If you're going to have debauchery with pkrfce9, lots of beer and Vaseline may help. ;)
And remember, what happens in Vegas...

Gl and have fun. Just got back from 4 days of debach. As a 1st timer there, my impression of the Rio was that it was a dive...smokey, old and dirty. Total sketch crowd. Venetian was nice. Well lit, airy. Would go back there.

Yes, Rio is a dump. Although the WSOP takes place in the convention centre which is respectable.

Welcome back to the forum Buddy....you were surely missed :) Not too late to book your trip!
  • Like PokerAH said, we'll be down there June 8-12. I haven't been there in many many years, so I'm looking for advice from any regulars.

We have rooms at TI and will look to keep our play around the main strip area. I'm looking to play in a couple low-stakes tournaments and will fill the rest of my time with some 1/2, 1/3 or 2/5 nl games depending on how long the bankroll holds up.

Here are some of the tourneys I'm considering:
    • on the 8th at 16:00 at Venetian is $400 survivor. plays down to final 10% then each gets $3400 -> no tax! :) 12k starting stack and 30 minute levels. single day tourney.
    • on the 9th at 16:00 at Venetian is $300 bounty. 100 bounty for each knockout. 12k starting stack and 30 minute levels. single day tourney
    • on the 9th at noon at Caesars is $130 NL. Looks like 30 minute levels but that is all I see. They have these at noon a couple of days we are there.
    • on the 11th at 16:00 also at Venetian is $250 bounty with $25 bounty. 10k starting stack and 30 min levels
I'll sell up to 40% of my action on these if anyone is interested. PM me or email me on gmail - you can easily guess the address. I'll post which ones I decide to play in before I play them so it is all on the up and up.

Any recommendations on nearby rooms for good cash games? Other low stakes tourneys I should look at during that time period.

I'm thinking about doing the skyjump while I'm there. Anyone try that yet?

Why not post an open BAP thread with the total buyin you anticipate to spend on the various tournaments? A few players have done this and adjusted it as the trip progressed. You can update the BAP thread depending on which tournaments you play and refund any residual.
  • Hey Greg,

Nice to see your still around, keep us posted on how things are going down there. I'll be in Vegas from the 12th to 19th. Leave some easy money for me.

These are big prize pool tourneys.....they play OK until just before the money, but it soon turns into shove fests with avg stack usually being much < 10bb's close to the last few tables.....make sure you bring your superturbo shovecharts imo.

    All depends what you're after.

Caesars tourneys are decent during this time, structure not the best.

You may also consider Aria, Binions, Wynn....as I think they all have a tourney series going.

Here's a spreadsheet someone on 4 does up with all the tourneys and times if you want more options.

    Good luck
  • Day 1 (Pictures to follow)

We arrived around 11:30 Vegas time and after dropping off some newfy guy from the plane at PH, we headed to the Venetian. We played about 1 hour and pkrfce ended up $110 and I was up $80. Greg signed up for the $400 survivor tournament at the Palazzo and I went back to grinding 2/5. Ended up dumping my stack when I commited myself with a nut flush draw on a paired board. Hit my flush but other guy turned quads. Nice hand.

Won a few hundred back with 75c on a 77K board. Then get back into positive with 45c on A3102 board.. I raise to $60, I get reraised to $175. I just call and river is a 6. Guy bets $365 into me and I make it $800. He eventually folds two pairs. +$400 for session.

Greg is currently down to final 15 in survivor tournament. Top 9 get $3,400..

Day 1 chipstack at Venetian (too bad there mainly mine :) )
  • Nice comeback. Good TR. looking forward to hearing more.
  • Don't bash the newfs - we WILL hunt you down! ;)
  • Kirk the Newf was cool. We had some good laughs with him. We got him started out in Vegas on the right foot with a free cab ride to his hotel. It sounded like he was going to an awesome pool party today. We were waiting for invitations but for some reason, it was not in the cards.

I busted out of the Survivor tournament just a couple spots short of the money. Very frustrating. Jim had suggested avoiding tournaments on your first day down here and he was right. I felt so tired by the end of that one I probably was not playing my best.

Jimmy didn't mention we spotted Doyle at the Venetian playing in the open area. I noticed Metzler with him and I guess a couple other high rollers.

Woke up very early this morning. Had a great workout and brunch at the hotel. Then we hit Belagio. Now there's a casino! I played 'ok' there. Up $500 on a 1/3 table after a few hours. The players there are pretty atrocious! I think Jimmy was down a bit on the 2/5 but hit a nice spin on the slots to bring things back.

I spotted David Benjamine playing open faced chinese for $100 a point. He hit a miracle card on the last card to avoid fouling and grabbed a couple grand each off some young kids he was playing against.

    Now off to the Rio.
  • Day 2 was pretty uneventful. Started off the morning at Bellagio playing 2/5. Played about 5 hours and ended down about $200. Only hand that comes to mind is when I reraise with aces to $105 and single player calls with 78off. I bet $200 on flop and guy calls as he hit his 8. He only has $150 behind and so I push on turn and of course its another 8...nice buddy...he proceeds to drop about $2k to the table.

Greg crushes the 1/3 game and we head to the Rio for the evening. Greg is sporting his new Open Face Chinese Poker tshirt. I cant keep up with the orders :) There are about 5 open face tables going. Had QQ run into KK once so pretty well even on the trip for poker but up about 150 on my morning slot sessions.
  • pokerJAH wrote: »

    Dear Diary,
OK, I'll bite. How did pkrfce9 get an Open Face Chinese Poker t-shirt?
And when will the debauchery start with live streaming video?? ;)
  • Up about $250-300 at Rio last night. The room is inspiring with its 200+ cash tables but my table was very poorly run and had lots of players who did not have a clue what they were doing.

Venetian was pretty quiet this morning but very generous. +900 after about 4 hours of 1/2. So many fun memories. Like getting cards thrown at me after felting 'Howard Hughes' for $450 with set over set AAA > KKK. Or busting a guy on the river with T2 and shouting 'I did it for you, Doyle'. (Doyle was in the room.) Good times.

Nice free brunch back at TI and now I'm taking a break while Jimmy tries his luck at the 1/3 downstairs. This place is a dump for poker.

I think we will hit Bellagio this afternoon.

We will probably have a couple TI '2 for 1' lunch/dinner buffet coupons left over if anyone down here is interested.

I know the owner of the company. Nice guy. Says he is a good poker player, too.
  • I had an awesome trip report of today ready to post but it disappeared. Dammit!

Ended up dead even at Bellagio 1/3 after a few hours. Was up a couple hundred after my AA held up but then the table changed, I went card dead, friends dropped in from out of town, I don't know.

Came back to find Jimmy, aka the Bus Driver, taking the kids to school. He really showed them how to play 83o blind! I had to leave the table because I couldn't keep a straight face.

He came over later and sat at my Venetian 1/2 table and put it almost completely on tilt. I've never seen anyone drive half the people off the table but he did it. It was fun but frustrating. I ended up down about 150 on that session.

Did I mention Johnny Chan was sitting at the table next to us? That's right Johnny Fuckin Chan! He is such a good sport. I convinced him to sit at our table and play a couple of hands, where we completely dominated him. Photos to follow. The ones from the table will be hand-drawn sketches from my memory.

Too bad we were both down that session. We were offered BOTH hookers and blow on our lengthy walk back from Venetian to TI. And she looked pretty hot to me.

I hope Howard Hughes doesn't throw cards as fast as Chris Ferguson's 78 mph! Did you call for Security to tackle the guy to the ground and handcuff him like they did at Fallsview with a drunk donk?

Does that nice owner and cash game shark have an extra OFC shirt for the Deep Stack tourney on Thursday? I forgot to asthma wife to laundry my 31 PartyPoker shirts.
  • Much shenanigans today. Was up early at Venetian after I nearly doubled with AA vs KK. Then I got outplayed on several hands against a guy who was probably a better player and also incredibly lucky with flush over flush, TPTK vs 2pr, TPTK vs set. It was frustrating and I left after I was down 300.

Jimmy aka 'Hit & Run & Go Shoot Guns' put on a real clinic for us. He was up about 500 at Bellagio 1/2. On the way out, he gave a beggar on the bridge a couple bucks for kharma.

A little later, we go downstairs to play the 1/3 game at TI, while we are waiting for our ride to go to the gun range. I get KK about 5-10 hands in on the button and re-raise a woman from MP who I thought knew what she was doing. She called, then lead out on a Q-high board. I thought she might have AQ, QJ, AA or QQ but I figured I would just push for an extra 150 and let the chips fall where they may. She called with AJ, hit her jack and still lost the hand. I'm still trying to figure that one out. She thought her A was good? She thought she had 2 overs? The ride was coming soon so I cashed out for 200+ profit. I was bugging Jimmy to get up from the table but he was down a bit and he said he'd play one last hand and raised blind to 18 while I'm at the cashier. As I'm walking back to the table, he comes running over to say he got re-raised and then shoved on the guy, who called. Of course the guy turns over QQ and Jimmy turns over AA and wins for a nice 200+ profit. He promptly grabbed his chips and cashed out. The guys were a bit pissed with us leaving with their money but I say fuck em.

Shooting machine guns and magnums was a hoot!

We had a look at Caesars but it was pretty dead so Jimmy wanted to walk over to Bellagio. First he had to stop at the Brahma temple and light an incense stick for good kharma. That was kinda cool. We go to Bellagio and he gets seated at the 2/5 instantly by the 'window' and I'm on the 1/2 list. I decide to walk over to the other other side of the window to wait until I'm called so I can watch his game. By the time I get over there, he already has 500 in the middle, all cash because the chip runner hasn't come over yet to get chips for him. Apparently it was being folded around to him and the Asian guy next to him asked him about chopping and Jimmy told him he never chopped. So the guy raised him 30 from SB and Jimmy insta-shoves for 500 and the guy instantly calls with QQ. Of course Jimmy turns over KK and wins! He promptly says 'seat open' and grabs a chip tray to cash out. Apparently he didn't like that I had to wait for a table and he wanted to go get some dinner anyway.

Jimmy bought dinner at PF Changs. Very good food. The girls were dancing by the table games so we got in a good gawk before we left.
  • Worse shenanigans tonight. Jimmy managed to work the table up into a frenzy and the dealer totally lost control of the table with the inexperienced guys acting out of turn, showing their cards with people left to act, talking about the hand while it was in play, etc. I couldn't watch any longer and I had to leave up only 75.

    gg vegas.
  • Loving the updates. Thanks.

Think, fun 1/2 player is more appropriate. Little more tame shooting 5/10 with Huck Seed. Its all about table image buddy!

Never change, Jimmy. I will be telling that story in my upcoming book. I'm STILL in awe.
