Thanx, I did take my dad to vegas 2 years ago, and my mom to the Dominican for the millions event. They keep asking when will i win the next package.

I am going to Vancouver for a month, I always wanted to live there so this is going to be a cool experience. I will still grind a decent amount over there. Hopefully Vegas for next year.
  • Any pic/link of blind structure?

Is it same starting stack for the Tues 165 and the Sunday 550?

    Thanks

I was there this evening and asked that question specifically. The sup told me they haven't printed anything as yet because they are still adjusting. Hopefully they don't make it worse, ie rake it heavier. It sounds good the way it is. At the moment both tournaments have the same structure and starting stacks.
  • Can we register online/over the phone? Whats the maximum number seats for these tourneys?

Max is 150 (15 tables). I think you can only register in person day of tournament, but I could be wrong.
  • You can phone but they charge you 2% extra for the privilege. It hasn't been close to selling out yet so register the day of.

It seems they have been doing a great job but the surcharge is stupid. If everyone registers at the last minute then they will not know how many dealers to have in advance.

There is a reason most home hosts offer a bonus for early registration and we don't have to provide dealers. We are not stupid.

If it's the same method as the WPT events, the surcharge is likely for using a credit card. They charge that if you use a credit card in person too. It sucks but it's because they have to pay a surcharge. A possible solution would be if you could register multiple people in person. I don't know if they allow that or if you have to register yourself.
  • Think I will sticky this one for a while so people who play can post their thoughts, look at DJ's post earlier in the thread, I added the blind progression which seem awfully good for such a small buyin.
  • Anyone playing tomorrow?

  • Next Tues. Lets do it.
  • I'm going to the tournament tomorrow. Probably head down around noon. Anyone else going to be there?

I'm assuming that I don't have to register early - these haven't been filling up to max, have they?
  • If we get a couple more guys from here I will come donate some money.
  • I forgot about this. What time does it start?

12:30 and I think late registration for first 5 levels.

I arrived at 12:45 due to traffic on the highway (a woman's car broke down on the side of the road and there was a tow truck so it was pretty exciting and everyone had to slow down and check it out obviously) and late registered. You have to sign up through the cage which is a little annoying, but at least you can rebuy (for the first five levels) in the poker room.

My table was great. We had people shoving/busting/rebuying like crazy. Practically all the people busting off other tables kept rebuying and coming to the open seats at my table. However, I ended up not having the greatest tournament (an understatement). I won a couple small pots before my first big hand. I was dealt 5c6c in the SB and I called a min raise and saw a 5 way flop of 7c4hJc. I ended up missing everything after raising on the flop and calling on the turned deuce.

My busto hand was boring too. All in preflop QQ<KK. Obviously the guy who just busted by 4betting AJo preflop and rebought in again had the goods this time. I was so close to folding because I had a feeling but I couldn't. I wasn't really feeling all that great so I decided to not rebuy.

There were over 146 runners when I left with like 15 minutes left for rebuys. Some regs at my table were complaining about the tournament structure saying that last Tuesday they didn't even get to final table until 9pm. For a $165 buy-in ($15 fee + $4.50 players fee (whatever that is)) it's definitely a slow structure. Players were saying it should probably be a little faster than the bigger Sunday tourney.

On my way out, I stopped at the restaurant by the main entrance (can't remember its name) and bought a reuben sandwich which was actually really good. I immediately regretted not staying for at least a little while longer for some cash games because apparently buying into the tournament only does not qualify you for free parking - fuck me - lesson learned.
  • Thanks for the trip report. Any idea what first paid?

It's unfortunate that you didn't play cash. Tables always good there. Usually better on tournament days

Top payout was over $6K when I left.

Yeah I've played cash on the Sunday during the tournament. Definitely juicy.

  • I went to this a couple of weeks ago, they announced that all tourney players would have parking covered. I had not parked at casino so can't verify that.

Guess I was just unlucky then.

  • I played this Tuesday as well. They ended up with 159 entries total. Top 22 places were paid. They handed out a detailed information sheet of the total money collected, all the deductions from the pool, and the payout for each position. I had a look at it at the tournament but unfortunately did not bring a copy home.
Parking was paid for. All you had to do was give the parking attendant your players card when you left the garage. You only had to play the tournament, nothing else. All the players cards numbers are entered into the system when you register for the tourney.

All in all a very enjoyable tournament. Very well run...tables were quickly balanced... blind levels changes were always announced.
Excellent dealers who enforced the rules. One rule that kept coming up concerned the "no talking or asking questions of an opponent during a hand". Which kept the game moving and avoided trash talking.
When antes kicked in, each person had to ante instead of having a big blind ante or a button ante as a lot of casinos are now doing.
A couple of dealers told me the organizers are considering a change to speed up the game.
A huge mix of players as well. A number of females...and all ages up to about 85. All types of playing styles. One woman at my table kept opening for 3100 (apparently her favourite number) even though the blinds were only at 50-100. Many good players, some I recognized from playing at tournaments at a club in Scarborough.
I busted out in about 42nd place, having gone card dead the last hour or so of my tournament life. This was after about 5 hours of play. My best starting hand of the entire tourney was J-J. Only reason I lasted so long was one hand where I was dealt J-10 of hearts and called a 2.5 X raise. Flop came A,Q,5 of hearts. I slow played, checking the flop. Q of clubs on the turn. Other player had K-Q, giving him 3 queens. He shoved...I called...blank on the river doubling me up. Card dead from then on. Will return either next week or the week after.
  • I guess it was just my player's card having issues. I think I need to get a new one.
