  • I should have stayed out of this thread. Rogers is punishing me now. Cel reception has been crap all day and for the last half hour we had no interweb or cable tv.

You have to use your cable "one-time dealer" to deactivate the cable doom switch, obv
  • Side story. My Mom likes the show Outlander, but Canada is four weeks behind the U.S. it has taken me seven weeks, but she finally got it herself last night.
I'm so proud. They grow up so quickly.
  • For Christ sake, you're making me angry just reading that list of shows! I hate every single one of them and my wife watches every single one of them you just listed. There's something funny going on here..

    Yep.

Coming up next on The Learning Channel: (insert fucking retarded mind numbing show name here)

i remember when the learning channel actually had shows on it that taught you things. guess there's no money in educational television. just give the masses their crap to watch.

And, just to be completely certain Bill's head explodes . . . Say "Yes" to the Dress, or "Sex Sent Me to the ER", or the show(S) with the midget families.
  • F off pricks! ;)

I defy you to explain the following
    Any fishing show
    Any extreme sports coverage
Any show about fixing houses not on HGTV
    Any show about cars
Any show about being lost/surviving extreme conditions
    Any show about murderers
    Total, mind-numbing, stupidity.

I assume you're not intentionally excluding DIY network. Because sledgehammers are fucking awesome.

Does terrible things to the project list though

Fishing shows? Dumb. Even when I fished, I thought this way.

Extreme sports? Niche market, but somebody has to drink the Dew . . .

Car shows (other than Barrett-Jackson, that event is GOLD) are dumb.

Bear Grylls is a fucking moron who will get people killed. Survivorman ROCKS, and is probably the ONLY reality show that is actually, you know, REAL.

    Murderers? Really? DUMB.

Also dumb are the plethora of scavenger and pawn shows.
  • I have read that 3 times and I still can't find the explanation.
  • Explanation? Okay, how about this quote from P.T. Barnum . . .

"Nobody ever lost a dollar by underestimating the taste of the American public".

Or this one, which is not entirely on point, but you get the idea . . .

"If you nail together two things that have never been nailed together before, some schmuck will buy it from you."

    George Carlin
  • i remember the days when i was able to hack Dish Network and Direct TV I had a great number of good TV shows. then. They changed to a new satt and now it is game over and I am not paying for shitty Canadian cable.

I defy you to explain the following
    Any fishing show
for old people who can't go fishing anymore. also for showing off new lures and other crap. personally, they are incredibly boring.
    Any extreme sports coverage
define extreme. i'll watch skateboarding i guess depending. extreme sports are popular because people like having the chance to see their fellow man hurt, maimed, or killed. personally, i don't like seeing real blood.
Any show about fixing houses not on HGTV
agreed. they are all crap. no one wants to watch them.
    Any show about cars
i never understood why guys love their cars so much. i'm assuming because it's generally the biggest purchase they make in their lives that they have complete control over (as we all know that the women have all the say as to how the house should be decorated, organized, and so on). personally, i find them incredibly boring also.
Any show about being lost/surviving extreme conditions
as someone who recently started an end of the world/apocalypse thread i thought you'd enjoy these shows. some are good (like survivorman who is the shit), and some are horrible (like bear, or berh or bare or whatever that douche's name is). personally, i find something romantic about the thought of surviving on the land and i enjoy learning how. it's like getting back to nature in a sense and we all know that men are more barbaric than women, so it makes sense.
    Any show about murderers
real life murders? they can be pretty boring because the vast majority of the time the police thought it was the brother and it turns out it was sort of thing. now the ones about serial killers or psychopaths - those i sometimes find interesting. i'll occasionally watch a documentary about a previous serial killer. recently watched one about jeffery dahmer. zodiac killer was always incredibly impressive. green river killer as well. i can't explain why people like this shit. probably because they are sick in the head (myself included).

    drunken canadian humour. enough said.
  • I should clarify, since you and Milo took the same meaning from Lost/Survivor shows...

I mean, "John Doe and his wife Jane were heading off for what should've been a relaxing mountain stay with friends when disaster struck" followed by half an hour of them being stranded in their car in 16 feet of snow and drinking their own pee for two days until they are towed out. NOT Survivorman, which I've seen, and enjoyed.

i didn't even know they had shows like that. yeah, that sounds like crap.
  • You might also like Naked and Afraid. They put a guy and a girl into a Survival situation. Twist is that both are buck nekkid, and are only allowed to bring 1 item.
  • Thanks to compuease for mentioning he's on Cogeco's 150 GB plan. Cogeco told me several times before about Turbo 14 and Turbo 20, but neglected to inform me until today that I could have upgraded awhile ago to compuease's plan for lower cost! :mad2:

Faster downloading and more porn, here we come! >:D
    Cable tho.

Enjoying this discussion immensely... But it's "cable tho"
  • How can you live with 150gb?
I had to upgrade from 350 when we hit it by the 10th for the third month in a row.

I gotta go rethink my life.

sources say that comp's GB per month dropped right around the time he became a GOLD MEMBER at Bill's House of Gambling and Porn .

pretty sure chaimr1924 agrees with me...
  • Burlesque is not porn. :D

Good show. Just about as 'real' as reality gets.
  • Running Netflix as of today through Western Digital TV Live box via hdmi to Denon AVR1713 via hdmi to Panasonic viera.

Video's great on the screen, but no audio from avr1713. Any thoughts?

Netflix troubleshooting online is horrible. Two suggestions, then the old 'did this help you?' 'NO' 'thanks for your feedback' popup.
  • no sound through the wd box at all, or just through netflix?
  • I'm not sure since you haven't given us much in the way of detail as to what you have tried or eliminated but make sure the tv is set to external speakers or perhaps home theatre. If it was a pc I could login remotely.. ;)
  • Bfillmaff wrote: »

Just Netflix. Can run xvid, mkv no problems from wdtv box (per usual). Try running anything stereo or Dolby 5.1 on Netflix and it says 'loading', runs the video but there's no audio.
  • I think Netflix defaults to stereo, is there an options menu or the like where you can select surround sound? Not sure that Netflix supports dolby. Do you perhaps have a blue ray player you can connect it through?

Honestly, I didn't think there would be many variables to adjust Comp in terms of what I'd have to try or eliminate. The input via hdmi should be sending both audio and video to the receiver, then it should be pooping out signals to TV and speakers. I've always had the TVs audio shut off as I'm a bit of an audiophile and can't listen to the speakers included with a TV.

Edit: Just wondering what video/audio format Netflix runs in. WDTV hasn't had any problems playing anything thus far, but maybe this is a first? I have to assume it's something pretty standard.

Just saw this post. Netflix appears to give the option of stereo (Ugh) or Dolby 5.1 depending on the show and availability (I have to assume almost everything would be avail in D5.1 at minimum). My receiver def supports 5.1. No blu ray player available.

I've tried running stuff in stereo and 5.1. No audio whatsoever. I've been googling this on and off for a few days. Lots of possible solutions, but it's the interweb and nothing's worked yet.

Edit: I will say that my wife finally suggested "throw this one at the guys on your poker forum, they'll figure this out." Her confidence in this group to sort out the problems of the world was encouraging!
