  • The dunes are nice and hard to go wrong for the price.

I made this calculator sheet in excel when I was shopping for chips - if you want PM your email and I'll send it over.

Really moose? Everything I read says more low chips. I could probably be okay with 200 $0.25 but 100 seems pretty low.

EDIT: for example, even if i go 12 quarters and 12 $1s, that's 96 quarters i need for 8 people and can't even do 10 players. i could maybe go 150 at the lowest.

although i think you are mostly right. i don't think i need 300 quarters. i'll probably get 200 for 500 chips total.
  • also, i think the $40 buy-in breakdown would probably be better with 16 $0.25, 16 $1, and 4 $5
  • Workhorse chip will be the $1 chip. STD raise will be to $1. More than a rack on the table and everyone will have nice pretty stack of quarters that never get in play. I always start with 8 each and then get the rest of the rack in with the rebuys. It's plenty. Another rack of $1s or 5s will give you more value. I use a dealer that works for tips so a lot of quarters go in his tray and a rack is still plenty.
  • in a 600 chip set I think moose is right, 100 quarters is kind of the limit. Still gives you enough to do 12 each in an 8max or 8 each in a 10max, and allows you to go 100x.25, 300x1, and 200x5.

This also means you can get up to $1325 in play - so you are good for .25/.25 $40max all the way up to .50/1.00 $200max with a full table. The breakdown you posted above would work fine for your 40 max but you would never be able to run anything else.
  • Purchased a poker table today! Oval, seats ten. Just has folding legs but that's probably better for convenience.

Yeah I was going to build one but this one was a decent price and pretty close to what I'd be making anyway. Also came with a 500 piece chip set but they obviously aren't great chips.

    Picking it up Sunday!
  • Very nice! Pics?

i didn't take a pic and there isn't one online but the one below is an 8 person table that pretty much looks exactly the same. the one i got seats ten and is 84" whereas this one is 64" i believe.

  • Very cool. I've personally never been a fan of racetrack tables to play on but they do like nicer than without. Now you just need to host some games once you get it.

i've always liked the racetrack tables. i like having a section where my chips go and having a "line" to cross when betting sort of thing.

i still have to buy some cash game chips which i will probably do soon. maybe i'll try to run a game in december but i'm assuming most people are pretty busy then.

according to the responses here, we might be up to 4 players (including me) lol. i literally have only one friend who plays somewhat regularly who will most likely come and maybe a couple more who rarely play but will probably come down for a game if i'm hosting. i guess i could invite my father and "uncles" as well. too bad i can't get the girlfriend to like poker :(

basically, for those who are considering ever attending a game, there will probably be a few people who are not good at poker ;) (but don't tell them that!)

Ah pretty sure I play on one of those all the time just different felt, decent enough for sure
  • Table is here! Had to set it up and play with some chips to test it out. Obviously not a crazy good expensive table but I like it. I think I may order chips today. Also bought a new desktop and a projector for the basement on black Friday. Spending way too much money lately lol. Have to treat myself sometimes ;)
  • Where are you ordering your chips from? I was considering ordering some more for my set. Let me know I may jump in on an order.

was going to get them from thechiproom.com but the site is down for maintenance and has been down for a few days now. hopefully everything is still okay with them as i don't know where else to buy decent chips from. i'm planning on getting the composite dunes commemorative chips if they still have them in stock.
  • You will have to phone them. They shut down the website when they moved a few months ago.

    thanks moose.

i swear i was on there a couple weeks ago and it was working. oh well.

do you still suggest i buy from them or do you have another suggestion?
  • Them or you could get blanks and make custom labels from palm gaming

i'm assuming blanks and custom labels could be expensive, correct?

those dunes i can get for around $400 which is what i'm looking to spend.
  • I would guess about .60 to .80 per chip.

    Okay that's not too bad.
  • It might be less. I saw that pgi labels were .12 ea.

i emailed them the other day to ask about prices. still haven't heard anything...
  • i also have a question about the colors for the denominations. if i get these custom made chips, i'd like to get them in the standard color as they are normally in the casino.

from what i've read, the standard color for $1 is white, and the standard color for $5 is red. however, i can't find anything for $0.25 chips color (which kind of makes sense as it's probably not normally used in casinos).

so, i was thinking of getting the $0.25 chips in green which is the standard color for $25 chips just in case i ever feel like upping the blinds and using the $0.25 as $25 chips. good idea or would it be confusing? do you have an idea for a better color?

anyone ever buy from this place? are any of these chips decent? there seems to be some good prices here but i don't want to get something crappy. also, could actually drive to pick these up and avoid shipping costs.
  • damn this is getting to be a pain in the ass. jeez moose, just let me buy some from your millions of chips ;) lol
