Jason, it's nice to have you and 13 cards posting here.
I went a lot in the spring to play 6/12 limit, maybe 25 times or so but only twice was there a 10/20 limit going. went 2 weeks ago and played 10/20, with a waiting list. Is a 10/20 limit game on the weekends getting to be the norm or still just sporadic?
10/20 is getting to be the norm on the weekends...finally! We would love to have more Limit action at Fallsview. If you like playing Limit, please spread the word that we would like to have your action. Although No Limit is the majority's choice, to make our room one of the best, we look forward to offering No Limit, Limit, Omaha (Thursdays), 7-Stud, daily tournaments and WPT events.
Is that true, 13CARDS? Methinks Jason & 13CARDS should play in one of the forum events, so we can judge who is the better player.
That may be possible...but I think Mr. March and I may be headed for a confrontation at Event #1 at this year's WSOP...or maybe even sooner than that!!!
I'm a bit late on the band wagon but welcome to forums! It looks like you have a lot of fantasic ideas for the poker room and can't wait to return to Fallsview.
A main initial change is the removal of the $25-$25 level and the addition of a $100-$200 level with no ante.
And, I'm not sure what exceedingly brilliant man took the time out of his busy schedule to write you a personal email on why this is a good thing, but I'm just happy to see the change!
Welcome to the boards and good luck with 2007.
Rob.
(PS. And if you're ever in need of someone with TD experience.. I'm beginning to tire of IT. Pick me! Pick me!)
Session Fee vs. Rake - We will be sticking with the session fee as opposed to raking the pots. There are far fewer issues during the course of a day (Dealers don't forget to take session) which is where the nasty business side of poker comes into play. On losing days, session fees suck, on winning days the're great. In the long run, I believe they are better for winning players. There are many other reasons, such as game pace, game security, etc....I can see both sides, session fee is a "cleaner" option.
Tournaments - all tournaments will be NL, all will be ten-handed tables. I will post a layout for each tournament once everything is clear on this end. Based on feedback, the schedule that I posted earlier will be the tournaments offered, but the MTT are still not approved. Not sure if/when that will happen - it could take a while. Until approvals, I will begin with the SNG's four days a week, and I am really trying to start as early as Monday the 18th. All daily tournaments you will need to sign up in person on each day, that day. I can't stress enough that approvals take time.
25-25 - I'm glad to see this is making everyone so happy, but this was actually not what I received the most feedback about. The exclusion of the 100-200 (no ante) level caused an alarming amount for concern for some. Let me explain. I believe in using one consistent blind structure for ALL tournaments, no matter the size, and adjusting the starting chips and time of each level. It is easier for the staff, for the players, for the gaming commission, and it's just much more consistent overall. In order to make the satellites work (play for the people) I added the 25-25 and removed the 100-200. The removal of the 25-25 and adding the 100-200 will still get you to the fourth level at the same time, but I thought the previous structure would give knowledgeable players an area to capitalize on the weaker ones while at the same time keeping the weaker players around longer (making them think they are better, therefore, try again = better for knowledgeable players). I know about M's and the mathematics of structures, and spend a great deal of time trying to make these fair to both sides (player vs. casino). Daniel Negreanu wrote a blog entry about the tournaments here (and touched on this point) where he stated that Fallsview was "without a doubt the slowest structure on the WPT, almost too slow". That might be the single greatest compliment you could give a Tournament Director, I'll take that everyday. It's usually the opposite. Unfortunately a slow structure didn't help Daniel, Daniel was the first player out on Day 1B, we would have loved to see him make the final, it would have been great for poker in Canada. I listen, we learn, I made the change.
Tournament revenue - There was quite a bit posted about the "crapshoot" $90 satellites. There is one other live property (Foxwoods) that I know of where you can win a WPT seat for under a hundred bucks. I went with two, two-step programs in order to win a seat worth $10,300. Fowoods also has a step program, but need to win three steps from a $60 buy-in. I don't think you will find a fairer satellite program anywhere. In small tournaments, I look to make between $100-$200 per hour from the tournaments fee, otherwise it is hard to justify the expenses, of which I also tip the Dealers an amount that is comparative to their regular hourly rate for tips. This is why you will not see a tournament fee less than $10, and if it is $10, it will be a quick structure. The higher the fee, the greater amount of play. Business numbers need to come into play.
Limit Hold'em - 10/20 is a regular game Friday through Sunday, and sporadically through the week. Two years ago when we introduced poker at Fallsview, we had high limit games, we made some errors and we lost the play. I took over poker in February and I would love to have the play back.
Stud - To be honest, I don't believe we have ever had a game going. Flint Bones, you are wise beyond your years. I'll spread the game, it just does not get the demand like the golden days!
13Cards - absolutely terrible poker player. Great poker mind. Terrible player. Kinda reminds me of Mike Caro, without the hair. Terrible.

One of the many "non-monetary" perks to working at Fallsview is the daily berating you can get from Da Boss. And my hair would look like Mr. Caro's if I let it grow out that long!
These tournaments sound marvelous, absolutely marvelous, I cannot wait for them to start. And I myself can also vouch for the poor quality of 13cards poker play, he's a freakin' Legend!
any thought to a pokerforum.ca tournament held at Fallsview? If 97.7 can arrange it, why not Pokerforum.ca? you could probably fill in quite easy and stick to the standard fees like other tournaments you hold. Is it feasible? If so, lets get planning for the New Year

hey 13cards
i was wondering, what's the qualification to become a poker dealer?
i'm thinking taking part time position as poker dealer, this way, i can observe the players gain exprience on reading other player, and building up my bankroll. I seem to heard somewhere, alot of pro poker player start out as poker dealer has seem all different kind of players, day in and day out. give them the advantage on the table.
Daily tournaments - as of right now, I have single table SNG's approved, and am working on getting flexible approvals for multi-table tournaments. Here is tentatively what I am planning to offer:
Sunday - $200 (180+20) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Monday - $60 (50+10) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Tuesday - $60 (50+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Wednesday - $100 (90+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Thursday - $200 (180+20) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Friday - $500 (460+40) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Saturday - $1000 (950+50) SNG - Noon to Midnight
This is all tentative. Single table only on week-ends, I can't spare more tables. I will begin the single tables (trying for this Monday) and wait for the approvals for the multi-table tournaments on Tu-We-Th. I will post more on the starting chips/blind levels as I finish them , but for the Fri/Sat SNG's you can expect a lot of play. Friday 2K starting chips 30 minute levels (3-4 hours), and Saturday 2.5K starting chips with 30 minute levels (4-5 hours). The smaller buy-in events will obviously be less play, but I do want them to be fair, I hate Bingo.
They are SNGs, they start once enough people are signed up... they don't simply start at noon.
/g2
mmm....ok
i don't want to drive 1.5hr down there, when the table is full or not enough to start.....anyway to do this better? like i can call before i leave toronto?
I don't get exactly what you want them to do? Save you a spot and not start a game until you arrive?
no no no
i just want be able to know in advance before i drive down there
say if i call at 5pm, they say, right now 8 people in. ok, book me a seat, and i'll drive down there, and play.
i don't wanna call, 8 people in, and drive down there, sorry, all seats taken.
if you call at 5pm and they 8 so far, and it takes you 1.5 hours to get there, I am sure they will get the 9th and 10th player before you get there.
They are Sit 'n' Go tourny's. Once 10 players want to play the Tourny will start. This means that they could have a tourny running every 15mins if there is enough interest.
no no no

Late as well, but thanks Jason for coming to the forum. I think it is a great place and that you will find it a great venue for testing the pulse of poker in our area.
From a specatator as well point of view the WPT was well run. Enough space for the players not to feel too cramped by the spectators yet just enough for me to get over my 'OMG, that's (insert poker rock star name here)" star struckness. Also, all my "A-list" dealers were there. My friends were getting tired of me giving a report card of the dealers at the tables, but the selection process worked very well.
As soon as the lower buy-in sats for the 2007 WPT start, you can " deal me in! "
Road blocks everywhere! I'm running into "issues" that are delaying the start of the tournaments, so it won't be Monday. Hopefully soon, at least for the SNG's, the MTT may take longer from the looks of things. I have the starting chip amount/level times, but I would like to see what some of you see as reasonable structures. Based on the following:
Sunday - $200 (180+20) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Monday - $60 (50+10) SNG - Noon to Midnight
Tuesday - $60 (50+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Wednesday - $100 (90+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Thursday - $200 (180+20) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
Show me what you believe to be a reasonable structure for both parties (casino and players), based on revenue of $100-$200 per hour, per table. I will post what I have on Tuesdayor Wednesday, should be interesting.
Dead Money - The MTT tournaments will have a maximum of fifty players (if approved). The SNG's will be based on demand, I will have more than one table if necessary, but will not exceed five (can't see it, would love it, but can't see it). The Fri/Sat SNG's are high because it is hard to spare more than one table on those days in order to keep the wait times for live games reasonable.
88Fingers - glad you enjoyed the atmosphere for the WPT. I have more planned for 2007, including logo wear, a fan alley for picutres/autographs, book signings, etc. The satellites for 2007 will be the same (pending approvals!) for the most part, the response was incredible. I will also have satellites for the 1K, 2K, and 4K events, pending approvals or course.
Chuckieland - The idea of a SNG is based on customer demand, you have to be there to register. Phone-ins for live games cause enough issues, for any type of tournament it's just not realistic.
The struture isn't bad, but its all relative to what the starting chips will be.
As far as satellites to the WPT, I think I speak for alot of players that we would love to see some super satellites along side the single table ladder format. Just some food for thought.
hi jason
thanks for inform, i understand your view
i just have one last question
Tuesday - $60 (50+10) multi, 50 max - 2pm and 9pm
does that mean, two tournments on that day? one start at 2pm and one start at 9pm?
if so, i still have to been there live to register? or can i call in to book a seat in advance? you could make it something like, telephone register has to be there 1hr-2hr before the tournment start or seat cannot be reserve.
It seems that many pro poker players were dealers somewhere along the road. I play a decent amount of poker but can never seem to get enough, so dealing I feel would be the perfect job. How do you go about becoming a dealer in a casino? Are there courses? Do you just show up and apply? Any feedback would be great.... Thanks!
