Could you please put a "Last updated: ..." somewhere in here, just so we know when the info was last updated. Thanks

Looks like we need some more KPS/WPC winners! I'm working on some plans for the summer... I can't wait!

    Ahem....

    Hey g2...

The "last edited" tag at the bottom of the post should give you some idea... :)

    Mark
I know, but I don't trust it. It could have been you or Shannon sneaking in to change the rules ;)

I think I paid his dollar to get into the TC for it too.

  • I am such a Triple Crown loser.
    g2 paid my MXM because I didn't want to break a 20.
I gave Mark 97 cents at Beanie's for the same reason haha.

  • Even though I am a relative newcomer to the forum and the home games within, I am very interested in this thread. Chopping prize money is a common part of poker whether you are talking small games or WSOP events.

I think there is a huge difference regarding winning a poker tournament or winning money in a poker tournament. Money is something that has a different meaning for everyone involved. To a person that is well off, making $1000 in a poker game means absolutely nothing. To a player that lives pay cheque to pay cheque, $1000 might seem like an obscene amount. When it comes down to the payouts in a tournament, the players who have earned the prize money can do anything they AGREE to do with that money. It is now theirs, just like the money in their wallets is theirs. Chopping can happen out in the open, just like it did in Saturday's event or it can be done secretly. If I was playing in a tournament I would feel better if people were doing this in the open as opposed to sneaking off and making the deal. If Jeremy was playing Mandy in the heads up, would they not be chopping the first and second place prizes. You have a large number of couples that play in these tournaments. Every time they are both in the money, they are essentially chopping.

I also feel that chopping has no bearing on who wins in poker. All of us play to win. Some play to get into the money first, but once we are heads up we all want to take it down. Even if there was no money involved, all players would still be trying to win. Even when we all play non-competitive games like road hockey or touch football, everyone still keeps score. There is always a huge desire to win, even if winning gets you absolutely nothing in return. NHL players get paid far more in the regular season than they do in the playoffs, but the post season games are always much more intense. People want to win!

stpboy mentioned collusion in one of his posts. That is a totally different animal. That is cheating. In the few events I have played I found the poker to be fun and the skill level was very high. I seriously doubt any player would want to jeopardize his standing in the poker forum by getting caught cheating. The word here seems to travel very quickly and can be quite brutal at times. Collusion takes two people. I don't believe you would ever have two people going heads up at one of your tournaments who would ever do this. If it was ever offered up, I am sure the other person would spread the word so quickly the problem would be solved at the tournament right away.

The subject of chopping is very important to some people and meaningless to others. I do believe whatever stpboy and DrTyore decide should be followed as law. But I do believe keeping chopping out in the open is a much safer way to go.

If you are going to let their ruling bother you, take up Marks offer for the $10 buy out. It will save you a lot of unneeded stress in the long run.

But please think long and hard before you do. I intend to play a lot more of these and I intend to win the Triple Crown, with no chopping.

  • I want to first apologize to Trevor, for having such a great tournament turn into a spectacle. Next, I want to apologize to Mark and Shannon, for having to deal with all this. I do want to thank Mark though, for standing by his decision. I never read the threads from other places, other than the HOME GAMES, and only know about this because of Trevor's original post in Home Games.

I was not aware of all this talk about chopping, and never would have asked if I had known it would have caused this much choas. I only offered this as a chance for 2 player's, who played for 45 minutes heads-up evenly, to make the money a bit more even.

Again I apologize to those mentioned, as well as anyone who may have been effected by this decision.

I do want to say that whether the stakes are for $60 or $2000, I play the same way, to win!!!

Thanks to everyone who congradulated me on my win.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy
  • Jeremy,

You've no need to apologize.. if I thought for a second that this wasn't going to come down to a battle, I wouldn't have okayed it.

I think Jeremy summed it up greatly.

If the play was affected I would say it was affected more by the fact we had been playing for almost 12 hours when the chop occured. My play might have been affected by the 16+ beers I had during the day but that's another issue :) We had been playing heads up for almost 45 minutes. It was a tough battle by 2 players. Believe me 2 dealers playing heads up was probably similiar to 2+ hours in a casino game.

I would never have believed that the uproar over a $1 side bet to the triple crown pool would over shadow what was a great tournament.

Not to knock anything that Zithal does, but if MxM qualifies as a triple crown event (which is a blast but isn't "real" poker IMO) then certainly this agreement which was reached (for the money) and us playing it out should never be an issue after the length of time that was played. Most other tourney's are over in less than half the time we had played.

Nothing was done behind closed doors, it was done very openly and with consent of everyone involved. While Mark didn't need the heat he answered everyone involved and took it. GG there Mark.

Thanks again to Cook Crew for hosting and gg to 2Bullets who one day I will be on the winning end against.
  • OP updated. Please varify that you are on the list if you've won and had paid your buck. Congrats to all thus far.

  • "cough" "cough" sorry I got a little bit scratch in my throat.
  • OH yea.. Mario finally won a Bristol!

    Mark
  • Kind of excited to bring this up, but I won my first Bristol...and paid my buck!

I'm guessing there is probably some others who have won since May 8 who need to be added to the list also.

  • Nik '800Over' just became the first two win two legs of the infamous KW Triple Crown. One win at a Cook Crew event and the pot, which now sits close to $250, goes to Nik! Could this be an early Christmas gift for Nik and his wife or will he have to wait untill the new year to have a chance? I guess that depends on the Cook Crew.

    Congrats Nik!

Trying to find a date sometime in November, but will have it posted by the end of the month. Hopefully we'll be able to get back to regular status (crosses fingers)...
