OLG Casino Brantford 2009 Tournaments
There will be a total of nineteen No Limit Hold'em tournaments at OLG Casino Brantford from January to March, 2009. They all start at 10 AM, every Thursday and every other Monday.
There is a maximum of only fifty players. Top five make it to the money. Registration will be available up to four weeks prior to the start of each tournament. All the tournaments sold out last year, so you will probably have to buy your seat at the casino at least the day before.
Thursday Freezeouts
The blind structure is the same as last year's $100 freezeouts, i.e.
- 2500 starting chips
- 20-minute rounds
- 25/25, 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 15-minute break, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, 800/1600, 1000/2000, etc. with no antes.
- Patience Factor = 5.7, Skill Level = 3.
$100 on January 15 & 29; February 12 & 26; March 12 & 26.
- Includes $15 administration fee, or 15%.
- Maximum prize pool: $4,250.
$200 on January 8 & 22; February 5 & 19; March 5 & 19.
- Includes $25 administration fee or 12.5%.
- Maximum prize pool: $8,750.
- Even though this event is twice as expensive as the $100 event, you don't get any more play.
Ladies Night
- Every Thursday 6-10 PM until February 26
- $25 poker tournament for up to 20 ladies.
- 7:15 PM and registration starts at 5 PM.
- Free T-shirt for the first 200 ladies, 25 instant weekly prizes, plus $3,000 in prizes.
Monday "Morning Mayhem"
$400 Freezeout on January 26 and February 23.
- Includes $30 administration fee or 7.5%.
- Maximum prize pool: $18,500.
- 5000 starting chips.
- Patience Factor = 9, Skill Level = 5.
$800 Freezeout on March 30.
- Includes $65 administration fee or 8.1%. The rake actually increases with the higher buy-in! ???
- Maximum prize pool: $36,750.
- 5000 chips, 30-minute rounds, Skill Level = 6.
$140 Bounty Tournament on January 12.
- Includes a $25 bounty and administration fee of $15 or 10.7%.
- Maximum prize pool: $6,250.
- Same blind structure as Thursday, i.e., 2500 chips, Patience Factor = 5.7, Skill Level = 3.
$100+ Rebuy Tournament on February 9 and March 23.
- Includes $20 administration fee, or ~7.7% assuming 2 rebuys and an add-on for a total cost of $260. The $100 buy-in makes a lot more sense than $200, given the turbo blind schedule.
- 2000 starting chips.
- Unlimited $40 rebuys for 1000 chips during first four rounds if under 2000 chips. Since it cost $80 (excluding $20 fee) to get 2000 chips, getting 1000 or 50% of the starting stack for 50% of the buy-in is an improvement over last year when it cost you more than 50% of the $175 buy-in to rebuy 50% of the starting stack.
- One optional $80 add-on for 4000 chips. This is also an improvement over last year by making the add-on the same cost as the $80 buy-in.
- Same bad blind schedule as last year: 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, then 15-minute break after the rebuys. It doesn't make sense to accelerate the blinds just because it's a rebuy touirnament, i.e., removing the 25/25 and 75/150 levels.
- Patience Factor = 5.97, Skill Level = 3.
- Bottom line: I love rebuy tournaments so with the improvements despite the blind schedule, I plan to play.
Conclusion: Casino Brantford is offering decent and affordable tournaments. The $100 freezeouts are good for those with a small bankroll and are much better than playing in an illegal club with undercover OPP. The $400 and $800 events are great for those who have the bankroll to play for bigger prize pools.
P.S. If there are any questions, ask compuease! By the way, somebody owes me popcorn!

Comments
I might try to make it to one or two of the $400/$800 events.
Can we register by phone with a CC or does it have to be in person?
What ID etc. do I need to provide, or can I just give them the $$$ and a name?
If I don't need to show ID, Starting in Feb, I would be interested in helping out some forumers by fronting the cost of the tourney (for a day or 2) to save them coming all the way into Brantford. Don't want any handling fees, just the original buy-in. PM me if you are interested... I do reserve the right to refuse (but I'll be upfront about it) if I have any hesitation or reservations...
When did this change? I remember doing a phone registration for the UPC a couple of years back.
I would love this as it would have saved me a drive in the shitty ass snow today, 90 mins there from kw
didnt even have anything i wanted to play...i fckn hate limit
They're going to make it as hard as possible for you to register someone else. Perhaps if you had all their ID, a DNA sample and a live iPhone video chat going.
Wonder why this is.. As evidenced by the number of people who showed up to todays tourney, you'd think they'd want as many players as possible and would be as accomodating as possible to get the $$$ into the prizepool/rake.
were you there today?
Yeah, I couldn't play but I was trying to meet Blondefish to give him some money to cover a chip acquisition when he goes away..
Didn't see him though, left at 9:58....
It is not wise to chance it; last week I called Wednesday at 1am and they had 24 seats left. I got there at 9:15am and they were sold out.
I even offered to buy a seat at full price and give someone 25% but couldnt get a taker.
At least I registered for Monday before I left.
What does it mean to say Ladies Night at the cash tables?

You can call ahead and register for the tournaments now with your credit card.
Sorry I missed you there. I was happily surprised that they got close to four tables for the tournament. The blind structure is not great, but I was glad I went. I will definitely be there for the tournament in June.
Hi, sorry I just saw your post. I saw you from a distance but we never met up. It is good practice playing with the girls but I prefer the mixed tournies. I will go to the next ladies. I try to play every Thursday and cashed in the $200 Freeze Out yesterday.
Wes,
I am planning to play in this Thursday's tournament. If you want to carpool, let me know.
