  • was gonna head down this weekend, but by the sounds of things it'll be better if i wait a while.. also, of those of you who have been there, are they running any stud or omaha? thanks
  • I'd much prefer paying a 5$ rake on 10/20, 20/40 than paying 10$-14$/ hour

It depends on how many hands per hour the dealer can deal. For example, at 30 hands/hr, about $150* will be taken off the table per hour as rake, which is more (in total) than a time charge would be for the table.

My guess is that Niagara has (wisely IMO) decided to go with a rake at first for all games, since newer dealers will deal much slower than usual. Most time charge players will not (and shouldn't) tolerate a slow dealer.

If your dealer is good (i.e. high hands/hour) I think a $100/hour time charge is superior to a rake for 10/20, but it's pretty close for 20/40.

  • Okay i'm heading to Niagara on Monday night, and will be staying till Wednesday.

Absent family time and shopping time, i'm hoping to spend a long stretch of time on the poker tables.

Trying to figure out what limits they're running now and the quality of the games. I

'll play just about anything but i want to avoid tables where we're taking flops only 2 or 3 handed, with 20-30% of the times chopping or blinds. So from anyone's experience at niagara, am i going to find a decent game at 10/20 or will it be a rock garden.

Ie. what limits have people tried out there and what was there experience, recently (not first few days after opening)
  • Usually 2 10-20 games going. 20-40 & 75-150 on weekends. There is a crazy nl game there, 500-3000 buy-in $5&$5 blinds, usually $20k-$30k sitting on that table.

The $10-$20 you refer to can be good( some regulars) but the lists are atrotious ( is that right?). Went on Thursday night waited 2 hours still 12 names away ( 2 more hours) , decided to leave.

Good luck if/when you get there.
  • if you plan to head out call ahead (905-371-7777) and put your name on the list. I've played 3/6 and 4/8 and I liked 4/8. Very good tables, not a lot of so called bingo poker going on. I made money so I'm happy. I would recommend 4/8 or 6/12. There is ussually more then 1 table of 4/8 open so the wait times are not very large. You can call ahead by 90 minutes to put your name on the list.

    cheers

Yup, I was there last night and sat some 4/8 and a little 6/12. Fairly soft game and enough money to be made. They had two tables of 6/12 going so there was not much of a wait, and about an hour for the 4/8.
  • Just doing some work in the casino's business center and figured i'd fire out an update

I was playing last night at the casino (monday night) ... kept getting called up to bigger games, but just stayed and played 4/8 cause i was really tired and the table was good. Showed a small profit $150 for about 3.5 hours while getting average cards.

I'll be there all day today (tuesday) ... not sure what limit i'll be playing but i'm an indian guy wearing jeans and a long sleeve black t-shirt ... so if you pop in today say hi. i'm hoping to be there most of the day, unless other obligations pull me away.
  • Chugs what time were you sitting at, and what were you wearing?
  • Can anyone confirm is they've started running the Omaha H/L game yet? I might be down there this weekend...

As for the 10/20 Hold Em game, I found it kind of easy to beat. It was a jungle when I went a couple of weeks ago.
  • Okay i'm back from Niagara.

I played at various points 4/8, 6/12 and 10/20 there ... they also had a 5/5 NL and a 20/40 on monday and tuesday but didn't run on wednesday.

When i get some time i'll post a full report.

No omaha etc... and they close up at 4am and open at noon (but really closer to 1pm).

I'll say one thing going and staying at a hotel and knowing you're going to be putting in a lot of hours on the tables. I think that was something i wasn't mentally prepared for.

Overall enjoyed my self but was down for the trip. A combination of poor play on my part a few times but more of a run of premium hands not holding up, and flopping a total of one set over three days, and my draws not coming through (and i'm not talking draws i didn't have the odds for, all draws)

    I've heard about this 5/5 NL game. What's the max buy-in? $1000?
  • Changes from day to day. Weekdays usually $100 min to $500 max. Weekends usually $500 min to $3,000 max.

They occasionally run a smaller $1/$2 blind $40 min to $100 max , but I havent seen it in a week.
  • I'll be there tonihgt again. Heavyset guy, jeans, brown sweather. No partypoker hat :).
    Probably 4/8 or 6/12

  • Bumping this up.

Does anyone have any update info on Fallsview. I am heading there Friday afternoon (12ish when it opens). What are the limit and no-limit games running now. I read that earlier there $100 buy-in no limit games with a max $500. Is that all?
    What are the limit games?
I haven't been to Fallsview yet and want to know a little more before going in. It may be my new place unless Brantford changes.
  • 4/8 (most of the time) 6/12, 10/20, 5/5 NL and 20/40 on weekends. If your sitting the 5/5 NL its best to get there right at 12 so you can sit with equal stacks, when you sit later in the day there are some pretty deep stacks.
  • What is the max buy in for the 5/5 NL game?
  • $500 if im not mistaken
  • Sounds good. I guess you'd be a fool to buy in with any less than $400.

I don't mean to keep asking silly questions, but what is the avg pot? And is it a loose game like the (2/5, 5/10) in Brantford?
  • I've barely stepped into a casino but from what is posted on the Forum, casinos seem to provide such poor quality of service.

I find that quite strange... ?
  • If you;re coming to Niagara Falls you're way better off to go across the river to Seneca casino. Much nicer room, bigger variety of games. They have 1/2 NL and 5/5 NL. 2/4 3/6 4/8 and up. Waiting lists are very short. They have 18 tables, free drinks and are a hell of a lot more friendly and more knowledgable at poker then the mofos at Fallsview Casino. Seneca is about 3 minutes away from Casino Niagara and well worth the $3.50 toll you pay at the border. I play 1/2 NL there and love it. I will never go to Fallsview Casino again unless its for a tourny. The fuckers at Fallsview dont deserve a penny of my hard earned money. /rant off

  • I called Fallsview today and well, _today_ they have 4/8 going. Hopefully they'll still have that game going this weekend.

At what point does the IRS start the rake in Seneca? Thanks.
  • Waiting lists are very short.

Yeah if you go there at 3am, theres no lists. If you go there to play 2/4 saturday at 5pm, expect to wait 4 hours. But they have a nice Omaha8 game you can feel free to try out while you wait :)

Factor in the free booze and seneca is the A#1 of niagara poker.
  • I think anything less $1000 is free, after that you get taxed.
Playing anywhere at 5pm on a Saturday will mean long lists. Between all the spots around Niagara to play poker Seneca has the shortest list. By far the best poker room I';ve been to so far.
  • Fallsview just upped their rake on $10-$20. It was 10% max of $5, now it is 10% max $7, a 40% increase!! They don't even kiss you on the lips before they screw you.

At 30 hands an hour , $100 a pot , they are taking $210/hr. off the table.
Brantford charges $10 an hour session fee times 10 players, for a total of $100/hr.
I know where I'll be playing.
  • Do they allow smoking at Seneca? Specifically, do they allow smoking in the poker room? I can't stand the smell of it, so I'll have to stick with Brantford if they allow it. :(

THey dont allow smoking in or near the poker room. You have to go about 50 feet away to smoke. You cant smell the smoke at all unless the person besides smells of it :).

no way . . . if you tell them what you need they can make it so you get it . . . most places you get vip treatment when your in the poker room . . . ie. if there is a line up for dinner you bypass it and get a discount . . . you have free drinks (ie tea pop water coffee juice) if you call ahead and the know your name they will even send a limo to pick you up at no cost . . . and you get discount at certain hotels that are usually arranged by the casino . . . i think they treat you very well . . . you just have to ask for what you want . . .
