  • Okay, everybody has been waiting for this fat guy to jump in the ring! I need some gambling to spruce up my weight loss program.

I am willing to put $50 on the line Wolf with you. I leave for my Japan hockey trip in early March. I would like to lose 15-20 lbs before I leave.. We could make it effective Feb 1st to say March 7th.

This way, the heat would be on? Maybe unrealistic, but who knows?

If you are unsuccessful, maybe you could make it a sumo wrestling tour?

well i dont get this...  but if u say so...

this is an ironic thread for me because for the last few months i have been playin online from a exercise bike.   im up money on the bike, but i have noticed bike tilt is different than normal tilt.  Im not down for losing weight (165 pounds), just getting in shape.   gl to everyone, remeber the diet is 50% of the battlle

    I like it...

You said you wanted some more trash talk, I know I donk'd some hands in the CPF tourney...so, I thought I'd start something.

I have played SNG's on the treadmill downstairs, worked out ok...just couldn't stick with it cause I'm a lazy ass, but, it was a fun way to exercise and play poker.

I'll tally everything up on Sunday and put up a final list/rules then.

Cory...I'm not going 50.00 heads up with each forum member...it'll go into a pool.

This has been funny, as I didn't think I'd get one response...let alone about 7-8 guys in so far.
  • OK....one fat guys opinion.....$50 is a little steep for me right now if you want it all this weekend? Along with trying to get in better shape I'm trying to also budget some sort of future for my family and with the Ryder Cup in Feb the 'fun' budget is tight. Judging by the responses if we have 8-10 people in it is $20 or $25 not enough to still make it worthwhile? I know $160-250 is worthwhile to me?

That said, I'm cool with weighing in Feb 6th, the sooner the better...or if you like, since some of you will be at my place Sunday, we could weigh in at halftime? I also agree with Mark, April is a bit soon to really see results? I say May 24 earliest but June 1 or even Canada Day is a good bet, I think 5-6 months is needed to really see results and see who is dedicated, it's easier to starve for a few weeks then it is to change old habits and get in a better routine for a healthier lifestyle.
  • I agree with Big E that $50 is a little too much to chew here ... pardon the pun. I see that you are trying to use the "pain" of putting the $$ up as the motivation, but if you can get a good group of people then the reward $$ should provide enough motivation. I think that $20 x a bunch of us would be a good price. I actually started last night, I know it might hurt my starting number, but hopefully I can hit the ground running after the official weigh in. Looking forward to a lot of SAS (inside joke for WPP ers).
  • For $20, I'd join and just eat donuts all day.. there's like no motivation..

Why not propose something where you can put in from 0->$100. And treat anyone putting in less as being 'all-in' and only eligible for that portion (# of entries * buyin) of the pot. The rest goes to 2nd place assuming they still have 'chips' remaining.

This way, people who can actually get away with a $20 for a motivation factor can play along with the guys that need to pony more cash to put down the chocolate bar.

    A good idea!
  • You guys are hilarious.
  • Well all_aces, I figured this would be a much better group to try to do this with than attend the WW meetings with a bunch of stretchy pant wearing blue hairs.

They don't want to part with their bingo money for side bets...

This group on the other hand...they'd bet on anything.

I need to lose the weight and this will hopefully be the motivation I needed to do it. Nothing like the fear of public humiliation to drive one towards their goals.

Come June 1st, we can start placing the bets on keeping the weight off!!!!!
  • Can we start making sidebets after the weight-in to see who will win? :D
  • It would be funny if there were like 10K sidebets on this... but I think the whole "honesty" angle would discourage any big action. Pardon the pun.
  • I'm in for $20 altho I have lost 50 lbs already from September.  I wanted another 20 gone so what the hell.

edit: What is the finish date? I vote for April 1 but that's because when I lost the 50 I did that in about 2 months.
  • Is there still time to get in on this bet? Are the start/end dates confirmed?
  • Ok boys...we are up to 20.00 on the second bet with theProphet22...GTA has already put up 100.00 on his own.

Sandro and I are in for 10 each, looking for another 80.00 to help motivate Brent some more...
friends of the WestSide man step up to the plate...(no pun intended)
  • I'll spot a ten-er for the big guy to drop 100 lbs..

I'll make it $50 if he loses "beanie42".

    Mark
  • So from what I am gathering Brent is not in the Main Challenge?
  • No Brent isn't because he wants to lose 100lbs in a year and the 20.00 thing didn't interest him (see double cheeseburger comment)
So, his money wasn't considered in the pot. Its a side bet but, on the list for support purposes.

If this isn't right Brent, let me know.
  • I'll throw in $10 for Brent to lose his 100lbs...

    Thanks for the clarification Wolff.

    Good Luck Brent and all.
  • I'm ready for this and it's been a long time coming. Took some before pictures that I'll spare you from and a pic of my initial weight on the scale. My roomate ordered a bowflex revolution so I'll see how well that works out, otherwise it's back to the gym.
  • Go away and miss a damn good thread!
Has this started? Can I still get in?
My "Bulbous Body" could use a challenge
    Even with a late start!
Let me in or I'll sit on you!!!

    Dave
  • You are in Dave, you and Chugs were the last signee's.

The roster may change if people don't pay up by the 18th.

  • Best of luck to all of you!

BigE and Wolffhound (and anyone else interested)...how's about re-starting our road hockey games?   Maybe some of the CPF guys (in this weight-loss pool or otherwise) might be interested...get a big parking lot, lots of running around trying not to get slashed or cross-checked by a certain Bruins fan (kidding E)...that'd be conducive to weight loss and general health methinks.

Heck...could even start WAGERING on these games hahaha!  That'd get some folks out...hell, I'll even keep stats so you can bet on point spreads.

Great idea...and I'm in if we can get a group together...but I don't cross check without my skates on...and I play net in road hockey to give all those who have tasted my stick a chance to wind up and fire at me! I will take you out at the knees if you come to close to my net tho!

I LOVE hockey but my skating is laughable at best - this sounds GREAT!  Scheduling could be a nightmare, but if the timing works, I'm good. Maybe set up a new thread to get some attention?

I also play goal if there isn't someone else doing it already, but I'll play anywhere.

As an aside, there is an outdoor rink at the community center near my church in the country (Bloomingdale) which has boards.  It's left up all year (nets too, I think), so it's a great place for road hockey when it isn't cold enough for ice (like the summer and this January :) ).  It is a bit of an extra drive (12 min from my place), but the boards may be worth it?
