  • Anyway, I'm just curious if any board members here have won 1st. or 2nd. prize in these SNG's yet?.
    Below is my trip report.

I went to Woodbine and signed up for all the $220+10 & higher SNGs, but I was told that more people had signed up for the worst value SNG with only $990 in the prize pool so they would run that next. :arghh: Fortunately, the savvy supervisors decided to run both the $230 & $100. While I did not see any forumers as usual, I did see an EX-forumer - all_aces! all_aces of course was one of the four pros in this forum that helped newbies like philiivey and me improve.

TBC as I have to drive to Brampton then shark-free Fallsview...

    Some people have jobs.

And electronic poker is rigged, so I'll play my action at BCC, thanks.
  • I will be talking to Woodbine's equivalent of a compuease, so I'm wondering if anybody has feedback on the Woodbine tournaments or any other issue that would make you play more at Woodbine.
  • I called the poker room to learn more about the sit and go's and she said they run till noon. I told her that I will never make it b4 noon. She said it was to try and fill the room during the quiet time and if they have more interest they may run more.
  • What $ level satellites are they running during the week? Like to try one on Weds or Thurs. What time do they normally end by?

The great news is that you can all sign up now for the $75 + $5 SNGs with only 6% rake! "cheers: I'm also going to try to play on Wednesday (tomorrow) so when you arrive at Woodbine, sign up for the $75+$5, $220+$10 and/or $540+$20 SNGs but NOT the worst value $90+$10.

The $220+$10 SNG that I won and the last $230 SNG that I witnessed (while playing the cash game) both took only ~1.5 hours. Of course, YMMV.
  • How busy is woodbine for poker during the week and during the day?
  • When Woodbine lets an SNG run, a 2/5 game usually gets going as SNG players get eliminated then by the time the SNG ends, a 5/5 or another 2/5 table opens. On Monday when Woodbine did not run an SNG, :( I think there were only three tables running. In comparison, Casino Rama - who understands that tournaments attracts more players - had all of their 12 tables running by 1 PM!

The bad news is that Woodbine won't make improvements until at least March 2014. :arghh: We are stuck with an SNG only POSSIBLY running between 11 AM - noon, then players arguing about how to change the bad 70-30 payout. I won first place in a SNG on Monday, bubbled on Tuesday, then stopped by Woodbine almost every day, but have not been able to play a single SNG since! :rage: I may only try a couple more times before giving up on Woodbine for good and switching to Fallsview, which will have satellite SNGs starting this month. :wav:

  • At woodbine and only 1 guy on the sng list for $150, 200 and 230. Only game running is a 1-2 and starting a short handed 2-5. Appears very quiet. Is this the norm. I was hoping to play a sng but it's not looking good. Time to play a cash game I guess.
  • Room very busy now. 1 table 1-2, 3 table 2-5, 1 table 5-5 and one 230 tourney starting.
  • The silly noon deadline is frustrating, but it's good that more players have learnt to sign up for the $220+$10 with more chips and longer blinds instead of the worst-value $90+$10. For some strange reason, less players show up on a Saturday or Sunday morning for SNGs than on weekdays.

On a weekday morning last week, a $75+$5 SNG actually ran soon after the 8 AM opening! :o This was later followed by a forumer playing a $90+$10 and me playing the $220+$10, while the third forum reg at Woodbine was winning at the cash games. I cashed and we celebrated by eating at the Willows Noodle Bar.

While eating, a Chinese couple used a $10 coupon each. Out of curiosity, I asked which newspaper OLG Woodbine advertises in. He said that it was a Chinese newspaper that he carries in his store, and offered me a coupon. I declined, but he had a lot and ended up giving me several coupons. While I have never seen an OLG poker advertisement anywhere, it seems that they target the Chinese degenerate gambling population. He complained about constantly losing at the slots, so I told him that the forumer and I make money at Woodbine and that when he wants a break from the RIGGED one-armed bandits to take a free lesson at the Poker Lounge.

  • Just finished my session up $409. I was amazed to see the opening size raises at 1-2. It was raised to $25, if 3 players limped ahead of them. One guy was tighter then a nun and raised utg to $75 and complained he got no action..lol

It was fairly normal to have 6 to a flop. I was on the button with 25ss so I limped, bb made it $6 then utg made it $27, with 3 callers coming at me so I said wtf, call. I know its not the right call, however I put him on a high pp and wanted to potentially win a large pot or fold if I brick. Flop was 227 rainbow. Utg ships $193 all in and I snap it off to end up sitting with a stack of $590ish.

Is it me or do any of you who play 1-2 at woodbine find that these players can never value bet. Its either pot of check fold. Btw I am not complaining about this.
  • Went today to play a sng but we couldn't get enough for ppl for the 75+5 a 230 and a 150 started though i believe. It boggles my mind that so many ppl sign up for 1/2 table when tournaments are available. The rakes are not even comparable, the tourneys are such a better deal.

+1. There was a player from out-of-town who plays the SNGs at WSOP Rio, Venetian and online, and as I explained each feature of these electronic SNGs including the 4% rake, he kept expressing surprise that these are better than all the SNGs he has ever played. Unfortunately, Woodbine is ruining these excellent SNGs with the noon deadline.

Since I end up not having an SNG to play half the time that I make it to Woodbine by noon, :( I have learnt to have a plan B. If an SNG does run, a forumer and I sometimes spend for a meal there after playing the cash games with 10% rake. But if there is no SNG for me to play, I just leave Woodbine without spending a single dollar. :p

The Fallsview Poker Classic SNGs will probably start this month, so Woodbine may have even less SNG players (including me) due to the &^%$#@! noon deadline.
  • Ok.... I am in for a sit n go wed or thurs....... Whos in ??

    Minimum 200 or higher please.

What day works for you professionals ??
  • Maybe Thursday. With traffic I should make it by 11:59.

$200's a little steep for a SnG tho.
  • I am at woodbine for the first time today as my wife vetoed my Gatineau trip. This place is interesting.
  • I will likely be there early on Thursday morning but won't play the low rake SnG and will rather play the high rake cash games. Most days, the $220 + $10 SnG run and sometimes a lower buy-in. Never seen more than two run on a single day.
  • ...This place is interesting.
...and some interesting players... GG sir.

I would also love to play the $220+$10 or $540+$20 SNG again, but unfortunately can't make it on Thursday.

By the way, there have been no professional players here for a long time. I heard professional couch movers keep registering in this forum though....
  • Had a work cancellation yesterday so I dropped in for a few hours. Registered for all the SnGs up to $150 - there were only 1 or 2 ppl on the bigger lists - list for the $110 got up to 8 ppl, then stalled. I don't know if any ran earlier than 11am.

    Will try again today.

A minimum of six players is required, so did Woodbine at least run the $90+$10 with eight players? An SNG has rarely run before 11 AM, so basically Woodbine's SNG running times is only one hour out of 24 everyday. :(
  • The $230 is running today and apparently ran yesterday, right at noon.

I was here but didn't see them run it. A reg just told me that it has run every day this week.
  • That "reg" is mistaken. I was there Monday morning and Woodbine refused to run any SNG by noon, so I just got a free drink, deposited my free ballot, and left for plan B without spending a single ¢ at Woodbine. :rage: I don't know when I will go to Woodbine next to try to play a SNG that may or may not run. :-\

  • Sngs are so 2003
  • Two $220+$10 SNGs ran today, thanks to players pushing for the second one and Woodbine making it happen for a change. There have been only a couple of days when more than two SNGs ran. With WPT Montreal then the Fallsview SNGs starting soon, I may not be back at Woodbine for awhile.

By the way, many who have tried the Southern Fried Chicken on the second floor say that it is the best chicken. I like it better than KFC/Popeye's and it's 5 pieces for $11. I only go to the poker room in the various OLG racetracks and I had no idea Woodbine had so many busy floors :-[ including hosting The Pointer Sisters on the third floor last night. The Toy Mountain charity started today at Woodbine and will continue at Mohawk later.

Shifty, were you there last night ?? There was a bald gentleman with the name shifty.

If it was you....... Sorry about the 9-5 vs 9-4 hand....... Just dumb luck.

You left a little early as the indian brothers reloaded and blasted off alot of $$$$$ after you left.

    Nice playing with you.
  • Did anybody take advantage of playing SNGs at Woodbine since last week? There were round-the-clock SNGs available at WPT Montreal, but it was infested with the best SNG players from the GTA, plus pros. The last $1,100 SNG satellite I saw for the $10K High Roller Event had Woodbine's #1 SNG casher, Casino Rama's #1 tournament casher, plus Sorel "Cheating Scandals" Mizzi - who had just won the Premier League VII $125,000 SNGs last week at Playground - so I realized that it was better to avoid the 12% raked SNGs there and wait to return to the 4% raked SNGs at Woodbine.

A $75+$5 SNG ran yesterday at Woodbine, but when I phoned today, there are only four players signed up for the worst $90+10, so maybe I'll try tomorrow or Saturday instead.
  • was at Woodbine today, very quite. Only one 1*2 running when I got there and not enough players to get any satellites going.
