Brantford Ultimate Poker Challenge Reg. OPEN!

For those unaware, as I was, the registration is open for the fall Ultimate Poker Challenge. There haven't been any ads yet, so unless you have been to the Brantford Poker room recently you would not know.

The events are as follows :

October 1st - $500 NL FREEZEOUT - 100 player max.
(only 20 registered as of Saturday afternoon)

October 2nd - $1,000 FREEZEOUT - 100 player max

October 3rd-6th - $2,000 FREEZEOUT Main Event - 100 players per day (3,4,5)
Final Day -Sat. October 6th

All days (except Sat.) start at 6pm

Nice structure. 5,000 in starting chips, $25/$25 starting blinds

SNG Satellites are by demand & there is also a daily multi sat. (rebuy)

I don't know all of the info, but this should be a good start.

  • Thanks for the info. If you find out any more info about the satellites (fee, time, structure), let us know.
  • Satellites will probably be the same as before. 6 days a week, 10am start, $50 buy-in with rebuys.

Only change I noticed from their Spring tournament is that the main event is now $2000 instead of $1500.
  • Thanks for the information. I had just talked to Casino Brantford last week about a couple of things, but was not told about the upcoming Ultimate Poker Challenge.

I'm surprised that the buy-in was increased to $2,000, since the $1,500 tournaments at the Brantford Spring Classic I played in did not sell out. Many Ontario players may be focused instead on the WPT tournament at Fallsview Casino in the same month.

Nevertheless, the best-value casino tournaments (Skill Level 6 :) ) and MTT satellites in Ontario are currently in Brantford. Assuming I am still eligible to play in Casino Brantford in October, I plan to play again in the MTT satellites and tournaments. Due to a lot of players last time defaulting on their small deposit for a seat reservation, you now have to deposit at least $500. I was told that the MTT satellites will not have a set 10 AM starting time like the last time, but may start later (or earlier) depending if there is enough interest.

Anybody interested in rake-free home game satellites for the $500 or other tournaments?

  • i can't find any information on this tournament anywhere. i'm really interested in playing the $500 buy-in event (probably through a satellite). if anyone gets any more info please post it here. i'll probably call the casino and see if i can find out more. i definitely want to know the satellite buy-in and structure etc.
  • I don't think that there is a sat for the $500 event. I called yesterday and they had only mention the 1k and 2k events.

I am heading down tonight to play one of the S&G's and should be able to provide some additional information.

Hey Blondefish, any advice on playing the S&G structures in Brantford?

The MTTs are Sun - Thursday 10am

Get a decent hand, shove, and pray...

Honestly, you are better off playing their MTT satellites. Less of a crap-shoot.

Not much interest the s&G tonight, only 5 on the list.
Oh well, played some 2/5 and won $43 (my favourite calling stn was playing) in 1.5 hrs...lol

I'm going to try and make it down for the MTT on sunday.

Yes, I have advice on playing any tournaments with a crapshoot structure - DON'T!
Assuming that the single-table satellite structure is the same as the past two events, the Patience Factor is only 1.7, the Skill Level is 1, and the rake is as high as 12%. Crapshoots are best for unskilled players who just want to gamboool their money away.

Their multi-table rebuy satellites are much better with a Patience Factor of 5.7, an initial buy-in of only $50, and a total rake of only ~3%. Waltsfriend, The_Game, Animaux, Bobby and I all won main event seats through the MTT satellites, so I'm surprised few other forumers tried to win a seat.
  • Is there a MTT this sunday at 10 am? If so, what time do you need to be there to give yourself a good chance to get in the game. Is it capped at a certain number of players, and if so, how many.

    Thanks

    Alistair
  • My GUESS is that if you are there by 9:50 AM along with at least nine other paid players, then the satellite can be held. The maximum was fifty players last spring, which was only reached once when I played. Your best bet is to phone Casino Brantford for the up-to-date details, then post their answers.

  • OK - I called the room and asked about sats feeding the 2k event. He said they run single table sats whenever they get 10 players to pony up the $220 + admin fee. He also said the multi-tables run at 10 am sunday to thursday, and they have been averaging about 25 to 30 players for these. They are $50 + admin, plus unlimited rebuys. If there is not enough money to feed a tournament entry, they just give out cash in $250 blocks (whatever that means).

So, unless I am too hung over from watching UFC and playing cards, I'm going to hit up Brantford on Sunday morning...

    Alistair
  • So I guess they don't have any later MTTs running. 10am is much too early for me...plus last time I played a rebuy tournament, it was all-in every other hand.
  • does anyone know how much the MTT satellite buy-ins are for each tournament? also, does anyone know for sure whether they're rebuys or not? from what i've heard so far i'm leaning towards playing the $50 MTT satellite this sunday.

sorry. already been answered. i just missed the post :P
  • They are running their 10am MTT satellites Sunday - Thursday from now until the week of September 16th when they will be running them daily. They are also running MTT on Monday September 17 and 24 at 5pm

Just a heads up for those who wanted to go and satellite into the ME.
  • Has anyone asked recently how the registrations are going for the various events?

I played a $110+admin fee ($10) sat. to the $1k event without knowing just how bad the structure is. I'm not sure if the $220 satellite has the same structure as the $110 satellite.

    Anyway, here goes:
    1) 10 players start with T1000
    2) Levels are 15 minutes each
    3) Blinds are 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000
    4) Top place is a $1k lammer, 2nd place is $100 (covers most of buy-in)

    RIDICULOUS!

There were 3 players eliminated in the first 5 hands of the satellite. I can't really blame the plays as one player was eliminated on the flop with TP2K vs. AA...another was JJ vs. AQ all-in PF, the 3rd wasn't a race/cold-deck, but just bad play.

I managed to steal some small pots without a flop and win a race situation with a huge overlay (e.g. 6 players, blinds are 100/200, I raise 700 UTG with 66, button with 850 goes all-in with AQo), an all-in situation where I am dominating, and a A2s vs 33 suckout (I was BB and had to call a desperate push by the button with a M of ~3).

So, it's heads up and the blinds are 200/400 and we each have ~5k in chips. If you make it this far, it's actually really decent, since there is some play in the HU match. My opponent didn't play aggressively enough in HU, so I chipped him away until I was a 3-1 favorite and managed to win a race with KJo vs 77.

If I knew how bad the structure was, I probably wouldn't have played...

I will probably try and qualify for the $2k event through the Monday MTTs.

Hmmm...I bet I've played with a bunch of the posters on this forum...I am a semi-regular at the $20/40 (usually coming 3-4x / month)...late 20's white male with glasses & an engineering ring. I usually play Sat/Sun afternoon/evening. I won the satellite on Sun, Aug. 26 around ~11pm...I'm interested in meeting some of you (but not THAT interested) and chatting about games/whatever. Maybe find out about a decent home-game in Mississauga...

    That's brutal.
    No skill needed.
    Glad you lucked out.

Good Luck with the MTTs and in the 1K tourney
  • Yep..the SnG is literally bingo crapshoot. Don't even bother to play it. If any forum member in KW is interested, I'm playing to head down on Tues or Thurs next week or the week after so I wouldn't mind carpooling or something.
  • pm me Wes lasdkjasldkfj
  • So has anyone played in the MTT rebuy tournaments? Anyone care to comment about them, let how many rebuys people usually go through? I'm thinking about waking up earlier to participate.
  • If you had found this forum earlier, you would have known that these and other casino STTs have a very low "Skill Level" of 1, i.e., a crapshoot with very little poker play. I was playing a ring game at Brantford when I noticed the ST satellite finally getting started after a couple of hours of waiting for the registrants. I recognized several of the players and wished them luck. I was shocked that barely half an hour later, all my friends were gone and the satellite was over!

The best home game in Mississauga is hosted by The_Game. "Free food and drinks, big screen TV, Skill Level 6 blind structure" sounds like an advertisement for an upscale underground club, but it's actually 100% rake-free and legal. He might have a satellite for Brantford or WPT as soon as this weekend. Unfortunately for me, I probably can't make it as I will be busy at Western Fair Casino.

Anyway, good luck in the $1,000 event. That was the one that people such as Fallsview, Howard, my dealer mentor and I bought in for directly. I think it didn't end until 4 AM, so the three of us that made it to the final table were drained for our remaining tournaments in the week.

  • Come on youngbuck! UP AND ATTEM!(lol)
  • I couldn't find anybody that wanted to carpool, so I went by myself and won a $2,000+$125 seat. "cheers: There's a possibility I might not be able to play on Friday, October 5, so if anybody knows somebody who wants to buy my coin or trade $1150+50 or $607+33 WPT satellite vouchers (plus the difference in cash), please PM me.

If you won half as many tournaments as seats, you would be laughing! Well done Buddy!
  • You won a $2000+125 seat??? I was under the impression that the lammer does not include the entry fee. Perhaps I am mistaken...

Oh nice. I think I may play on Sun. How many rebuys did you use (if any)? Do you happen to know the average number of rebuys? Any strategy suggestions for these rebuy tournaments (should I treat it like a no-rebuy tournament or be a bit more aggressive than usual)?
  • I hate how early they hold their mtt sats... lol
  • You are truly a sat master!!
