New Canadian Online Poker Room

Hello Canadian poker fans,

My name is Dave from Victoria BC and I represent a new online card room being designed specifically for Canadian poker players.

Your feedback will go a long way in helping us to create the ultimate online card room for canucks!

Here are some ideas off the top of my head.

1. Online satellite tournaments to  the 55 Canadian Poker Tour events being held in casinos all across the country this year. Several of those events all televised so you mite end up playing on TV.

2. Instead of the usual trips to Las Vegas.... how about package trips to Canadian casinos or even ski trips to Whistler? You know, Canadian type prizes for Canadian players.

3. Chapters gift certificates so you can buy that new poker book?

4. Canadian Tire money? lol

5. A free, years worth of your favorite beer!

I don't know.... just putting some ideas out there. I maybe way off here on what Canadian players are really looking for in a poker room when they sit down to play online.

I will be putting together the player incentive prize packages for this new Canadian card room so lets here your ideas.

Anything within reason..... I can make it a reality.

I am dedicated to creating the ultimate Canadian online poker room!

Thank you in advance for your input.

  • I like the idea of the buy-ins for the CPT events. It would bring some more exposure to the tour.

What...did you win the WSOP this year??? :D

You could go broke with that idea.

I like the idea of CPT satelites though.

    Great idea!!
How about WPT events held in Canada?

The online poker room network that I represent  has a ton of money to spent on player rewards folks.

$5000 worth of beer as a prize is a doable deal. No problem.

They understand that there is huge potential for promoting online poker in Canada and are willing to reward players handsomely with player incentives that Canadians want the most.

This is your chance to build the ultimate Canadian online poker room from the ground up. Our poker room!

Describe your idea of the perfect online poker room for Canadian players and I can make it happen.

    Seriously.

I am dedicated, fulltime,  to making this project a reality so keep those ideas coming and thanks for your input.

  • Must resist the light. Must resist the light. Damn. Can we move this to advertising.

    Cheers

  • Great idea!!
How about WPT events held in Canada?

    Thanks for the input JohnnieH

The WPT event at Niagara is already high on my list.

I'm working with the RiverRock on a future WPT event and getting them more involved with the CanadianPokerTour in the near future.

Any other ideas for player rewards on a Canadian theme?

I thought the Chapters gift certificates and Canadian Tire dollars were pretty cool ideas.

    LOL......maybe not.

How about the idea of an official "PokerTeamCanada" to represent our country in every major tournament worldwide?
  • Must  resist the light.  Must resist the light.  Damn.  Can we move this  to advertising.

    I am not advertising anything.

I am sincerely looking for feedback on what fellow Canadian poker players are looking for in an online poker room for everyone's future benefit.

I'm sorry if my enthusiasm for this project reeks of spam but I don't want anything from anyone here except for ideas on what is important to them as online Canadian poker players.
  • I like the idea of the buy-ins for the CPT events. It would bring some more exposure to the tour.

That's the kind of positive feedback that is helpful to the moving Canadian poker to the next level.

Any specifics on the satellite tournament structure that you would like to see?

    What about the winter months?

This sounds like a great idea to help promote CPT. I would be up for some satellites.

    GL Dave, keep us posted.
  • how about some BC bud?

    or

a pass to the front of the line at your local emergency room

    or

a special edition Strange Brew DVD

    or...

    God Bless Canada!!!

no seriously...I like the tourney entry ideas but theyd have to include airfare...I couldnt ride my bike to Calgary in February!!

Good Luck and I can't wait to hear more about your site!

  • What about the winter months?

    That's a great question.

What do Canadian poker players want to  do in the winter?

I'm serious guys.....you all know how much money the online poker rooms rake off of us.

    Billions.

And you all know how they are willing to give some of it back to get us to play at their poker room as opposed to the 200 or so of their competitors.

They are just now beginning to realize how popular poker is Canada.

I am on the ground floor of a online poker network that you see adds on TV for everyday but they are launching a new online Canadian poker room.

They have big bucks to spend on marketing this new room and I want, no insist that Canadians get  a big chunk of those benefits.

They don't even know I'm doing this so I'm taking a big chance here business wise.

Keep those ideas coming......... secretly please.

Airfare and spending money  will be included with all prize packages.

I lived in Banff from 1984 to 1990..... on and off throughout the years skiing and bartending so I hear you brother!  30 below

It looks like a unaminous vote for CanadianPokerTour satellites.

What else do we want in our poker room?
  • $5000 worth of beer as a prize is doable deal. No problem.

That might get me through a long weekend but not a whole year!!!

Honestly, for me personally I'll play if you offer frequent reload bonuses that can be cleared at the lower limits like 0.50/1.00. Satellites to Canadian events are a good idea as well but unless I'm playing for a bonus I'm not playing.

Playing tournaments for a Canadian getaway like a ski trip, seeing a band in another city, or even something like NHL playoff tickets is a novel idea as well and might fly?
  • For me, satellites to Canadian tournaments is a great reason to play a Canadian site. Oher than that, I just need what every other online casino has and for you to do those things well: lots of tables, solid software, fast payouts, good customer service and occasional freerolls and bonuses to keep me interested over time.
  • I agree you need to have freerolls and reload bonuses. The idea of NHl playoff tickets as some sort of prize is very appealling too.I hope you can get this up and running.Oh ya Canadian $ is good too!!
  • Is anyone else concerned that there may too much attention on poker in Canada already? It may only be a matter of time before B&M poker gets taxed, no?
  • redoak181 wrote:

Other casino winnings aren't immediately taxed in Canada (except for income tax purposes, which I'm sure you're all claiming) so I doubt poker would get singled out. Thankfully, we're not like the US in that respect.
  • Thanks for all the great input so far guys!

It looks like Canadians want online sattellites to the CPT events and other major tournaments.

Frequent reload bonuses that can be cleared playing the lower limits.

    Freerolls.

    Solid software....(already done)

    Good customer service.

Tickets to Canadian sporting events, concerts, vacation spots.

Any other ideas for Canadian themed prizes will be consided so please keep those opinions coming.
  • Dave, do you have a go-live date?

I assume this will be a new skin with a new interface so if if you need any beta-testers of any kind, I'd gladly volunteer.
  • I think the single most "Canadian" thing that would get me playing on your site is an open report on all the Canadian causes that a portion of your revenue is donated to.

I would be MUCH more inclined to play on this Canadian site, knowing that the money being made is being invested back into our communities instead of going offshore.

For example, the Trillium Foundation dispurses millions upon millons each year gained through gambling/lotteries back into the country. They have a clear method for applying for these grants and openly report on the causes they support.

Adding this to your poker site would set you apart from everyone else out there and give Canadians a solid reason to support a Canadian poker site.

    Rob.

(PS. And, if you do do this, I'd like to step to the front of the line and apply for a $60,000 grant to help finish rebuilding our community theatre that burned down four years ago. (In fact.. the naming rights of the theatre might be for sale... "The <NameOfCanadianPokerSite> Theatre" would be a pretty cool thing.... :))

    Ditto here!!
  • Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm suspicious..... I really doubt that with current gaming laws anyone could get away with a truly "Canadian" online site, ie hosted in Canada. Would have to be hosted elswhere, registered elswhere, etc. Therefore why would it be different than any other site? Maybe I'm not "getting" it but someone please enlighten me if I am wrong.

    Finally, a skeptic! Nice post.

As far as the ideas passed around, CPT satellites entries is interesting.

And as far as the added "features", I assume a huge player base and game selection (hopefully with weak opponents), low rake, frequent reload bonuses or rakeback, fast transfers to neteller, reliable software, excellent customer support, etc. etc. etc., which is pretty much ALL a pre-requisite for anyone to consider moving from any of the more established sites.

Now that is an interesting concept  that I never would of thought of.

I'll add it to the list of possibilities. Thanks Rob.

I will keep you guys updated as things progress, but for now we are in the developing ideas and planning the sites direction stage.

We want to get everything right from the very beginning!

You are right, of course compuease. The site is hosted and registered overseas.
Therefore why would it be different than any other site?

That's why I started this thread. To get ideas from Canadian online players on how we can build the best "Canadian" poker site possible. The kind of site you would want to play at that is as uniquly Canadian as we can make it.

Thanks for your opinion ScoobyD. All are welcome.

I don't blame you guys for being skeptical.

I'm just trying to do the best job that I can after being asked to find out what Canadian players want in the way of features and player bonuses and  incentives in a poker room designed for the Canadian online poker market.

    Can't hurt to ask, right?

What you guys have to say is of great importance to us in the designing of the site and I really appreciate you taking the time to express your opinions.
  • No new idea from me, but I love the Snow destination as a prize/incentive.(Whistler/Blackcomb preferrably) CPT entries are obviously very good also. You know, I'd play for a trip almost anywhere, and there's lot's of places in Canada I haven't seen yet. Just get creative with that I guess.

  • It could be licenced through the kanawake gaming commision and therefore almost canadian. A lot of sites are registered there.
  • How about a cup of Timmy's coffee for anyone that doesn't finish in the money?(tournament)

You will probably be in the line up longer than you were in the tourny.

    *Warning, off topic post commencing*

Is it just me or is everyone else sick and tired of Tim Horton's constantly having huge line ups, extremely slow and terrible service, and the odd time they actually get your order right it tastes like shit? I used to be a huge Timmy's fan, but the last few months have really soured my opinion of their "monopoly" on the coffee houses.

    But what's my alternative?
