Western Fair has excellent deep stack tournaments every month with only 4% rake, including June 30. I played my first OLG Slots tournament there and cashed. You will eventually need to have your ID replaced, so you may as well do it sooner to play low-rake poker instead of slots.
I just found out that this place is only an hour drive from my place. I plan on checking out in the near future.
Please post if any tournaments run at Western Fair (scheduled on Saturdays & Sundays). I plan to make the drive along Highways 403 then 401 for the Deep Stack on June 30.

I don't plan on playing anything until after my daughter visits, so not until mid July or early August.
With high-value promotions such as the $5,000 Tournament of Champions :cool2: and Poker Player VIP Appreciation Nights, it was a no-brainer for me to play at Georgian Downs. If enough players request Woodbine to start a tournament, I may play there more.
You can't register over the phone, but it's a good idea to phone ahead (1-866-299-7568) to express your interest in the scheduled MTT. For example, the more people phone after 6 PM this Thursday for the $220+$10 Deep Stack, the better chance it will run. While Western Fair was willing to run a Deep Stack MTT with a minimum of 3 players, Georgian Downs wants at least six players to run any tournament.
Avoid the "SNG" format with only 5K chips & 2 places paid. The $75+$5 MTT with 8K chips & only 6% rake is better than the $90+$10 MTT with 10% rake.
That's correct. Unless at least six players phone ahead on Thursday for the 15,000-chip Deep Stack with only 4% rake, the poker host may choose not to run that specific tournament. The poker room extension sometimes goes to an authomatic message instead of a live person, so you may have to ask the operator to transfer your call to a poker host.
Roll call: anybody else playing tonight's Deep Stack at ~7:30 PM? I plan to phone Georgian Downs at 6 PM just before leaving.
Thought about it and I'm going. I will be there 6:30ish. Hopefully they have more than 1 lane open on the 400 tonight, as it's paving season once again...
With hands being dealt at 50-90 hands/hour, the first $220+$10 electronic Deep Stack I played (Western Fair) took a reasonable ~3.5 hours, as the final two at heads-up with very deep stacks quickly made a deal.
What time did it finish last time you went? I'm 20 min away but do have work to get up to in the early am.
Try to phone ahead at 6 PM for the Deep Stack or at least sign up specifically for it when you come in so the host doesn't try to replace it with a SNG crapshoot with only 2 payouts.
Thought about it and I'm going. I will be there 6:30ish. Hopefully they have more than 1 lane open on the 400 tonight, as it's paving season once again...
Arrived just before 6 and there was no attendant and no one on the list to play the Deep Stack tournament scheduled for today. While waiting I signed up for the poker option on the rewards card, loaded it with money and sat at a slot machine outside the poker room.
6:30 someone appears at the front desk of the "poker room". She tells me that she doubts the tournament will happen because no one has expressed interest. I decide to wait and see.
7:00 there is still no one on the list to play a cash game or the tournament and so I take the money I deposited off the card and head home.
Bad beat=taking a net loss of -$10 in gas money and not even getting to play poker/check out the virtual tables.
Debated on wether to stay in and crush souls online (weekly forum game) or go hit up some liveaments. The latter prevailed.
The trny seemed like too good of value to pass up, and the fact that it isn't run every day I guess makes if more important.
I called earlier in the day to see if this game actually ran, how many runners on avg (capped at 20, only 2 tables) and what time it has finished up at in the past. From what I gathered this bi-weekly trny of $140+10 does in fact run on schedule and is usually close to, if not full. They do have daily sng's ranging from $50-90, the lady told me they almost never run.
I was expecting the majority of players to be very competent. Why I don't know, seeing as how I've never played this. To my surprise, it was almost the opposite. The field was considerably weak, and mostly friendly which made it very fun to play.
In this particular event I believe there were 16 initial entries with re-entry or late reg allowed for 2 levels. I'm pretty sure a couple ppl rebought. Great format w/ 15k starting stacks and 20 min levels and the speed of electronic getting a great deal of hands in per hr.
They also have several self serve drink stations on the gaming floor (BF Approved!) which I took advantage of prob a dozen times cuz im too much of a nit to tip $1.
Onto poker, despite losing 50% of my stack very early on and not really recovering, I played a 8-12 bb stack for several hours, somehow managing not to go bust and stay patient. In a matter of approx a blind level I went from just under 6k to over 40 maybe 50k and was 2nd in chips.
We played 5 handed for what seemed like ever (paying top 3, 1200, 7ish, 475) next thing the bubble burst, 1st-3rd stacks were well defined with me being 3rd, the only deal that was struck up was $600 for third, 8 or 9 for 2nd etc etc, I declined as I'm 1 double up away from being chip leader and fealt I had an edge and im giving up way to much to only gain another $125.
I promptly busted in 3rd( which i thought I had no business being in anyway) and was quickly reminded that I should have taken the $600. Lol I shook hands and went for the cage for the $475, by the time I cashed up I noticed they were also done, not sure if by a deal or played it out.
Congrats on cashing in this excellent-value tournament with even lower fees than the online tourneys I have been grinding this week. I finally listened to sn1perb0y and set a 30-day online challenge for myself, so I had to sacrifice this and a bunch of other live tourneys for the next month.
Was it unlimited rebuys at $140 for the first two levels? It's incorrectly posted on the OLGPoker.com website as $150+$10, and this tourney is not even included in Georgian's Rules and Regulations document.

Agreed.
Would play again.
I'll see you & philliivey there after I have achieved my online goals.

They allowed rebuys, or re-entries, not sure which one, for 40 mins (2 levels) I would assume it would be unlimited.
And it IS listed on their site as a $150+10, but was actually $140+10, I even doubled asked this at the cage to confirm.
And and far as seeing you and philivey there, the last thing this 2 table max trny needs is a couple card sharks to clean up and kill my action . Joking aside, if you do come to future events let me know, we can meet up before hand and I'll buy you a coke!

Just curious-was this announced to all the players before the tournament started?
Does anyone know if all the electronic tournaments are being run as rebuys or re-entries? Wish they would just post this info properly on olg poker So tilting.

It was announced to everyone, and I believe the only reason they chose to do this was because it wasnt a sell out. Had they filled up the 20 seats, it likely would have ran as a normal freezeout. She mentioned late reg and/or re-entries for 40 mins.
I've been avoiding these tournies hoping the advertising/rules & regs are changed to reflect the possibility of a rebuy or re-entry. I won't hold my breath. lol
I'm not even sure its all about the rake since they don't allow alternates in a sold out tourney. Just strange & tilting imo
Anyone headed there tonight for their $140+10? Their calendar has been blank for a while now, I stopped looking at upcoming events, because there weren't any. No idea who makes the schedule, but thanks to BF for pointing out a game tonight in another thread that I caught.

It's listed on their website as a $150 + 10, 20 min levels, with a 15k starting stack (300bb).
Seems like a great value trny. Surprisingly, living only a couple minutes away, I have yet to know about, or play in any of their trnys.
No but I was going to ask blondefish on what the latest scoop is at Georgian Downs, I would be up for a lower sng or mtt like $50 or $75 sng or mtt.
