Comp, u nailed it. I have never been a real savvy computer person but I just researched the shit out of it for weeks. Now I know what I'm doing and feel semi comfortable working inside a comp. valuable information IMO
And it has run great since, except once last night everything locked up on me while ten tables were going! I couldn't even get control alt delete to work. Thank god it reboots in like six seconds jajaja I am happy with how well it has run so far though. Just hope this was a one time thing.
What was your final configuration and price? I'm thinking of setting a budget of ~$1,300 (excluding monitor), then getting a quote on building the desktop for me.
- Intel i5 Quad-core is good enough for my poker needs.
- SSD at least 180 GB for my ~50 GB poker database.
- 500 GB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM HD
- 8 GB 1600 RAM
- 2 SATA3 ports, Bluetooth, USB 3.0
- Windows 7 Home
- I'll be buying the Dell U3011 monitor next time it goes on sale so I need a graphics card with DisplayPort or DVI outputs to get the maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 (with my 42" HDTV as my 2nd monitor).
IT responded with the below message. He went to another site.
Here is an alternative for your configuration. It is still built on ASUS and has the same performance or better. I noticed that you selected a micoATX system board so you do not need a full tower case, just a mid-tower that I have added for comparison. In my selection I am using a full ATX size system board so will use the full tower case. My recommendations for the system will be in this color.

I will check the final price and get back to you. $1,300 seems reasonable for what you want I think. I think my total bill was around $1,500 though.
I would say that if I could change one thing I would get a bigger SSD and smaller and different HDD. The HDD I bought tends to "fall asleep" often and takes a few seconds to wake up, which is annoying in comparison to how fast everything else is with SSD.
I still have 15GB or something left on the SSD, but its getting less and less everyday.... And poker database ain't getting any smaller!
I still have my crappy old monitors, and havent looked into the upgrade details yet, so I cannot give advice on that side of things.
Also, imo you don't need to get a quote on someone else building it. I had ZERO computer knowledge going into this build and still I am no compuease. However I put it all together no problem, first try and everything worked great. Honestly it's pretty easy, and you will be better off in the future if you learn this stuff now. For instance, I had been having some issues lately with the mouse and keyboard losing communication with the computer during full grind mode. Did some looking around and figured out my usb3 driver was needing an update. Did that, and no more headaches. Before I built my comp, I didnt know what a driver was! haha.
Did you buy an extra cooler for the 3770K or overclock it? I am planning to buy the ideal/optimal specifications that PokerTracker 4 recommends, i.e., i7, 12 GB+ fast RAM with low CAS numbers, SSD with fast random access and Windows 7/8 64 Bit. The Dell U3011 is on sale for $1,099 today, but I'm thinking of waiting for it to go below $975, maybe by Black Friday.
I used to build PCs when I worked for IBM, but I've always enjoyed the software/application side a lot more. I'd rather pay somebody to do the building/research/troubleshooting, while I use that time grinding to pay for the system.

No extra cooler and not overclocked yet either .... Maybe one day I will research that a bit more
Finally pulled the trigger on Cyber Monday to buy my next poker system.
27" monitor, 2560 x 1440 resolution. I will multi-table on two big screens, with this one on portrait mode so it can fit on the same table as my 42" HDTV.
Finally pulled the trigger on Cyber Monday to buy my next poker system. NCIX Vista PC Black Friday Edition[/URL] with 240 GB SSD.
lol, You ordered a "Vista" machine?
Seriously though isn't that a little overkill for poker? Now if you are going to also play WOW, etc then carry on.. Will be interested in your honest thoughts on Windows 8 though... Pretty negative reviews..
The Black Friday price for the Vesta gaming bundle was lower than the prices I had been getting for poker-only configurations. I downgraded the graphics card from a $310 ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB to an ASUS Radeon HD 7770 1GB, and used the money to upgrade to a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240 GB SSD.
I paid an extra $2 to replace the Windows 8 default with 7 coz I don't like going Metro. I wouldn't want to play "touch" poker with the 42" and 27" screens.

lol, just kidding... Nice setup, bet it gives you great satisfaction to accomplish it right..? Good job!

What sort of video do you want?
Most decent video cards now support at least 2 monitors, you don't need 2 cards..
