2. Stay focussed in Tourney's when I go deep. Lately, I have found myself in contention only to make a critical, and often very avoidable error at the wrong moment. Â
3. Be honest with myself about where I am as a player. I had a very good run toward the end of 05, which saw me build a bankroll that gave me a false sense of my skills. I did not protect that money the way I should have, and now most of it is gone. I hear over and over that players go broke from time to time, but good luck gave me an inch of rope and I opted to hang myself.
4. In light of goal three, I will try more diligently to track my stats, even if it's just on paper.
5. Represent well in the Ryder cup, and bring home the hardware for London.
6. Continue to study limit hold em, and try to incorporate some new games into my life, both to decrease my occassional boredom with hold em, and to improve my skills at hold em.
2. to improve my mtt game. i'm going to play 250 mtt's this year and keep meticulous records. i've also purchased both of harringtons books to help with this endeavor.
1) Play more live local events.
2) Host a local event (other than my standard one table home games), wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, say no more, say no more
3) Accomplish 1&2 with a new baby in the house.
4) Keep improving and build the roll.
5) Keep the Monty Python references to a minimum as the wife hates them.
With Sloth starting a thread for next year (see http://pokerforum.ca/showthread.php?t=10958), I thought I'd bump last year's for anyone who wants to comment on how they did.
Good idea Joe. Mine are:
1) Win a 1000+ MTT
2) Learn to play cash/ring games
3) Increase my bankroll by 5x
4) Pay for a family trip to Disney from my winnings
5) Keep things balanced (family/work) while playing more
1) My best/biggest finish was 4th and 7th out 2000, and 1st out of 180. While I didn't accomplish my goal, I'm still pleased, but I think the goal might be a bit too lofty (now that I realize how much luck you need in large fields).
2. Accomplished, although I feel like my tournament game has suffered a bit because of it. Still haven't made a return to fixed-limit, but I'm doing pretty good at NL as well as mixed games (Razz, HORSE, 7s, etc.).
3. Done, then undone (see #4).
4. :wav:
5. I believe I have, although only my wife can say for sure
1. Win a Bristol Street Classic: even Registering for a BSC is a challenge let alone winning one, but a goal is a goal.
2. Open one more online account, at PokerStars.
3. Play (and Money) in a Casino Tournament.
4. Play more online satellites, and qualify for something "big" (WSOP?)
5. Learn more games. Omaha, Omaha LO, whatever.
6. Have my bankroll make my Vegas trip a freeroll.
Holy cow, I totally forgot about this thread!
1. DONE! Bristol 23!
2. Yep, did that, plus a few more.
3. Nope, although I did break my casino virginity, so that's something.
4. Did play a few sats, but didn't qualify for anything.
5. I have learned to love and hate PLO.
6. I did have enough to hit Vegas, alas I spent the cash on a Wii. Maybe next year!
1/ Study more...more books, dvd's, and then re read them over again. This time, take notes!!
2/ Play more single table SNG's, and start playing more MTT's.
3/ Find out why the river card always seems to screw me
4/ Play more aggressively when called for. If anything, I tend to be much too passive most of the time. This MUST change!!
5/ Hold a charity game, or satellite to another charity game. This was a blast to organize, and I beleive everyone who participated in the last one, had a good time.
6/ Play some B&M games. Not necessarily casinos, but more of the undergroud club circuits in the area.
7/ RECORD EVERYTHING! TRACK EVERY CENT, WIN OR LOSE.
Okay here goes...retrospective is always positive, right?
1/ Yep, read alot ... still alot more to do though. No notes to speak of though
2/ My SNG is pretty good actually, money about 60% over the past year, and I have played a few MTTs but not near enough to warrant any kind of boast
3/ Still can't figure this out...damn river!
4/ Still needs work, but it's getting better
5/ ooops...missed that one...will have to do it again soon
6/ Did a few of these, even a couple of casinos.
7/ Started off great...tracked every dime...but got lazy. sigh
For the most part, I just want to get an understanding of where I am as a player....so tracking my play is my number 1 priority. Other than that, I'd like to play more live games, more live tournaments, and maybe start hosting a home game or two.
Tracking - check!
I created a spreadsheet myself, and tracked every tourney & ring game I played, both live and online. I found it very, very valuable to do so, and have started thinking about how to improve my spreadsheet so that I can analyze my strengths & weaknesses.
Play more live games - check!
I'm so glad I made the decision to play more live games in 2006. It's been such a fun year, and I've met a bunch of terrific people. Looking forward to more in 2007
Host some games - check!
We've hosted a few games this year....hopefully more next year.
Have to think a bit about what my 2007 resolutions should be....
For this year I have actually start tracking my progress win/loss, buy-in, etc. and found out I'm not as bad as I think as I'm. Not that I'm a great player.
1) Yup with Ching Hill and the trips to the casino done.
2) Done. I've played 1-2 NL, 2-5 NL (played this at the Bellagio) and 5-5 NL, and also play 5-10 Limit with no worries.
3) Done.
4) Done. I’ve read Little Blue and Green Books, Harrington on Hold'em 1, 2 and 3, Super System 1 and 2, and more.
1. Win something, I came close a few times in 2005, 2 seconds at Bristol, 2 seconds at Lucky Lou's live/online, 2nd at Beanies...I need a title, it won't bring respect to my weak-tight image...but, I'll feel better about my game
2. Continue to grow as an online player, read/win and repeat
3. Play (win, whore, Blackjack) my families way to Disney for 2007
4. Restrict my play to 20hrs a week, live or otherwise but still reach goal 3
5. FINALLY get the deal done on the purchase of the business and build the daylights out of that in 2006
2006 is guaranteed to be a year of change for my family as my job ends and a new career starts.
Great health and wealth to all forum members in 2006. You all helped make 2005 a great year.
1. Won Season 1 of the CHPC, MVP of Royal Cup II
2. don't believe I succeeded here, I blew/tilted/Blackjacked away alot of money this year. Still ahead on the year, but, certainly didn't improve as a player online
3. Done- we are in Disney April 20-27, 2007.
4. Restrict it...been on break since Sept/06 live. Back online in last 2 weeks.
5. Done- took possession 3/1/06 and love each and every day there.
Other changes...lost 37lbs...have kept it off.
I miss the live play. Hopefully I'll see you all at Royal Cup 3 in 2007.
Merry Christmas.
Since Trevor bumped the old post on how people did, let's see....let's go with 2006 goals.
1) Move my bankroll to 5 figures.
2) Money in the WSOP event #2
3) Have poker completely finance my #2 trip
4) Win the 100K great canadian poker tourney (if that ever happens)
Good Luck everyone
1) Bankroll went to mid 4 figures but didn't hit 5.
2) Due to circumstances beyond my control (weddings, kids, work) wasn't able to go
3) Did have the money to finance the trip
4) Never happened so I couldn't win it.
My goal is to continue getting a free poker education by going to the free bar tournaments.* Instead of getting very expensive lessons by gambling, I have had a steep learning curve from my mistakes without losing any money.
1) Win several more tournaments in the free Pirana Poker Tour to qualify for the grand championship where the winner gets a free U$10,000 seat to a WSOP event in Las Vegas!
Surpassed this goal. I set a record by winning more than 30 live tournaments (and gift certificates), which is 1/3 more than the second winningest player of all time. I also set a record by winning three straight "Winners Circle" championships (tournament winners from all regions battle every week to determine the best-of-the-best).
I won one of the 17 WPT seat/satellite prizes given out last season. I ended up winning a WPT satellite and realized my dream of playing at the World Poker Tour 8) much earlier than expected.
2) Win another tournament(s) in the free RHPT to qualify for the tournament to be Daniel Negreanu's protege.* I won a tournament last month, getting gift certificates and a hat.
Surpassed this goal. I won a couple of 96-person tournaments. I qualified to play in the Negreanu Protege semi-final. However, I was very disappointed that my idol Negreanu corrupted the Protege final table by bribing some of the finalists into quitting and removing their chips from the table.
3) Win a tournament at NPT ($10 minimum bar order) to qualify for the 500-person tournament that is supposedly for a free seat and session with Antonio Esfandiari.
Done. I only played a couple of their tournaments, but managed to qualify at the last possible tournament. I was one of the chip leaders in the 100+-player semi-final, but did not make it to the final 3 players who won a seat to the championship final table.
4) Win a tournament at PK and qualify for the championship tournament.
Done. I don't think I won a tournament, but managed to play in their championship.
Play in more live cash games or rake-free SNG tournaments where there are worse players than me.
Done. Made money in underground cash games and tournaments.
Once I have earned my free undergraduate degree in poker, start playing with real money in the casinos and online whoring.
I have only played live, and I haven't found the time or inclination to play online. Playing cash games at the Niagara casinos is the only place that I have lost more money than won.
2006 "Inflection Point": When I made it to the top two at only the second time I played at the West Side Poker Club, I knew that playing in the freeroll poker tours had prepared me well for money games. Two WSPC tournaments later, I made it to the final two again and split the money. Other poker-related highlights for 2006 include:
- Being one of the few people to make money at the WPT at Fallsview by winning my own seat and selling my extra seat for a big profit.
- Winning satellites to the Pokerbowl, WSPC $240 tournament and Casino Rama Fall Classic.
- Playing in what is supposed to be a low-stakes cash game with a maximum buy-in of only $60, but broke virtually everybody in the table and walked away with over $1,200!
- Being captain, general manager, scout and chief strategist of the Royal Cup II champions. Our team was probably the least experienced in Stud, Omaha and Limit, but we maximized our live poker skills to take down the championship.

Hey, I'll be there! Anything I can do to help you set it up, just let me know. As far as where you stand as a player...you're holding your own nicely.
I think I would also add playing some bigger tourney's as well. Maybe hit a couple of West Side's games in the KW area.
1. Play more live tourney's.
2. Stay focussed in Tourney's when I go deep. Lately, I have found myself in contention only to make a critical, and often very avoidable error at the wrong moment. Â

Good luck this year kids.
Cheers
2. to improve my mtt game. i'm going to play 250 mtt's this year and keep meticulous records. i've also purchased both of harringtons books to help with this endeavor.
3. participate more at pokerforum.ca!
1. Win back the $500 I lost playing poker in 2005
2. Have a large enough bank roll to be playing 1/2 Limit by 2007.
3. Letting go of my fancy play syndrome
4. Creating a really cool card capper ( I'm leaning towards a golden $ symbol or a giant Tuna ).
Cheers,
Steve
2) Host a local event (other than my standard one table home games), wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, say no more, say no more
3) Accomplish 1&2 with a new baby in the house.
4) Keep improving and build the roll.

5) Custom labels for my poker chips that match my card capper.

Update:
1) Better at PT yes - work in progress tho.
2) Did it - and cashed!
3) the year ain't over yet but not completed as of todays date
4) Ive read at least 5 new ones this year (and I can check my typos better now too )
