Thanks Scotty, now that I think about it, it's better to be bluffing than calling or folding. Looked like a good flop to bluff at with ace high... had been working for me before... oops... lol.
I'm pretty buzzed out right now. That is by far my biggest tourney win ever.
I came on line to register for the Rebuy at stars and checked out the final table of the $200 nl. When I started watching there was 7 left. Excellent result and nicely played. Look forward to some hand reports.
Congrats!
Thanks for the kind words! I just woke up, feeling pretty damn good. Well, not tip top, because I got absolutely hammered last night after the win. (Truth be told, I wasn't *completely* sober during the tournament, either....)
I've got the Stars transcript of every hand I played on the way to my second place finish, and I'm going to sort through it. I'll pick out hands that were interesting to me, or pivotal in some way, and I'll post them here for us to have a look at by tonight.
I'll probably translate the hands into 'English' so they're easier to read. As I recall, I played a much more aggressive game than I usually do, and hopefully the transcript will illustrate how and why.
it's better to be bluffing than calling or folding
Please disregard this line. It makes absolutely no sense.
Regards,
all_aces
Well, take out "or folding" and it makes sense, and is a pretty good general statement.
Truth be told, I wasn't *completely* sober during the tournament, either....
I knew it! I could tell because you were laughing at some of my jokes.
Hmmm... drinking while winning $33 grand might lead to dubious thinking...
"Let's see, winning $33,000 seems to be correlated with drinking. Hmmm... Barkeep!"
I'll pick out hands that were interesting to me, or pivotal in some way, and I'll post them here for us to have a look at by tonight.
You've definitely got to post that hand near the end where you called someone's *very* small all-in raise from the BB (around 10K more to call from the 20K BB) with A5 and the guy you beat was berating you for playing it. That was a pretty clear call (as you said in the chat, you "got the right price"). The most interesting thing about that hand however, is how *brutally* your opponent (same one who was cheesed of that you played A5 I think) played that hand.
That will be awesome to see some of the tournament hands though. Looking forward to it!
So, if anyone wants to take a look at some hands from the tournament, here they are, for better or for worse. And I imagine some of them will be 'unusual'. I wouldn't have deposited any money at Stars, if not for the fact that we're having our pokerforum tourneys there.
So, I deposited $500 there a couple of weeks ago, played a bunch of tournaments, and generally broke even. I really wanted to play in yesterday's $215 NL tourney, but couldn't justify spending that much of my 'Stars bankroll' on one tournament. I decided to play a single table $50 buy-in tourney yesterday morning, and if I won it, I'd use the winnings to buy into the big one.
I won the single table tourney, and bought into the big one. It drew 1241 players, each paying $215, or getting in through a satellite. As you know by now, I came in 2nd, for a win of $33,750, or $46,125 Canadian. 8)
***WARNING THE FOLLOWING IS FOR POKER GEEKS ONLY***
There aren't many stories in the following... mostly just poker hands. Little stories for the last third, I guess. I marked the 'interesting' ones with an :!: . I didn't bother marking any of the ones towards the end. Because of the stakes, they were all interesting to me.... Basically once the chat with ScottyZ starts, I stop marking hands.

Hand #238 (78088)

Hand #241 (99988) 52 players left.
I'm UTG with a better hand--Ad 9d, which I fold.
Scotty says 'hey all aces, if the going gets tough, just remember that cool Pop Tarts guy'. I ask how Dave is doing, and nobody knows. Somebody says 'I think Dave is doing really good', without having a clue. I say that I hope so.
Level 16, 4000/8000 ante 400, 89488
Hand #248 (88688)

I'm MP with Ad Jd. Folded to me and I raise 16000. No callers.
Hand #257 (79488)
I'm UTG with Ac 9h and fold. Scotty asks what it means to 'sweat someone', or where the term came from. I say 'it means to watch or root for one particular player', and he says 'it's true that I'm sweating profusely, but that's got nothing to do with watching someone playing'. Lol. Scotty then proceeds to make fun of a player's picture, in which it looks like the man is eating his own nose.
Level 17, 6000/12000 ante 600, 65888 I am the second lowest stack at my table.
Hand #265 (63488)

Coin flip time.
Flop: 6c Ts 4d 8)
Turn: 3s
River: Js and I take it down. Some kind words from the observers, and I'm feeling much much better.
Hand #278 (122176)
I've done nothing for quite a while by my standards. Just moved to a new table, into late position. Someone says: 'hey all_aces, do it for the RGP! (the non spammers)' This eventually sparks a small '2+2 vs. RGP' contest, which is more or less like pocket 8's all-in preflop vs. AK.
Hand #281 (120976)
Someone says: 'i don't notice many big names in the final 27. must all be at wsop. except you all aces ' Lol.
Level 18, 10000/20000 ante 1000, 120376
Hand #284 (118376)
I'm comfortable with my chip count. There are 2 others at my table with similiar stacks, and one guy who has three times as much. Everyone else is shortstacked. This hand was the subject of 'controversy'.
I'm BB (for 20,000) with Ad 5c. UTG raises 12598 and is all-in. MP just calls the 32598. Folded to me, and I decide that with this pot, I should call the 12598, so I do. Three of us playing, one all-in.
Flop: Js 5d 5s. 8) Check check.
Turn: 2h. I bet 20000, MP calls.
River: 3d. I bet 64778 and am all-in. MP calls.
MP shows As Kh, UTG shows 8d 9d, and I win a MASSIVE pot.
ScottyZ said 'nicely played'. Someone else said 'callin 30K with A5? Man u gotta teach me!' I said 'lucky me', and then 'only 12K to call'. I said 'lots in already'. MP said 'keep playin that', and I said 'will do', 'for that price'.
Lol.
This hand gives me the chip lead. Not sure how many left, I think 2 tables? I now have 274350.
Hand #287 (273350)
People have now started to come to my defence re: the A 5o call.
I'm in the cutoff with Qc Ks. Folded to me, and I make it 60000.
MP from #284 is getting agitated, and he says 'go rail!'. Lol. He is the SB now, and he re-raises me all-in for 164315 more. I fold.
Hand #297 (173350)
A 'Chris Moneymaker: luck or skill?' debate has started on the rail. Ugh.
I'm MP with Qc Ks. EP raises 32268 and is all-in, I fold.
Level 19, 15000/30000 ante 1500, 160350 There are 3 much larger stacks at my table.

Flop: 9s 2h 6c
Turn: 3d
River: 5d
I'm down to around 49000. ScottyZ says 'great call, that's sick'. Someone says 'AJ sucksssssss'. Someone else says 'he shouldn't call your all-in with less than AK'. ScottyZ says 'so does A6'.
Hand #304 (48013)
I'm UTG with Kh 5h, and I move all-in. EP re-raises 43487. Headsup. I show my hand, EP shows As Qs. Someone says 'all_aces went on tilt', which is not true.
Flop: 7d Th 8s.
Turn: 5d. 8)
River: Ks.
EP says 'unreal'. There are 14 left.
Hand #306 (172526)
I'm SB with pocket 2's. UTG doubles the blinds and gets one EP caller. I fold.
Hand #309 (153026)
I have Jd Qd in MP. EP triples the blinds, I fold. (An LP player moved in after, and knocked EP off his hand preflop).
Hand #312 (118526)
I'm SB with Ac Ks. Folded to button who raises 60000. I re-raise 27026 more and am all-in. Button calls, and shows Ad Tc. Headsup.

River: 8h
And my ace high, king kicker is good.
Hand #314 (271552)
ScottyZ is going slowly off the deep end on the rail: 'I always get that Train song going through my head', and then 'Aaaaaaahhhhh ah ah ah aaaah, calling all aces' We're down to 11 or so.
Hand #317 (267052)
We're playing five-handed, which must mean we're down to 10 players. I'm in SB with Qd 2d. Folded to me, I raise 30000, and win the blinds.
Hand #319 (301552) I am in third place of the five people at my table.
I'm MP with Qh Th. UTG folds, I raise 30000, folded to SB who re-raises me all-in for another 708742. He has me more than covered to say the least so I fold. An observer says 'it's amazing how many of you can't play here'. Thanks for that.
Level 20, 20000/40000 ante 2000, 240052
Hand #323 (174052) Still in third place of the five of us.
I have Ad 6c on the button. Folded to me, and I fold.
Hand #324 (172052)
First hand at final table. I am second to last of the nine of us. No more observer chat is allowed; I guess not to distract us. I didn't mind it, though. ScottyZ sent me a PM through this site, wishing me luck.
Hand #329 (162052) Down to 8 players, I am still second last.
I have pocket 7's UTG and raise 120052 all-in. The other shortstack on the button calls. His stack was almost identical to mine, so one of us will truly double up, and the other will truly be out. He shows Qs Kd. 8)
Flop: Ad 4c 3d
Turn: 2s
River: (I had to close my eyes) Ts.
I am now 4th of 7.
Hand #338 (277876)
I have pocket 10's in the SB. Folded to me and I move in. BB folds, and I don't show my hand.
Hand #339 (449876)
I have Ad Qs on the button. A very big stack raises the minimum (40000) from the cutoff, and I fold. (?)
Hand #340 (447876)
I have Ah Kc in the cutoff. Folded to me and I raise 120000. No callers.
Hand #341 (519876) Still in 4th of 7.
I have Ah Jd in MP and raise 80000. No callers.
Hand #342 (591876) Now in 3rd of 7.
I'm second to act with Ad 9d. I fold. I figure that, after two preflop raises with no callers, someone is just itching to call me, and I don't want it to be on this hand.
Hand #344 (587876) Now 2nd of 7.
I have pocket Q's in the BB. Folded to SB who raises 80000. I reraise all-in, and he folds. I don't show my queens.
Hand #347 (695876) Still 2nd, now of 6.
Qd Tc in the cutoff. Folded to me, and I raise 40000. SB (chip leader) calls me. Headsup.
Flop: 7d 9c 3c. Check check. (Don't want to tangle with the guy who can bust me.)
Turn: Qh. (lucky me). SB checks, I bet 40000, and SB calls.
River: 8c. Flush card, check, check. SB shows 6c 8d for an open-ended straight draw, rivered pair of eights. My queens are good.
Hand #348 (712952) Still 2nd of 6.
I'm second to act with pocket 7's. I raise 40000, folded to SB--a shortstack--who re-raises me 81386 more all-in. An easy call for me. SB shows pocket 4's. 8)
Flop: Ks 9c Js
Turn: Qs
River: 3c
Down to 5. I'm still in 2nd, but very close to the chip leader, and the two of us are very far ahead of the other three.
Hand #351 (860338)
I'm on the button with pocket Q's. Folded to me and I raise my entire stack all-in. SB calls with a decent stack (437104). Headsup, and he shows Ad Ks. Coin flip.
Flop: 9c Jh 4c
Turn: 7h
River: (I had to close my eyes) 7s
We're down to 4, and I am the chip leader:
all aces: 1,365,442
Trabelsi: 1,029,823
homero: 396,915
Jenson: 310,320
Hand #352 (1365442)
I'm UTG with Kd 9d and raise 120000. Homero reraises his last 234915. I call, perhaps foolishly. homero has Ad 9s.
Flop: Ah 3d 7d
Turn: 4h
River: 6c
Ouch.
Hand #353 (968527) I'm now in 2nd, and top 3 are now very close.
I'm BB with Qd Kh.
Chip leader raises 200000 UTG. homero re-raises all-in, and doesn't get called.
Hand #362 (790527) I'm in third, with 4th place way behind us.
I'm in SB with Ac 7h. Folded to me, I raise 80000, BB folds.
Hand #365 (792527)
By this time, homero has knocked our other two opponents out, and we are heads-up. He has a big lead with 2,309,973. I considered asking for a deal, and changed my mind. I still don't know why....
I'm BB with Jc Kd. homero raises 160000, I re-raise all-in, and he folds.
Now that we're headsup, I say 'gg' (good game). He says 'thx'. I say 'whatever happened to the good old days of 'u2''?
Hand #369 (972527)
I'm BB with Js Qs. homero raises 160000, and I call.
Flop: 6s Ks Qc. I move in, he folds.
Hand #373 (1,088,527)
4d 6d in BB. homero raises 160000, and I call.
Flop: 3s Tc 8s. I bet 120000 and homero folds.
Hand #379 (980527)
Ac 3d in BB. homero raises 160000, and I call.
Flop: 9d 9c 5c. I move all-in, he calls.
He has Ah 9h and that's the end of the tournament! I say 'gg', and he just leaves.
Any comments appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed the hands! I read them over myself, and I think I could have been a tad more judicious in deciding which ones were worth posting. Regardless, it's nice to see this thread back in action again; IIRC, it took me a loooooooooooooooooong time to type/edit/etc...

Ah, SS caught lucky cards with 93o!

Pardon me, he's now 1st of 4 players as he just survived QQ vs AK all-in pre-flop.
ScottyZ
Now up to Guaranteed 22k! WOW! Better than WSOP money!
Next hands, Big stack (AA goes all in) and faces A8.
AA wins with trips!
Now up 33K Guaranteed money!
C'mon, take home the 55K! GO TORONTO GO!
In retrospect, I should have offered a deal. No biggie, though, I just wanted to play....
Made the wrong move at the wrong time, but that move is what got me to where I ended, at $33,750 USD, my biggest tourney win yet.
I played a lot more aggressively than I usually do in the mid-stages, and backed off a bit towards the end. Like I said, the wrong move. No regrets.
I'll post some hands here shortly... the most interesting ones for me happened before we were in the top 135 for the money.
Thanks for watching! Too bad no observer chat at the final table.
Regards,
all_aces
Bad luck on that last hand... it looked like a nice flop to make a move on, and I think you make a good play there.
Congrats!!!
BTW, I'm putting a $10,000 bounty on you for the first Pokerforum.ca tournament. 8)
ScottyZ
You made the right move at the wrong time.
ScottyZ
I'm pretty buzzed out right now. That is by far my biggest tourney win ever.

I came on line to register for the Rebuy at stars and checked out the final table of the $200 nl. When I started watching there was 7 left. Excellent result and nicely played. Look forward to some hand reports.
Congrats!

Please disregard this line. It makes absolutely no sense.

Well, take out "or folding" and it makes sense, and is a pretty good general statement.
I knew it! I could tell because you were laughing at some of my jokes.
Hmmm... drinking while winning $33 grand might lead to dubious thinking...
"Let's see, winning $33,000 seems to be correlated with drinking. Hmmm... Barkeep!"
ScottyZ
Your buddies must hate you.
Way to go!! 8)

I'm second to act with Ah 8h. UTG folds, and I raise 8000. No callers.

I'm BB with 7c 4s. Folded to SB who calls. I check. Headsup.
Flop: Qd 2c Th. SB bets 8000, I raise 16000. SB calls.
Turn: 4h. Check check.
River: Td. SB bets 24000, I fold.
Hand #254 (65488)
These blinds are killing me. I'm UTG with Ac 2c and raise 12000. MP re-raises me about 72000, so I fold. Ugh.
Hand #267 (26288)
I'm SB with Qd Td. Folded to me and I go all-in. The BB folds.
Hand #268 (42488)
ScottyZ says 'nice bet'. I say 'it's the only one i got'. He says 'hang in there, guy'.
I'm on the button with As Kc. Folded to me and I move in. No callers.
Hand #269 (64688)
I'm in the cutoff with pocket 6's. Folded to me and I move in, for the third hand in a row. SB calls me (he has me covered). SB shows Ah Kh.
Hand #302 (157350)
I'm LP with Ad Js. UTG raises 76337 and is all-in. Folded to me, and I call. (?) Headsup. UTG shows As 6s 8)
Headsup.
Flop: 9c 2h 6s
Turn: Jd

So a deal would most likely be like 40K to AA and 48K to Homerero. give or take 2K.
LMAO, I booked marked that thread and read it over, along with other hand postings, my wife laughs at me everynight and say's "Your a Geek"
