  • Some WPT players refused to play any cash games because they knew the obscene rake is unbeatable in the long run, while a couple think they can beat it & that I should also move to Kahnawake to grind these $14 max cash games. :bs: Until Playground & other Kahnawake clubs reduce the rake, one option of minimizing your loss is to only play when you are hungry for breakfast, lunch or dinner, then stop playing as soon as you finish your expensive food.

A better option may be to get paid $10/hour at Snake's Poker! Hopefully, forumers who go to Montreal will post a trip report about Snake's.
Is the rake for the cash game still 10% max $14?
I'd consider going to Montreal if the rake wasn't so high.

    Lol @ move to Kahnawake.

That's the best cash game bonus I have ever seen...depending on the rake of course.
  • Wow 10/hr comp. LOL I'll definitely be taking a trip to MTL to play at some point this year as I've never played there. I'll definitely head to Snake's to give it a shot and get a TR up.

Unfortunately that won't happen until I know my school schedule this year haha. So someone will probably have one up before me.

I was at Carleton in Ottawa for 4 years (grinded in Gatineau, still pissed I never played at all in MTL) studying poli sci. Now I'm going to a private college in downtown Toronto called the College of Sports Media trying to get into sports broadcasting.
  • So, you're like the anti fed
  • Fed has an Aunt on here?
  • Fed has an Aunt on here?
Maybe AlwaysLearning416 should change his Woodstock screen name to "Auntie Fed". ;)

Along with "GTA Poker" & "The Kungpow Cowboy", the names will be on the waiting lists flashed on multiple screens & the names are called out on the PA system throughout the entire casino.

Also very interested in more info on the mega overlay sat... all i'm reading so far on the site is,

Win a seat in the $100 + $10 Full Tilt Poker Mega Overlay event (August 22nd – 25th). This event features three day ones, and in addition to the huge prize pool, Full Tilt Poker is adding 50 seats!

Details in the calendar section of their website...

100 + $10 Full Tilt Poker Mega Overlay Day 11:00 PM Players start with 15,000 in chips.
Optional $5 dealer add-on for an additional 5,000 in chips.
    Blinds increase every 30 minutes.
Max entrants: 400 + alternates per Day 1.

    Day 1a: Thursday August 22nd at 7:30pm
    Day 1b: Friday August 23rd at 7:30pm
    Day 1c: Saturday August 24th at 1:00pm
    Day 2: Sunday August 25th at 1:00PM

A player may play additional Day 1s even if he/she has survived a previous Day 1. If a player survives more than one Day 1, the player's smallest stack(s) (by chip count) will be removed from the tournament. Players may not re-enter during any Day 1 they have already played; they may only re-enter the tournament on a subsequent Day 1.

Payment is required to reserve your place.

    2-Day Event

50 Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival Main Event entries added to the prize pool!

...looks like regular dailies also happening at the same time so may be a good time give this a shot!

Anyone know if winning entries will be transferable?

I did see it posted somewhere that you can transfer to another name at the cage.
  • Rake for cash games was never 10% Max $14.

Rake for $1/$2 is 10% Max $8. Split pots are not raked.

Rake for $2/$5 is 5% Max $14. Split pots are not raked.

People vastly underestimate the subsidy that table games and slot machines provide for a poker room in a "normal" casino.
  • Seats are fully transferable, but a player's entry is in their name so the transfer will be facilitated by the cashiers to get player's ticket properly identified with them. Obv there's no charge for this.
  • The weekly satellites every Saturday night are very juicy. 5 seats guaranteed PLUS 5 seats added to the prize pool mean a minimum of 10 seats will be awarded for each satellite - which (again) are being held every Saturday night.

Finally - all of the structure sheets for every event are now 99% done in both French and English. I made the last significant edits this morning (our TD Martin Roy went back and made a good structure into a very good structure) so they should be posted later today or tomorrow.

[Sorry for the flurry of sequential posts - I was answering things as I read them rather than collecting for one big post]
  • I'll be the one to bring up food and drink...its fantastic and comped for cash game players. Then there are all sorts of promotions, high hands, bigger bad beats, valet...you have to remember its a club. Think of it as a commune or community. People were ultra impressed at the cleanliness, comfort, service. Everyone who plays at the club pitches in in the firm of a slightly higher rake. 99% think this is a fair arrangement. If the rake is the only thing to complain about, well then sounds like everything else is being done right.

How does your government casino compare dollar for dollar in regards to service and promos?

In after free food and drinks. Tournies sound great, but the tournies are obviously being paid for by the cash games.

High for sure.......how does it compare to the Bike and Commerce?

Not really other comparable Poker clubs out here, as poker is always subsidized by slots & table games everywhere I've played.

  • So, you are meaning that Playground is just poker (I've never been there).

Either way, you don't think they are making a killing in the cash games to the extent that they could have a more reasonable rape? The fact that they have a good rake structure in their tournaments likely means that they are using the tournaments to draw more players to the cash games and to promote the room to take moar rapes.

I highly doubt that they are just getting by with a $14 max rape. The smokescreen of free food is blurring your vision;)
  • Have you seen the waitresses? Blurred lines I know I want it

Honestly though its gotta be the best poker experience in Canada but I haven't played out west

Yes, but you're a tournament player.
  • Yes, Kahnawake is just poker. Greedy businessmen keep trying to propose full casinos that would probably ruin the Mohawk community, but it has been voted down so far.

Players with a clue prefer more beatable rake instead of being raped, but degenerate gamboolers are attracted by the "free" (actually very expensive!) food, bad beat jackpot rake, high hand rake. The WPT and other tournaments there also have higher than average rake (including the hidden 3% fee for staff gratuities).

It will take competition such as Snake's $10/hour promotion for the Kahnawake rooms to lower their hard-to-beat rake. I'm looking forward to trip reports about Snake's from the many players invading Kahnawake this year.

This is what is blurring Playground players who don't mind being raped. Is it worth $14 per pot?

  • For those looking for some more significant buy-ins than the very low limits surrounding this FTP main event might want to keep an eye on these Mega Stacks scheduled to overlap:

    More details soon I hear.
  • Great, I'm hoping to carpool to check out the Montreal poker scene, but not play anything with the douchy "FTP" name attached to it. And remind the CPT to properly disclose any extra fees unlike Playground.

  • Has CPT awarded the rings to the winners from a few of years ago yet? When Jarvis won the $5k HU Tournament?
  • I've heard from some players they were made right and understand efforts are being made to look after others, hence my improved attitude.
