Dragon's den

Love this show.

So, I'm watching tonight, and a guy is on with a modified version of Black-Jack. And now I'm wondering, would anybody go for this?

Basically, you play Black-Jack, but with side bets, to whit:
a single bet ($5, $10, whatever) on whether you beat the dealer, plus
a side bet on whether or not you bust, plus
a side bet for a specific total achieved, plus
a side bet for hitting Black-Jack.
I think I'm missing one other option . . .
Side bets are optional, so you can go for up to 5 (4? idk) separate bets on any given hand.

Would any of you degens go for something like this? His pitch was that casinos would lap it up because it increased there take over and above what a standard Black-Jack table would earn.

  • i love this show too!

ya i watched also, no i would not, but i do think some casinos will.
  • The dude must be clueless. They already have something similar where you side bet on all black/red, making pairs, over/under 13 and other bad -ev things. My father plays this crap all the time, but of course he splits 10s and other stupid shit which we beg him not to do.

What possible need for money would this dude need from the Dragons?

Blackjack Games - Blackjack Game Variations - Blackjack Variants
  • Love the show as well, very entertaining and informative for the startups.

I think this FortuneTellerBlackjack will actually do okay in most casinos. Its designed to suck out that last buck or two from players and that's waht casinos want the most. The odds are definitely in the house's favour on the sidebetting, and I'm sure the addicts will love it straight to the poorhouse.

At $1000/month royalty per table, he could make a hell of a lot of money on this. The deal he made though was a bit restrictive imo, didn't think he needed that much to get it up and going, but he wanted to quit his day job and still have a solid income while he went out selling the product. Not much of a risk taker for an entrepenuer if you ask me.
  • well windsor just laid off 120 workers, so he is not that stupid.
  • Googled it and it won an award as best new game at a show in Vegas in August. So I think he has a winner.
  • I think the game sounds pretty -ev from a player perspective and I try to play games with a better player edge, but I am sure if I was in a drunken stupor I would probably try it out. To me it seems like playing one of those wheel games where they you can bet on the $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 bill.

I also love this show and the shark tank one too :)
  • Kevin is da best. Robert is pretty good too. I guess that's why they're on both shows.

    FortuneTellerBJ eh? :D

But don't you find the folowing holds true:

British version >> Canadian version >> American version.

I have seen all three, and think that the CBC's adaptation is better than ABC's, but that the BBC version is slightly better. Happens with so many different shows, that it makes you wonder . . .

Also, Kevin O'Leary is getting a daily show with CBC (5:00 p.m.). A business-oriented "debate" set-up. Starts with the revamp of Newsworld . . .

I haven't watched enough of the British version to be honest, and have probably seen about the same number of US and Canadian episodes. I think Kevin really makes the show. He is hilarious and since he is on both I kind of see them pretty similar. I need to watch more of each to determine which I like better I think.
  • so thoughts on last night episode?

    rofl
  • Yeah. The BBC version is better. Sometimes they fight each other over the deal and under cut. The CBC version, with O'leary on there, they always try to hustle the good ideas into a terrible deal. Also, the CBC version, its so bait with the deal at the end of the episode. Where is the element of surprise. Brutal production.

Haha, ya I know what you mean. Sometimes when they give the preview of "What is coming up when they get back from commercial" they show the people shaking hands giving away the fact that they made a deal. That is pretty silly.
  • It would take the money from people too quickly, so that they don't get hooked on the game. It could be bad for blackjack profits in the long term. Sort of like the way Big 6/8 in craps is unbalanced.
  • wow scratch lab dj school was on, i was looking at their course at one time, but as soon as they asked for 50k i knew they were not going to do well.
  • They were idiots. Here are the Dragons TELLING them how to make oodles of cash doing NO work (relatively speaking), and they're saying, "We want to focus on our core business".

MORONS, THIS SHOULD BE YOUR CORE BUSINESS . . .
  • ya, but they stayed with morals and decided not to rape their students, but babba kahn rapes the club owner by taking 2% of the house charges, lol so ya a lil confused on that 1.
  • I like this show too but Kevin is a jackass. He may have made a lot of money but he is rude. Maybe he's just that way for the show, I don't know.

It was funny when Ms. Lube went on there and Jim was like, "I can't say anything. My lawyers will be in touch." Time to start thinking of a new name, lady.
  • just see the older couple, she is going to let him mortgage the house, what the beeeeeeep, How do these people not see it is a bad idea, it is scary and also sad.
  • whoa that last dude was weird!!!! but 2 dragons just gave him money.

Next weeks looks juicy as well:)
  • that idea is so bad
definately don't let him mortgage his house
  • 5K from Brett and 500 from Uncle Kevin

    more boobies next week
any one have a $20 for Jim? :D
  • I really don't understand how much $ people invest in their "ideas" and how stupid friends and family are but not telling them the truth.

Some of these guys are spending 6 figures to put together websites!

  • holy wack jobs!
