  • Well, if they're going to get your chips, making them do it with quads is a fair price. Keep after 'em Mike.

Least he's away from Hellmuth and Ivey. But, sadly, no Tilly to ogle either

Blair Hinkle vs. Mike "SirWatts" Watson
After a flop of K108, Blair Hinkle checks from the small blind, Mike "SirWatts" Watson bets 76,000 under the gun, Hinkle raises to 180,000, and Watson calls. The turn card is the J, Hinkle bets 200,000, and Watson thinks for a while before calling. There is over 800,000 in the pot.

The river card is the 5, and Hinkle bets 400,000, leaving himself just 200,000 behind. Watson goes into the tank for about five minutes before he folds, and Hinkle takes the pot.

Watson is still strong with 977,000, while Hinkle builds his stack to more than 1.4 million.
  • That was an interesting hand. I've had debates with decent players that they will fold A-K in situations like this because they don't want to risk losing 30% of their stack. Hopefully, SirWatts will discuss this and other hands in this forum after he takes it down.

Good luck to SirWatts. Keep making these correct $EV-maximizing decisions and go for the win!

I don't think it's all that interesting.... I had the nuts so I instacalled. No idea what he's open shoving 20xBB with it's probably not garbage but it's probably not AA or KK either. Give him 500K I guess I could consider folding.
  • Good luck Mike I"ve been following at work and cheering for you. For the love of God I hope your the one to take out Hellmuth I think that would be great :)
  • It's by reading stuff like this that I see I'm on another lvl of poker (like... I suck..) I'd never fold AK in that position with that flp and I guess I'd go broke most of the time :(

but hey... you learn you live :)

    Chip Count Update
Only 19 players currently remain with an average stack of exactly 700,000. All chip counts have just been updated so please refer to the chip counts tab for more info.

    Leaderboard
    1. Phil Ivey - 1,470,000
    2. Mike Watson - 1,420,000
    3. Phil Hellmuth - 1,265,000
    4. Blair Hinkle - 1,200,000
    5. Nam Le - 1,080,000

    Fantastic!!!

The "Phil" sandwich. A poker player's dream!
  • No intimidation there! Just tell them you're a Newfoundlander and start trash talking in your native language!!! By the time they figure what that hell that means, you'll have all their chips ;)
  • Mike looks to be on a pretty low stacked table for the start today. All the big stacks are on table two...random table drawing, this should make an interesting start to the game today

    1. Nam Le - 1,254,000
    2. Theo Tran - 410,000
    3. Mike "SirWatts" Watson - 987,000
    4. Charles Moore - 921,000
    5. Quinn Do - 285,000
    6. Wei Kai Chang - 751,000
    7. Jennifer Tilly - 417,000
    8. Brian Taylor - 228,000
    9. Yury Parad - 214,000
  • At least Nam Le is to his right...and having a chip farm at the table like Tilly doesn't hurt either.
  • With all those short stacks at the table though, you know it'll be a bingo to start out.

With the blinds at 8K/16K/2K the FT should be formed very quickly!

    FEAR THE BEAVER!

This thread is way too cheerful, ;) so I'll disagree with two of my favourite forumers above. The cost per round is currently 42,000. Everybody has an M over 5, so nobody is in the all-in Red Zone yet.

With 16th-18th place getting the same amount of $48,840, the shortest stacks will tend to be the most aggressive until there are 16 players left, when there will be another bubble situation for the next prize level of $55,220 (13th-15th place). The biggest stacks such as Nam Le and SirWatts in table 1 will tend to put heavy pressure on the shorter stacks.

When the blinds go up in around 15 minutes to Level 21 (10/20K + 3K), the CPR becomes 57,000. This is the level when the ~5 stacks below $300K will be going all-in.

Other bubble situations will occur with 13 left, then at 7 for the TV final table. On the bubble, the short and medium stacks will tend to play tight, hoping to survive to the next level unless they get a premium hand. It will take many, many hours to get to the final table of 6, possibly past midnight our time.

SirWatts is in a great situation, with all shorter stacks to his left including Tilly, while Le is to his right. When Tilly is on the big blind, a standard play would be a first-to-the-pot raise to isolate her, then she may fold a full house again. :) SirWatts is in great position to accumulate chips, before it becomes one table of nine, then it will be time to
    KILL PHIL!!!
  • I won't disagree with your pre game analysis, Buddy...you are alot more experienced at these levels than I can hope to be. I'm thinking that the big stacks are going to apply pressure, but they're also going to have to watch when one of them jumps in with a hand. After all, 5M's is border line.

Watts is indeed in excellent position. I'm sure he'll make his moves stragetically (?) and capitalize on the shorter stacks not wanting to bust out too soon.

BTW, has Mike ever made a tv bubble before? Just curious.
  • Watts, I hope you have a cool shirt for the final table; too bad the pokerforum.ca jerseys are not available yet.

First time ever he has made the money in a $5K+ buy-in event.
