...its what causes the smell.

About the game...well run, and I can't comment much on whatever else has said. I would suggest using a 2 deck system though, get more hands per blind and just runs so much smoother.

Couldn't get much going during my stay. Think I only won two hands. Got crippled when my trip deuces got called with a Khigh flush draw on the flop and the river took me down. With less than 10bb left, I pushed any two decent cards I could get dealt, finally losing it Jason when my A5 couldn't pair up on his AJ.

    Good game, will return.
  • Good game indeed, thanks for hosting Rodney! I also agree with the points wetts made, and the two system AJ suggested works really well.
  • Thanks for the ones that showed, it sucked being the bubble boy.
Nice check on the 2 pair JBird on the flop. lol
  • Count me in to your next tourney if there is space available.
  • Good game guys and thanks for hosting a great tournament!

I agree with my fellow players that a few of the suggested changes will make for a better tournament. Most home tournaments around here are run like that hiphopopotamus suggested but that being said I do like having dedicated dealers with a larger field.

Thanks again and I'll definitely be out for more.
  • Had my Newfie best man here today from Cornerbrook.
Been like years since I saw him. Best accent I heard in a while lol.

Changes are posted on Meetup.com. Please register on the site. Its easier for me.

Sundays tourney I am only taking 30, I can fit more but need to keep it comfortable and don't want to clog up the street worse then it was. For the ones that like to walk park at Timmys and walk 2 minutes. lol Just a suggestion not telling you too!

    Rodney
  • Hey Rodney, just want to point out I was not a noshow, I had said I was iffy and texted you Sunday morning to say I wouldn't make it.
  • No No of course, I am kinda glad everyone didn't show.
The number that showed was perfect.
