Brantford Spring Classic 2007
Figured it was a good time to start this thread ...
The Brantford Spring Classic will be held June 11-16, 2007.
From what I understand, the format will be exactly the same as the recent Winter Classic ... ie. Monday the 11th, $500 event ... Tuesday the 12th, $1,000 event ... Wednesday the 13th to Friday the 15th, $1,500 qualifying days ... Saturday the 16th, $1,500 final day.
There will be single and multi-table satellites, in the same format as last time, and I understand they started this week.
From what I was told, the only different to the last event is they have eliminated the first blind level, 25/25, meaning they will start at 25/50.

It will be held in Mississauga, probably on a Friday night, e.g., May 4 or 11. Participants will each get a 2% share if the winner makes it to the money. The blind schedule will be the same to simulate the Spring Classic, but will offer more play than the club satellites, i.e., higher Patience Factor and Skill Level.
If there are at least 8 players, then the buy-in can be $70 or less, with the first place winner of the freezeout getting $550 cash to buy a seat before it sells out. If there are the maximum 20 players, the buy-in can be $30-$85 each, depending if players want the same rebuy/add-on structure or want first place to be a $1,500+125 seat.
If you are interested, please PM with the dates that you can make it.
How'd you do? Also, How many people showed up for the MTT Satellite? What was the buy in?
Since BCC adds all the rebuys and add-ons to the player prize pool, the rake worked out to only 3%! Unlike other casinos and clubs, BCC values the seat prizes without the rake, i.e., the seat is valued at $1,500 instead of $1,500+$125, leaving more cash in the prize pool. Unlike the WPT Step satellites where you would get raked at least $374 by the time you play in the main event, the winner of a BCC MTT satellite only pays a total of $5 rake to play in Skill Level 6 tournaments! These are some of the reasons why I would rate BCC as having the best casino tournaments and satellite to play in.
I'll post my trip report later.
What time do they start?
Thanks,
BCC55
If things haven't changed from their previous schedule, they start 10am daily and usually 5-6 days a week. Again, best to call to double check.
Wes is right.
Every morning at 10:00 a.m.
I'm playing today, and will send a report tonight.

37 entrants, lots of rebuys. They paid 3 $1,500 seats, and then cash prizes of $250, $250, and $230.
Unfortunately for me, I got all my good hands during the rebuy period. I build a stack of 9,200 at the end of the rebuy period. After however, I got no cards, and when I did, they rarely held up.
I did manage to make the final table, but finished a disappointing 10th.
One hand of note ... I was on the button, blinds 25/50 (level 2) ... 5 limpers, I limp with 7s 9s, small blind completes, and big blind raises to 350 ... all 8 call ... flop is 6s 8s 9h ... I have top pair, and an open ended straigh flush draw ... BB bets 500, one caller, I push for about 2,000 ... both call ... BB has As 4s, other guys has KQo (!!??) ... turn is a 9, giving me trips ... as I announce "no spade", the 5s falls on the river ... I take it down with the straight flush, beating the A high flush.
Sad to say, that was the high point of my day!
Good luck to anyone playing in future multis.

It took me around 45 minutes to drive to Brantford Charity Casino. There were 22 registrants as of 9:30. I paid the $55 buy-in with a credit card, showing my Winners Circle card.
So far, so good. On my first three trips to the Winter Classic satellites, I was refused registration for three different reasons before I finally got to play on my fourth visit and won the satellite on my first try. Breakfast at the casino restaurant was good, but I couldn't finish all that food by the time the poker room broadcasted that the satellite was about to start.
The tournament laptop showed 28 players registered, but based on the prize pool, I think there were actually 29 players.
Room For Improvement
- During the Winter Classic satellites, the current blinds, time remaining and other tournament information was displayed on a large screen, but it seems that nobody at BCC knows how to connect a laptop to the screen. It was difficult for the players to see the tournament information.
- BCC still has not done anything to keep cards from sliding into the locked dealer tray. Everytime somebody slides a card into the tray, the clock and play has to be stopped until a supervisor unlocks the tray and takes the card out.
Below are my significant hands during the rebuy period:
- I went all-in pre-flop but the caller had me dominated with a higher pocket pair. I sucked out trips on the flop and busted the caller. That caller had the worst luck in the table and kept busting out with better hands preflop. After at least five bad beats and rebuys, he gave up on the satellite and left!
- I reraised with KK. Another player re-raised all-in, and everybody else folded. My spidey senses were tingling that he had AA, but I called anyway. He did have AA and he won my whole ~$2,500 stack. D-oh! "REBUY!"
- On the final hand of the rebuy period, I again had KK. I reraised all-in and two other players went all-in with lower pocket pairs. My cowboys held up and I took over the chip lead in my table. I had made a total of four rebuys.
I don't think the prize structure was ever announced, but after walking to the laptop, I saw that the top five would get paid. The total prize pool was $4,470: two $1,500 seats, one $1,000 seat, $250, and $220 for fifth place.
After 1 1/2 hours of freezeout play, it was down to the final table of ten. Another player from the Pirana Poker Tour was at another table and did not make a single rebuy, but also made it to the final table. After I went all-in, he called with KK and had my lower pair dominated. I sucked out a set on the flop again and eliminated him in 8th place.
I expected the final table would consist mostly of semi-pros and other BCC regulars, but the final four turned out to be all from the Pirana :fish:or Red Hot Poker Tour! I heard the three strangers talking about going to a bar later, which I recognized to be with a poker tour. So despite a $4,000+ prize pool on the line, the four of us kept talking about playing in a freeroll tournament that night! When I went to the bar tournament later, there was a player there who had made it to the money in two of the BCC Winter Classic tournaments!
When it was down to the final three, the player on the button went all-in with J8o. He had won two big pots earlier in the satellite with the same hand. He had previously played at the BCC Winter Classic and Ultimate Poker Challenge. I called on the big blind and eliminated him. I won the $1,500 seat on my first try again!
With the seats decided, I went all-in blind and the other winner followed. I expected that a hand would be dealt out so that all the chips would end up with one player and the tournament can officially finish, but the tournament director simply stopped the satellite.
Summary: While most casinos and clubs have crapshoot satellites with a Skill Level of 0, BCC has the best satellites. Despite the low buy-in of $55, its MTT satellite has a Patience Factor of 6, a Skill Level of 3 and a rake of only 3%. Two thumbs up!
Unfortunately, BCC does not have any satellites or seat prizes to its $500+$50 tournament on June 11. Forum member The_Game will be hosting a rake-free satellite for a $550 seat on Friday, May 4 at 7 PM.

Yesterday's satellite sold out at 50 players. There were five $1,500 seats awarded!
I was told that there were 48 players at Sunday's satellite, with seven getting paid. A couple of the players on the final table were from the Pirana :fish:Poker Tour. BCC said that there were 32 players today. I will probably play this week to try to win my third $1,500+ seat in a row.
I played in three mornings and it has been more than worth it. I have made it to the money in all three satellites, always finishing in the top five. I have met other players who have also won multiple seats, including one who has seven $1,500+ seats already!
They are.
Both the $500 and $1,000 tourneys are sold out.
Well, that's not entirely correct. They are still holding back a few $1,000 seats for the multi-table satellites, but they have waiting lists for both events. I have my name on both, and based on past experience, will probably get in (at least to the $500 event, where I'm very close to the top of the waiting list).

GO SABRES!!
Yes, there should be plenty left. I didn't bother asking how many they had sold, because at this point, there will be lots left.
There will also be coins available from people who have won multiple entries. I haven't checked to see the latest "going rate" for coins.

An interesting situation happened at a recent satellite. Tt was down to 5 players, with fifth place getting a $1000 seat while the remaining four would win a $1500 seat. Since she had won a $1500 seat already, a player proposed taking the $1K seat if the other four players agreed to pay her $50 each. The chip stacks were comparable, and the blinds were very high at 4,000/8,000. Knowing about the Independent Chip Model, I figured out that it was a good +$EV offer, but the other players were confused and it took awhile to reach agreement.
The TD refused the players' agreement and said to play it out. One of the players wanted to change his mind and play out the hand because he woke up with pocket aces! However, the offerror had already given up her chips, so there were only 4 players left. The 4 players got their $1500 seat and gave the $1K seat winner a total of $200 extra cash.
Half of the players who made it to the money happen to play with the Pirana Poker Tour. Another Pirana player has also won two seats in two tries! I'm surprised that the forum members and other people I recognize in the ring tables at BCC don't play in these very winnable satellites.
For anyone who is interested, they are now running these sattelites every day of the week (including Saturday's). As well, this Monday (today) and next Monday, they are running 2 tourney's, the regular 10 am and a second at 5 pm.
any info is appreciated.
The buy-in is $55, with $20 unlimited rebuys. There are a maximum of 50 players. The 20-minute blinds start at 25/25. When you go to the Georgetown tournament on Friday night, I'll give you one of the Casino Brantford flyers.
See you on Friday...keep your cell on, in case I get lost.
