I'll leave it to Bobby if he wants the details publicly posted, but a similar thing happened at the Georgetown tournament you played at last Friday. When it got down to heads up between me and a Milton Rock and it was already past 1 AM, we made an agreement where I got most of the money; we continued to play it out on who would be the official bounty for this Friday. So even though I was the money winner, the Rock will be the official target on Friday to win a free buy-in. I probably won't be able to make this Friday anyway because I plan to play at the sold-out final $1,500 event at Casino Brantford.
The points standings are updated after each event. Probably neither Bobby nor I will be in the leaderboard screen after the third event yesterday. PokerJah, details of the complicated points system can be downloaded from the CPT website. At the Winter Classic, the top points earner won $12,000, which is actually higher than what the first place winner on Monday (Andre) took home. The points prize pool will be lower this time because the Tuesday and Wednesday events were not sell-outs.
he said he saw the first place trophy and actually held it in his hands. The same source says Bobby is in second place in the point standings but I guess that is wrong as well.
Very first hand, I am in the big blind. Cutoff, button, and small blind in. I have Aces and raise it to 175. Button calls. Flop is AAK, 2 spades. I check, button bets out 300, I raise to 800, he insta pushes all in. I call. He turns over QJ of spades. Turn brick, river 10 of spades. Sick. I literally threw up on the table. We had a one of their best dealers and they were able to deal around the pile of puke until the janitor could get there to clean it up.
Ok, that really didn't happen. Was completely card dead. My stack dwindled down, raised with AK, got re-raised all in by a very aggressive player. I called. He had pocket 6's, flopped a set. That was the end of my night.
Congrats to anyone moving on.
PS, there was only 84 players tonight, and 70 last night. The chip leader from last night has $143,000 chips going into Saturday. I'm surprised that this tourney didn't sell out. Is poker starting to slide in Brantford or is the buyin just too much? I'm pretty sure the Winter Classic sold out, and I thought it would be the same for this one. Already, the prize pool for this tourney is $69,000 less than the last one, with one more day to go.
I could not find any Thursday coin holder to trade for a Friday coin, so if anybody wants to play on the final day, please PM me (or email my temporary email address powerball_us@yahoo.com). According to Casino Brantford, Friday is sold out and there was a waiting list of at least 16 players. At the Winter Classic, the Friday coins sold for as high as $2000-$2300.
Didn't post this last night as I was still frustrated even after the drive home.
Trip report...
Drove to Brantford and arrived at 5pm and there were still about 30 seats for sale so picked one up, paid and drew table 9 seat 5.
Table was very passive early on, one note though we had the $1000 event winner in seat 8. With blinds at 25/25 I picked up AA on the button, player in seat 3 makes it 175 to go (7x bb) so I figure instead of smooth calling that he may call a raise so I pop it to 375 but he mucks fairly quickly. Next hand I pick up AK spades with 2 limpers I raise it to 150 and get 2 callers, Flop is K 2 6 with 2 diamonds, its checked to me I bet 375 and get 1 caller, turn is a 5 putting a double flush draw out and its checked to me, I bet 650 and players folds. Not much happened after that until the table broke. Drew a new seat to a table which was much more aggressive with preflop play, got to the table just in time to see someone flop quad 5's and check call to the river against someone with Ace's, he even checked the river and let the other guy bet off his stack. First break chip count 6700.
Came back from break and picked up QQ with blinds at 100/200 ante 25 and UTG +1 I raised to 600 got 1 caller (small blind), flop was 9 high and he leads out 900, thinking I am still good I repop it to 2200 and he mucks. Went card dead for the next level and a half but picked up some blinds and antes on resteals preflop in position. Went to 2nd break with about 18K. Came back from break (44 players left from original 88 I think) and seeing a flop was almost none existent for the next 30 minutes, either UTG's pushing allin or bigger than normal raises. With blinds at 300/600 and 50 ante I picked up 99 in cutoff and after it was folded around I made it 2000 to go, button mucked, small blind moves in for last 4400 and big blind reraises allin for 9000 I muck of course (not that it mattered but) sb has KK and bb has 10 10. Flop comes K Q J turn A river 9. didn't pick anything up but dealt Q 10 in BB and with 2 limpers and small blind completing I decided to steal and pushed allin got called by a short stack with 77 (didn't feel great about showing my hand as I think I established a tight aggressive approach) anyways I flopped a 10 and it held up. 26K. An orbit later and I got into a confrontation that ended my day. Dealt 99 on the button UTG makes it 1600 to go (blinds still at 300/600) its folded to me and knowing this guy had been loose at the table (raising and showing down hands like QJ off, K 10 and A rag) I decided to repop it to see if I could take it down here so I make it 5000 to go, its folded to him and he thinks for a minute then raises it again to 10K. This is where it gets sick on two parts, I know he is playing back at me, I can feel it. Even though I almost never get involved in a big pot without a big hand I can't shake the feeling I am ahead and even if only marginally so I make the 4th raise back at him allin for another 15+K on top (he has 18K after his raise to 10K) at this point I know I am ahead after his reaction, he litterly goes into the tank for 5 minutes then says something I didn't want to hear. He says "Fuck it, I screwed this up I call" and turns over A 8 off (wtf) anyways the flop is 8 Q 5 Turn 6 River A and much like the Winter Classic an Ace on the river sends me to the rail spinning. I grabbed my hat and got the hell out of there.
When I got up this morning I thought about it again on whether I should have mucked after his raise to 10K with my hand and after some thought I went to my original thoughts the night before that I wasn't there to just get into a money spot for the weekend but to give myself enough chips for a fighting chance at winning. No reward without risk I guess.
Tonights tournament is sold out but it seems the buzz around this isn't as big as the Winter Classic was, could be with summer here free time isn't as accessible for those with families and such. At the winter classic I bought a coin on friday just before the tourney started for 1600 and I would think if there are alot of coins for sale tonight you should be able to pick one up for around that again. A few people are holding multiply coins for today, one guy has 8, so it could turn out to be a buyers market. Good luck to those still playing.
I qualified on Friday (we finished at around 4am) and played the final day yesterday. I ended up finishing in 8th spot for 14K, which is better than a kick in the teeth!
I actually took notes throughout the entire tournament, right from the start. Dave wants me to start a blog at his site so I intended to make this tournament trip report my first entry... glad it has a happy ending.
Wes should be happy. The report will be all hand details and no funny stories. I will likely put it together later tonight.

I played one satellite coin on Friday and sold the other one. I ended up with over 400 points for the week and won over $5,000. I then went to the Georgetown cash game as compuease mentioned to win more money.
Congratulations to all_aces! Who won first place in the $1,500 and Points Prize Pool?

How about you pay for my buy-in and we can split the winnings 90/10? I got to make something for my time. Sound like a deal?

Congrats Devo, I was railing for a bit.
Why not both?
