Albums That Stand the Test of Time

I still don't understand how these guys don't get the credit that Rush gets in the Canadian music scene:

    the answer is 3
  • Actually it's zero, as the guys in Triumph pretty much cannot stand to be in the same room together any more.
  • When I first read the post the Thunder 7 album cover was a red "X".

and I just KNOW I'm going to get bashed for this one, but...

Meatloaf Bat Out Of Hell the first one will always be a classic.

The second one wasn't too bad either, and I consider it a nice sequel to the first. The THIRD one though just sucked
  • Black Sabbath, Paranoid. Start to finish, great album!

I actually just started to re-listen to Rush again in the last couple years. Think their music is a lot different than Triumph, which is more vocal and less instrumental than Rush. Triumph has the odd guitar solo, but nothing like 2112 or A Farewell to Kings. Both great Canadian rock bands.

All early Sabbath is amazing....I was just discussing that with my mechanic a few weeks back. I mean, that music for way back in the early 1970's (and even the late 1960's) was so far ahead of it's time.....talk about groundbreaking stuff.
  • Beach Boys - Good Vibrations....

Guess I'm showing my age tho...

And wasn't the op talking about Canadian bands?

I still luved beach boy stuff..

then my vote HAS to be for...
    Buddywasisname

    :D
  • I don't necessarily think he was talking about Canadian bands. He just happened to mention two himself. I could be wrong though. He is sporting a lot of Canadian pride these last few days.
  • I've always liked Triumph better than Rush. Blinding Light Show is amazing.

The Guess Who is arguably the best Canadian band of all time.

    Arguably sure,

But by sales / fanbase /playrates, among other things Barenaked Ladies have to be the frontrunner.

(Note: NOT saying they're my favorite / most respected).

  • First album I ever bought, twice. Once on cassette in the 80s, then on CD in the 90s. I can't believe it's 26 years old :(

And the ONLY band to outsell the Beatles before the Fab Four split.

I was thinking that as well as I posted the first 2...I think I'm all Metallicad out since I used to listen to them at the gym all the time. However, that was the same album by them that I was considering.

    ANVIL!!

    This was a great documentary:

Anvil! The Story of Anvil - Official Trailer - YouTube

I have to admit that I never had heard one song from them despite growing up in the GTA in the 80s and listening mostly to rock music.

I didn't mean Canadian bands...I just like some Canadian music.

Oh fuck...I dated a psycho girl (well, "dated") in my first year at McGill and the ONLY album she ever listened to was Cat Out Of Hell.

Personally, I wouldn't say either of the above stands the test of time, but maybe it has to do a bit with how they tend to be overplayed.

    agreed re: Paranoid.

I'm not sure that guitar solos contribute to standing the test of time?

I said stand the test of time, not validates the Evolutionary Theory.

Damn, even I am getting tired of the old man jokes:(

For me, 1984 has lost it's appeal.

The only song by Van Halen that I really still enjoy is Unchained...again, maybe due to everything being overplayed.

Zeppelin holds up even with hearing a Zeppelin song every 40 minutes for eternity on Q107.

I rarely hear any Supertramp anymore but I would have to agree.
  • Van Halen II

Led Zeppelin's first six albums (have to include Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti)

    AC/DC Highway to Hell
AC/DC Back in Black (all remaining albums are just variations on this theme)

The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street

The Clash London Calling (and if that cunt Springsteen ever gets close enough I am going to punch him for that cover he did).

Bruce Springsteen Darkness on the Edge of Town.

Metallica Master of Puppets (although Ride the Lightning and Justice tie for a verrrry close second)

Iron Maiden Live After Death (one of the BEST live albums ever)

    Judas Priest British Steel

    Aerosmith Rocks

    The Police catalog

Guns 'n' Roses Appetite for Destruction
  • Supertramp Crime of the Century

    Pink Floyd The Final Cut

    - every song is top notch.
