PCA 2013 January 5 to 14

Just booked January 9th to 13th. I know Blackmagicz is heading down, anyone else? Was there in 2011 and it was a great week of poker. Find it a lot more relaxing than Vegas.

OFC on the plane....going to lose my bankroll before we land lol
  • What event(s) is everyone playing? Might take a stab at a $1k event if cash games are nice to me.

I felt sorry for steve so I haven't played ofc in over a week. Going to be a crazy degen flight
  • Oh don't worry we battle every night for 2hrs+....only 2.00 a pt though....
  • We talked about going this year..(like we seem to do every year)...and ended up picking up a water hauling contract until Mar. instead. Yay for putting on tire chains every day for 4 months..

Look on the bright side, at least your guaranteed to make money this way. :D
  • Might make this an annual trip. Be my fifth trip to Nassau, only second PCA. I recall talk of a huge casino development near Cable beach. Think they would have poker all year round now, instead of two weeks. a year. Vegas is so depressing in the winter months.
  • Vegas is great in the winter when WSOPC and DSE is going on.

Not to hot and not to cold

Don't get me wrong, its a step up from Seneca and Atlantic City. Nice to be steps from the beach and the ocean. Atlantis is insane, as a resort. Poker is just a bonus.

We are supposed to make money at this game?

    #doingitwrong

I used to really enjoy my winters, as it was slow season for us, got to play lots of cards, do family/dive trips..etc..but, these last couple years haven't worked out that way...time to hire maybe..

One of these times we will make it :)

+1 definitely fun to go between jan-mar . One of my first times going to vegas years ago was during this time. Wear long sleeves in the evening and its nice.

Leave the judgement until you get back from the PCA..as they say, "Its better in the Bahamas" :)

From a profitability side I believe I am most likely -ev in bahamas when comparing vegas at the same time.

Now you are due to take down a tournament :)
  • Any BAPs coming? What do you think are the best options for low buy-in tournaments?

Nice the 1/2 is now $400 max and 2/5 is $1k max.
  • Probably play cash and do the 300.00 turbos in the evening. Don't feel like punting 2k-5k every night in tournies

Tournament 19 looks like a decent structure. Wonder if the sat seats can be sold? Assume they will have sats to the bigger events.

Cash doesn't get going until noon every day.
  • Yeah I downloaded the google calendar for the pca. I also plan to be playing a whole lot of open face chinese when I am down there.

But goes until 4am so you won't be up until noon. And if you are that's the point of the lazy river

Same boat. Thought about taking the wife and kids and making a family holiday out of it, but picked up a big commercial job that'll eat up the first 2 weeks in Jan on me.

    Maybe next yr.

GL to all who make the trip!
  • kind of hard to find on the site, cash game buy-in details:

PCA Tournament Structure - Cash Games

Not sure if they will run much 5/10 during the day time? Don't like the $100 min for the 2/5, may attract a lot of small stacks. Same rake for 2/5 and 5/10 anyways.
  • will try to post updates next week from Atlantis. Although :) GTA :) hasn't been around lately to break my balls on slaughtered cash game hands.
  • Looking forward to meeting some of you at the PCA. I'm registered for Day 1A of the Main Event.
  • Five Canadians started in todays $100k highroller event including Sir Watts. GL to him.

I hear cash is super soft there..gl
  • Day 1

As poker doesn't start up for a couple hours, taking advantage of the free wifi in the Pokerstars player lounge (Duhamel is playing foosball) First off, congrats. to Betrthanphil for taking down the $2k turbo last night for $75k! Actyper is on to Day 3 of the main event pretty close to cashing.

I got to the poker room around 2:30 and was lucky as the first 2/5 table was just getting started. A couple hands in and a young american guy raises to $35 and I call w JJ. Flop comes QJ10. He bets out $65 and I raise to $165. He pushes for another $250. I don't think he hit top set so I call and he proudly shows AK. I say nice hand and spike a Q on the river. He has a hissy fit. Never met such a suck at the poker table. He continues to donk off a couple grand and have a meltdown w every lost pot. He is down to about $300 in chips and asks for another $1k. When they bring his chips I remind him the table max is $1k. Bad move Jim! He decides to take his rage out on me and the dealer tells him to watxh the language. I just laugh it off. Little later I donk off $300 with flop/turn bets that won't get some old guy off top pair. I flop top set a little later and milk a player for about $300 as he chases a draw. Play for about three hours and end the session up $470.

Go back to my hotel to check in and find out I have a suite to myself. Did they f up my reservation? Full kitchen and living room, with patio overlooking the water. Grab a quick dinner and head back to the poker room. Play a few hands of 1/2 before my 2/5 seat comes up. Only memorable hand is when a tight player raises to $35 and I call with 67off. Three to the A45 flop. Original raiser makes it $30?? We both call and the turn is my bridge card, 8. I check hoping he will continue to bet but its checked around. River is a K and early position player bets $85 and I raise to $225. Original raiser folds and other calls and mucks when I show.

To my surprize, guess who sits down beside me, my friend from the afternoon session. i ask him if he is going to play nice, and he says something I couldn't understand. I leave it at that. Later on he raises to $45 and I call with 88. Flop comes K8x and he bets out $80. I just call and the turn is a 3. He checks to me and I bet $100 and he folds, gets up and he moves to a 5/10 table. What an idiot! Leave around 11pm as I plan to play the $1k tomorrow and want an early night. + $490. Day 1 +$960.

Blackmagicz was crushing the 2/5 last night, think his stack was over $3k.
  • Day 2 Highlights

Donked off my stack at 2/5 with flopped straight over flopped flush, made it to level 5 in $1k, started off playing 5/10, which turned into a 10/25 table. Grinded $1k stack up to $3,750. Michael Phelps was donking at the 1/2. Day 2 + $2,250.
  • pokerJAH....thanks for the perspective and first hand accounts. Read that Phelps bubbled the main and was railing Hellmuth in a side event.
