WHAAAAAAT?!?! They've moved the WSOP-C to Gatineau? They must have REALLY expanded that poker room. That was my stomping ground for my 4 years at Carleton (love Lac-Leamy, despite their terribly run poker room, it hold a special place in my heart).
Problem is, Lac Leamy (15 minute drive from Ottawa) only has 12 tables and 4-8 electronic tables. Unless they underwent massive renos, I can't see how they'll run WSOP-C events there...
The WSOP website still has the circuit in Montreal. Anyone have a link to something that explains that it's been moved to Gatineau? Perhaps the WSOP is just slow at updating their website...

I posted the possible move to Lac-Leamy a month ago, and it was confirmed via Twitter a couple of days ago. Both the WSOP and River Rock Casino are negligently slow in updating their websites even though the series is already next month! They must think poker players are degenerates who can just fly in to $1,000+ events with no planning.
Oh, wait.

Was the cash game rake as high as $11 for both the electronic and human-dealt tables?

I still don't see how Lac Leamy can host WSOP events unless they've undergone some major renos.
But even their casino website says they have 12 live tables and a tournament zone, which I've always taken as their electronic tables in the back. I can't see how they'll play circuit tourneys come November.
As for the rake, I never played 2-5, but the 1-2 rake was always $7+$1 for BBJ, yeah.
Lac-Leamy has a conference centre that can accommodate up to 1,100 people, so they will probably use part of that space just like what Fallsview, Rio and other casinos do for their big tournaments. Hopefully, they will keep the Wifi free during the WSOP-C.

Oh snap. Never been in their conference center. The hotel right there (Hilton) is also nice, and I'm sure plenty of players will just stay there.
This is nice to know though. I can now head to Ottawa to maybe play a tourney or two and get to visit everyone back there all at once. Plus it'll save me in hotel costs :P. Very happy it's being moved to Lac Leamy.
What are the family-friendly attractions in the Ottawa/Gatineau area during November 15-17 or 22-24? The Senate has a "possible" sitting day (lazy "Honourable" Senators!) on November 22, so I wouldn't mind watching one last time before the Senate gets abolished.
Do you know of any other family-friendly accommodations near the Lac-Leamy casino? Just like in Hawaii, my family would prefer staying in a two-bedroom condo/apartment if possible.
As for cash game alternatives for those who don't like getting raped $11-$15/hand, Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa has $5 max rake!

Not much in Gatineau, but honestly, the way that the area is set up, the casino is super close to downtown Ottawa. One of the bridges to Gatineau connects right to downtown Ottawa, where you have the market (great food, and beaver tails, yum), then there's Parliament, the museums (civilization and war), the Rideau Centre, the National Arts Centre, all sorts of stuff.
As for Rideau-Carleton, remember it's WAY out in like Greely, which is a good drive from the core of the city. The money on the weekends in Gatineau is so soft that my winrate there was still pretty solid, despite less hands per hour, a lower skill level and the elevated rake. If you're playing the circuit events on the weekend, it's probably worth checking the tables and finding the tables with the local Ottawa businessmen, pay the higher rake and reel in the fish
Updated the CPT and the side events. WPT/Playground has the best-value side events in Quebec with 11.8% rake for as little as $110 and $220 (still nowhere as good as Ontario's $75+$5, $220+$10 & other events).

The $285+0+$15 I won wasn't too bad with a prize pool of over $17,000 & only 5% rake.
true but still only 6 tables? it's nice to play larger fields now and then...it's a bit misleading when you reference ON events with low rake that are either electronic tables or 4 table tournaments

No, Ontario players like Gottaget, The_Game, Flopped_Nuts, Monoxide, Wetts1012, crazykoby, SteveKerr, pokerJAH, me, etc. may want to maximize our ROI so it would make sense to save some of our limited tournament bankroll for some local low-rake and +EV tournaments instead of just travelling to Quebec/BC and coming back without enough money left to play any more poker. If somebody cannot afford a buy-in of at least $580 (WSOP-C), it would make more sense to play a local $285+$15 event with 5% rake than to travel to play a $220-$365 event with rake up to 4 times higher! It was playing in these "small" but +EV tournaments that will enable me to play in a WSOP-C $1,125/$1,675 event and check it off my bucket list.
I will gladly reference other low-rake tournaments that you tell me about, but I have not yet found a single tournament in Quebec with rake < 10%! All of the live tournaments that I have cashed in this summer have had a rake of <= 9%.

That's why us Ontarians need to have some cashes in order to be bankrolled for the Fallsview Poker Classic $1K, $2.5K and/or $5K events in February 2014. Fallsview Casino may not like having fallen behind Playground and River Rock, so it may finally have multiple Day 1s for the $1K to try to beat the all-time record in Canada of 1,173 entries.
Updates:
- I have the WSOP-C Gatineau schedule so I'll create its own thread soon.
- Celebrity poker hostess Amanda Leatherman will be broadcasting live from the CPT Montreal Mega Stack, so this thread is not complete without me paying homage to my former avatar: >:D
Really hoping I can go to Lac Leamy for the WSOP Circuit events in november, always wanted a reason to go out to quebec! >:D
Generally I just stick to Ontario for the value of the tournies and this is still far away but its something Im excited about, only other big-ish tournament ive played in canada was fallsview $2500.
Holy Batman, it's almost $400/night for a family room at Hilton Lac-Leamy! Maybe I'll play at WPT Playground first and stay at a Montreal hotel for < $150/night.

Just like jontm, I don't do Ray Bitar, Howard Lederer or the scummy company that screwed our player community, including ripping off the players from the last event it sponsored in Montreal. But feel free to post about it and I look forward to your trip report about the best hotel to stay at, which poker room has the most reasonable cash game rake, and about you taking the event down.

- Store your laptop in the room safe.
- If it won't fit in the room safe, buy a laptop cable lock and lock your laptop to something in the room.
- If you can't do that, take your laptop with you when you leave the room.
