Calling All Fat Boys - CPF's Weight loss Challenge

Legend has it that Doyle Brunson once won a million dollar bet that he could lose 100lbs.
Which is scary, cause dude isn't exactly svelte now.

I'm willing to wiegh in and gamble 25-50.00 with whomever for a set time period/weight loss challenge.
Our own CPF Biggest Loser (alright, no jokes HG, I already know you think i'm the CPF's biggest Loser)

Long and the fat of it is, I have to lose 25lbs. I'm not motivated enough to do it myself.

Anyone else willing to pony up some $...winner take all, who loses the most by April 1st?

  • Sure. But I want your home and work addresses so I can send you some Krispy Kremes.
  • I might be interested. Are we talking total lbs of flab? Or ratio?
  • I am a fat boy. % of body weight. I will take that on.
We need an official wrigh in date and scale.
  • I didn't think I had a gambling problem until I realized that I thought this was a good idea.

Anyone have the problem gaming hotline?

I'm already tempted by them at my brother's gas station every morning, as we still stock Krispy Kreme!!!!!!!

Ratio/Total lbs, doesn't matter to me.

For example, my current level of flab has me at 217lbs.  Lose 25 is ~ 8.5%.

% lost might be the best way to go about it, did we want to wait till the Royal Cup...I can bring the scale...
or do we trust each other enough to weigh in and not bullshit about it.

p.s. hope this isn't misuse of the CPF name...

    25 = 8.5 % are u sure??
  • lol...no wonder my pot odds calls are fked up.

Thanks for pointing out that I'm not only Fat...I'm dumb as well.

Lets figure out who wants to do this, and when we want to start. The sooner the better...May 24 and my speedo are waiting just around the corner.
  • I might be interested in joining in on this challenge. Most weight by April 1?? If you do the weigh in on Feb 18, that only gives about 6 weeks...25lbs in 6 weeks?? Me thinks that's asking alot. But pencil me down for being interested at the moment.

    Hey, came up with a slogan already..."Lose the POT...Gain a POT!" :D

217?!? Can I use your scale to tell my wife how much I weigh these days? My scale at home says 225, however the one at the Dr. says 242!
  • Wolff.. I"m in!

I think the "weigh in" at the Ryder cup thing is a good idea, but I also agree that April 1 is VERY soon.... maybe June 1st is more reasonable? We could weigh in again, and then go celebrate the winner on my birthday!!

  • I can stand to start shedding the winter fat. Count me in.

ummmm, eeewwwww. I'd partake I need to shake about 30lbs off my fat ass!
  • Is there a correlation of fat to the amount of poker we play.  Maybe poker is the next cancer.  :D

We could celebrate with a case of beer, a box of donuts, and a few pepi's with double bacon, then we can all have the joy of repeating this!
  • Hey.. any bet that's good the first time is worth doing twice!

  • Hmmmm, I'm 6'1" and weigh in at just under 160 pds. Maybe in true Ted Forrest Fashion we could set up some totally unhealthy and ridiculous prop bet, where the forums' most underweight members will try and swap weights with the FOrums' heaviest members.

I'd be willing to forego exercise for a couple months. I can hardly wait to tell my girlfriend.

    Cheers
  • Skinny people need not apply dinobot.

Ok, cutoff is this sunday, $50.00, if we get more then 10 people, Top 2 pay, less than 10, winner takes all and buys pizza on April 1st.

We will individually weigh in on Monday at 5pm-ish. Clothing optional, but, don't be wearing your workboots when you
step on the scale, don't be cheating and weighing in at night and posting morning scales on Mondays.

Results will be posted weekly, by %'s so as to not share what we all weigh...in case that offends anyone. (like the readers)

NO RAKE...but, you might want to get yours out and do your fking lawn's.
Sounds like we all need the exercise.

Sandro, I appreciate that Poker is the new cancer...but, I was fat long before I found another excuse to sit around and do nothing.

PM me if you are in for sure. I'll post the list during the day on Monday and all have to pm their starting weight Monday evening.
This way you/we can all fatten up on Super Bowl Sunday and then start working it off.

For the record I've contacted my attorney, and you simply can't exclude me for being different. However, I know when I'm not wanted, good luck guys.

On a side note, if any of you are taking part in this out of real concern for your health, and a hope to make some positive changes, than my good luck goes for double. However, those of you who are just hard core gamblers and plan to go to some real extremes to try and take this thing down, than please PM me. I'd like to set up some side action.

    Cheers
  • Good luck fatties! Hahaha, no really. I know of no more then 5 other forumers that should visit this link and consider the challenge. Of course, I do have lots of love for big guys. I gave Brent Wilson a big hug the other day, it wouldn't have felt as cuddly if he wasn't tippin 3 bills (the man is 7' tall!).

Serisouly though, try your best I'm pulling for ya!

    stp
  • Congrats on trying to get healthy!!!! Anything that makes more room at a poker table, I'm all for!!

I'd like in as well. I don't consider myself "fat", but I could stand to loss 8-10 lbs, and work on my cardio and endurance.

What can of program are you guys into? Pumping iron? Jogging around the neighbourhood? Chasing the wife around the coffee table? Flag football? (Seriously Mark, it's almost warm enough!) Even a couple of games of Road Hockey would help!

    Good luck to all!!

    JohnnieH

ps.....I didn't know Shannon was such a Chubby Chaser!!
  • I'd be willing to forego exercise for a couple months.

For the love of god, don't change your schedule. Once you realise how free life can be without the gym you'll never go back.

Anyway, good idea Wolfy.. My only comment is that you should combine cardio with weight training (more muscle burns more calories).. The problem is that by using weight only as a measuring stick, you penalize the people making actual healthy progress (muscle weighs more than fat).
  • Great contest, Wolff! Sadly, I've already started and have been back on the program since Jan 3rd. So far, so good as I'm down 9.2lbs so far. Currently at 213.4 and aiming to get back to 180. (A feat I thought impossible until I did it for the first time.)

Making your goals public is a great way to keep yourself honest and motivated and you'll find that friends help to keep you honest if you share it with them. I lost my shyness in discussing my weight loss a while ago.

I can't recommend Weight Watchers enough as it dropped me from 240 to 180 in six months the first time I went on the program.
  • I think the pot should be divvied up based on multiple aspects

    1. Weight loss in pounds
    2. Weight loss in %
    3. Before / After effect.. perhaps judged by impartial panel of judges, with some pictures taken before and after...

Just cuz this way, it's not just 100% on weight lost, since as BBC mentioned, that's not fully "realistic". I am already fairly active, and know that I will not drop the "water weight" first 10 pounds like most. My vote is that we weigh in at the Royal cup, take some snapshots, and then compare in a reasonable time (again, I think June)

  • Glad this might take off a bit.
I did start myself during/after Christmas as I got back up to 230 over the holidays.
I was at 260 when I got married back in 1994, so, I didn't want to do that again.
I'm under 220 now in the a.m. naked coming out of the shower...but, need to get REAL serious about it.

You are right about cardio and weights BBC...but, this is a start.  Short of calling the idiots from Bodybreak, we'll have to go with the % of weight lost.
Zithal, you are right about WW, did it twice, lost 30 lbs twice, gained it all back cause I like beer and pizza too much.  But, the program works.

This isn't intended to be pure animals gambling, but, wtf, we all need some motivation.

I'm 36, already on blood pressure stuff, have a job that sucks and spend too much time sitting on my ass.
Heart attack is around the corner, so, lets get it on.
  • Okay.. seriously.. this is what we should do.

Measure body weight. Everyone should have another forum member confirm the starting weight as of MONDAY FEB. 6.
Have everyone take some sort of body shot photo, probably the good old swimsuit shot (I know it's embarrassing guys, but imagine how good you'll feel in a few months!)

Begin various dieting / workout regimes.

Re-weigh in and compare to the "before" photo on the agreed upon end date (I still think April is too soon... I push for June!)

    Sound good?

So Mark finally reveals his fantasy of seeing other guys in swimsuit :D
Honestly guys, I want to wish you guys all the best. I would join this but I already started working out and is aiming for muscle building rather then losing weight. Always great to strive for a healthier living style!
  • Alright, I'll confirm here and now. I'm with Tyore (he IS a Dr. ), April 1 is just too soon to make a real impact. I would rather make it June 1. Either way, I'm in.

As far as getting a body shot done....I don't think so!! There ain't a wide angle lens wide enough!!!

A few years ago, I lost considerable weight doing the walking regime. I'm sure my little pup would love me to start that up again too. Food is my biggest downfall...I just love my ribs, chicken, poutine, chips, beer, pizza, and potatoes. I can see an awful lot of green leafy crap in my future.

If we are going to honour system the weigh in, though, I'm going to have to do it at work. There I know the scales are calibrated, and I'll have witnesses galour (and alot of smirks and nasty comments). I do hope we are all mature and serious enough about this to give honest starting weights.
  • Well, regardless.. I"m in.... I just like to make sure that it's as even as possible.

So how about a compromise? 1/2 the pot to the biggest weight loser / body % loser, and 1/2 the pot to the person who has most improved their physique? I know that it doesn't take much to start putting muscle mass back on for me, and I'm sure there are others like that as well.

We can always do a "if you want in on THIS bet" bet...

I still stick by the June 1st end date, and the start date of Feb 6 (this monday)... so what do we want to do... Wolfffhound? Your idea.. your call.

    Mark
  • Hey I might be in for this!

I basically stopped going to the gym to get more time on the poker table and this needs to change! I was a 3 times a week regular, now I only go on Mondays. Some invited me to think about there regular Monday night game, I almost quit the gym altogether. I need more exercise.

Combine Poker and exercise......... I love it!
  • If you lose a hand, you must run 2 laps around the table!!!
